Amartey - 6 - Shored things up, quite like the idea of him coming off the bench like that and sitting infront of the back 4 with Ndidi and Drinkwater in front. Gray - 6 - Never really got the ball. Great break. We need to look after him. Chilwell - N/A - Surprised they made that sub and not Leo/Slim for Vardy. Shakey - 8 - Clearly rallied the troops, had us playing in Liverpool's faces. He's clearly loved at the club. Give it to him till the end of the season then reassess. Agree with literally everything, no need to make my own post! norwichfox Posted 28 February 2017 Posted 28 February 2017 Schmeichel 7 - Steady game, cuople of good saves great to see his goal celebrations and cheerliding the fans Simpson 8 - Solid performance nulified the Liverpool attack from their left. Along with Huth, Morgan and Fuch's filled the gap that we've been leaving between attack and defence allowing the midfield to be much more creative in getting a supply to Vardy and Okazaki. Huth 7 - Solid performance, thankful that it wasn't Chilwell standing where he was for 1 shot stopping block, Chilwell would have turned away. Unlucky not to be on the scoresheet. Morgan 7 - Played a busy game, his best of the season was dreading him leaking a goal or two, totally unfounded on my part. Fuchs 9 - Played one of his best games for the City imo, could have scored, classy assist for Vard's second. Albrighton 8 - Played well and put some accurate crosses in, we need him playing at this level for the next half dozen games. Ndidi 9.5 - Can't say enough good things about his performance last night, MOM for me, maybe the January transfer window was a great success after all. Drinkwater 8 - Much, much better than of late, this is the guy that was playing for us last season, the imposter has left the building. and a cracking goal to add to his collection, maybe could have had another. Mahrez 6.5 - Got involved much more than of late, I was calling for him to be subbed much earlier....and then he produced that pass for Fuch's assist....glad he wasn't subbed when I wanted it. His presence early on was a help as he was drawing at least 2 defenders to deal with him. We know he can do better and looked in parts as though he's getting there. May have missed his buddy Slimani. Vardy 9 - Difficult not to choose him as my man of the match, (Wilf just edged it) put a tremendous amount of work in (never thought I'd be able to saty that again. Superbly first goal and finished off his second very nicely. He needs to take some lessons from a ventriloquist in the art of not moving lips when you're saying something or wear a big plaster over his mouth though, he could so easily have got sent off for telling the linesman to "Fcuk off" I'm no lipreader, but it was very plain to see what he said. That could have completely changed the complexion of the game. Okazaki 7 - Something was wrong....it took him a long tiome to fall over. Gutsty performance from him drawing defenders that helped tremendously towards what Vardy was achieving. I was worried that he hurt himself when going for a chance, loohed as though he'd injured his knee. Gray (sub) 6 - Not his best performance, but steady enough to warrant his place. He looked to have run out of ideas when he went on a very promising run, just needed to try and hold the ball up for a short while instead of running straight into a defender. Amartey (sub) 6 - Did OK for the time he was helped keep the ship reasonably steady. Chilwell (sub) 6 - Showed some cool play to break a Liverpool attack up, did OK for the time he was on Shakespeare 9 - Got just about everything right. Another couple of performances from the team like this under his belt and he's a very serious contender for the permanent manager's position. We seem to have lost the manager go or stay option on the survey...for me it would be stay. Thanks for the recent past Mr Ranieri, I really hope you watched the game last night and enjoye seeing how it could have been all season long. I found it a little disconcerting that the team seemed to lose concentration after the fans 65th minute tribute, he did at least deserve that much.

Particularly good first half Huth 7 Towering performance Wes 7 As above Fuchs 8 Back to the Fuchs of last season. Great assist and some crunching tackles. Superb display Albrighton 8 Superb assist. Worked so hard. Probably his best game of the season Drinkwater 7 Much better from Danny. More positive, more tenacious and a great goal Ndidi 9 Sometimes caught in possession but he's young and will learn. Loads of interceptions, real quality in the air and I think he will get better and better Mahrez 6 Fairly quiet but involved in the goal and also laid on what should have been our fourth for Drinkwater with sublime skill Okazaki 8 Been critical of him in the past but he was terrific. A total pest to Liverpool all game Vardy 9 MOTM. Ran himself into the ground and took his goals (especially the first) very well. Pray that he can continue this now for the remainder of the season Gray (again) did very well when he came on. Amartey barely touched the ball and it was the obvious sub but it worked Shakey 10 Got us back to a higher press, more intensity and was brave in his team selection- his loyalty was rewarded by the players.

Didn't know he had that in the locker A few 9s as you can see but the edge goes to the full backs. Will say Fuchs as he put a vital interception in at 3-1 and crossed for Vardy. Accomplished performance with confidence sky rocketing after weeks of poor displays. Neville even said last night it was like watching Maldini. Didn't put a foot wrong. I'd give Shakey another game before seeing if he can lead us untill the end of the season. Different sort of game at the weekend as Hull are riding a wave of momentum at the minute. Win this and I'm all of a sudden confident we can survive. Defeat and last night is obsolete. Great performance LCFC!

Loved how stepped up from his line late in the game and intercepted a pass setting us off again. Could've maybe done a bit more for their goal, but was in general an excellent insurance policy for Morgan, just like in the 'old' days of last season. Morgan - 8 - Was a rock. Looked like he knew he had been dreadful for weeks and had that steely look about him which he carried all of last season. Very assured in his actions, didn't slide in unnecessarily. Firminwho? Mahrez - 6 - Gets a six, but in the context of nearly every player improving by a couple of marks, Riyad was the only one that didn't take huge strides last night. That said, he still put in a shift and made contributions, notably for the third goal and setting up Drinkwater's chance of a second goal. Besides that, he was largely disappointing, making several poor forward passes and struggling to beat his man. Also didn't bust a gut to get into the box often enough. Looked physically overmatched, but let's hope he will improve as the season continues. I have lots of belief in him yet. Ndidi - 9 - I've already contributed to the Ndidi threat. He was a monster for 75 minutes until he visibly started tiring. Such tenacity that we haven't seen since Kanté and skill to boot. He's got all the makings of a top combative midfielder who will hopefully further cement his spot next to Drinky. Drinkwater - 7 - Before his goal I thought Drinky was struggling along with Mahrez. Off the pace and misplaced passes. But boy did that change after his goal! And what an absolute corker that was. I don't think we'll see a sweeter, technically more difficult strike all season and I could watch it over and over on repeat. Was far more feisty, involved and sharp after that and played his part in shutting down Liverpool as well as driving us forward. Albrighton - 9 - He ran and ran and ran. He was simply everywhere, literally. And then he had the quality and efficacy that we so often criticise as his weakness. Directly invovled in all three goals with a fantastic pass for the first, a super recovery and impressive cross with his weak foot for the second and a Mahrez'esque first time ball over the top for Vardy to run on to for the third. His pressing along with Vardy and Okazaki was the all-important key to us starting on the front foot and keeping the press and intensity high throughout. Seemed particularly hurt by allegations prior to the match judging from social media so I'm delighted by his performance on the pitch. Kudos. Okazaki - 8 - I'm overrating Shinji a bit here, because his quality on the ball and end product was, as usual, questionable. His energy and pressing however was top notch and it set the tone for the rest of the squad. His pressing allowed Drinkwater, Ndidi and Albrighton to win the ball back with the second press. Close to open the scoring with the diverted effort from Vardy's scuffed shot. We have options on the bench when he inevitably tires and if we can get Mahrez in form again, we will have a very potent attack again. Vardy - 9 MOTM - Ndidi and Albrighton put in MOTM-worthy performances, but Vardy won it for us. Simply outstanding work rate, great persistence and exemplary at leading the line. His role is hugely demanding in this setup, but he revels in it. The punishing sprints, the constant harrying, the goalscoring responsibilities and he showed that he hasn't lost his edge. Give him the support and he will shine. Two well taken goals after some scuffed shots, but the key difference was that he was getting shots off! You would forgive a striker's head to go down when service and support has been as poor as it has for months, but he was fired up and full of energy throughout. He was heaving and panting hard with 10 minutes to go, yet still mustered the power to sprint and press. Awesome. Subs: Amartey - 6 - Steadied the ship and was competent in all his actions. Despite us changing formation and him playing partly as a defensive mid, partly as a centerback and even went left and right, the change was seemless which impressed me given the struggles of the team with formations this season. Gray - N/A - One superb run which ended with an unfortunate slip. Probably right to go solo in that situation, but does seem to have his head down at times. Chilwell - N/A - Not on long enough, but won a relieving free kick in added time. Michael Oliver - 9 - Thought he was absolutely flawless. Could've given a penalty against Ndidi second half for a clumsy challenge, but he gave the benefit of the doubt for those types of challenges all game so Liverpool can have few hard feelings. Shakespeare - 10 - Sensational is indeed the right description. To instantly turn around performances with the club in turmoil and a squad under intense fire and pressure despite only having a couple of days to do it was amazing. In hindsight, he did the right thing by consulting players about playing style and tactics and he deployed a tried and trusted XI. He made good changes which were not too early or too late. Yes, it's only one game, but he got a near-perfect performance at the first attempt. I am now looking forward in hope, and with a little bit of expecation, towards Hull on Saturday.

Simpson - 7 Morgan - 7 Huth - 7 Fuchs - 8, great cross for Vardy's goal. Ndidi - 8, playing consistently strong at the moment, just a few poor ball touches letting him down. Drinkwater - superb goal, gave him a much-needed lift. Albrighton - 7, under-appreciated by some; careful but can be potent with his passes to Vardy etc. Okazaki -7, did ok, unlucky with that header in the first half. Vardy - 9, back to his lethal best again; also never moaned and just stuck at it. Mahrez - 8, did fine, good trickery to confuse the defence and wasn't trying to be greedy. Give Shakespeare the role, unless performances and results somehow dip.

Okazaki - 8 - I'm overrating Shinji a bit here, because his quality on the ball and end product was, as usual, questionable. His energy and pressing however was top notch and it set the tone for the rest of the squad. His pressing allowed Drinkwater, Ndidi and Albrighton to win the ball back with the second press. Close to open the scoring with the diverted effort from Vardy's scuffed shot. We have options on the bench when he inevitably tires and if we can get Mahrez in form again, we will have a very potent attack again. Vardy - 9 MOTM - Ndidi and Albrighton put in MOTM-worthy performances, but Vardy won it for us. Simply outstanding work rate, great persistence and exemplary at leading the line. His role is hugely demanding in this setup, but he revels in it. The punishing sprints, the constant harrying, the goalscoring responsibilities and he showed that he hasn't lost his edge. Give him the support and he will shine. Two well taken goals after some scuffed shots, but the key difference was that he was getting shots off! You would forgive a striker's head to go down when service and support has been as poor as it has for months, but he was fired up and full of energy throughout. He was heaving and panting hard with 10 minutes to go, yet still mustered the power to sprint and press. Awesome. Subs: Amartey - 6 - Steadied the ship and was competent in all his actions. Despite us changing formation and him playing partly as a defensive mid, partly as a centerback and even went left and right, the change was seemless which impressed me given the struggles of the team with formations this season. Gray - N/A - One superb run which ended with an unfortunate slip. Probably right to go solo in that situation, but does seem to have his head down at times. Chilwell - N/A - Not on long enough, but won a relieving free kick in added time. Michael Oliver - 9 - Thought he was absolutely flawless. Could've given a penalty against Ndidi second half for a clumsy challenge, but he gave the benefit of the doubt for those types of challenges all game so Liverpool can have few hard feelings. Shakespeare - 10 - Sensational is indeed the right description. To instantly turn around performances with the club in turmoil and a squad under intense fire and pressure despite only having a couple of days to do it was amazing. In hindsight, he did the right thing by consulting players about playing style and tactics and he deployed a tried and trusted XI. He made good changes which were not too early or too late. Yes, it's only one game, but he got a near-perfect performance at the first attempt. I am now looking forward in hope, and with a little bit of expecation, towards Hull on Saturday. The psychologist who we sacked, Ken Way, was on East Midlands News. When asked about Shakespeare, he said he was the glue that keeps Leicester City together. Did look that way from last nights performance.

Dont worry lads, I texted him right after the game to say I now understood why he was so gutted Ranieri had left us.
