MPH Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 I really don't think RB is his position but think he needs regular game time in ONE position. I don't think he'll get that with us this season and for next season? I'd be tempted to send him out on loan for the season. He definitely had the potential to be a good player but young players rarely fulfill that potential without regular game time. Either a top championship team or a newly promoted prem team. thoughts on a loan for next season? ( mods feel free to merge if you feel it's more appropriate to).
Guest Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Loan to top end championship, lower end prem or euros to play as a midfielder. Needs to learn to drive forward street winning the ball. Will never be a rb.
AyewJoking Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 I hate when amartey gets the ball. Sunday league standard. His best position is probably a defensive midfield spoiler because he is simply scared of having the ball.
foxes21 Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 pick a position for him & loan to championship next season. Sign another CM, sell Mendy, James & King 4th/5th choice next season.
Koke Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 What was he doing for their first goal? He's an OK squad player. Second half be looked much better. I'm more concerned about Andy King. With James coming back and the possibility of signing a new CM, I don't know where that leaves King. He was poor again today.
foxy boxing Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 He has struggled with the pace of the Premier League and looks really uncomfortable on the ball, loan him to a Championship club see how he does and then try and offload him. Just not good enough at this level yet

STUHILL Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 He grew into the game. Was very dodgy at the start and looks so uncomfortable on the ball sometimes. I think he has to be tried at CB. I just can't see him being a Premier League player as a RB or CM. I know every position is worth money, but as soon as we are safe, I would try Amartey at CB with Huth. We have to test him there and see if that could be the position he takes up long-term. Otherwise, I don't think he will become anything more than a late defensive sub to make.
Bayfox Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Still think he has potential. But certainly not at right back on that evidence.
NewEnglandFox Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 We've known for a long time we need real cover at RB. Didn't get it again out of him yet again and there have been 2 transfer windows since the first time we played him there. He's made 36 apps for us and we've never seen him play the position he plays for his country.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 didnt think he was that bad, ben was worse imo. wouldn't mind trying him centre back, but we dont really need another centre back who hates having the ball
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Definitely not a RB Personally think he's a better CM backup than King but I'd still like to see him at CB too
Spicer Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 He's a CB all over. He was part of Ghana's centre back pairing that came 3rd in the Afrian Cup of Nations. He may not be great on the ball, but neither Huth nor Morgan are better on the ball. As all our other CB's are 30+ we will start to see him playing in his best position soon.

steflcfc Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 He was out of position and it showed today. he didn't even look comfortable taking throw-ins, they were poor. He has shown odd glimpses when he was a DM but them performances were few and far between. He needs a loan move next season and time to develop a little.
FoxinNotts Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 He's great for the bench. And I don't mean that in a harsh way! His versatility is his strength, aswell as his undoing, as with all utility players. having him on the bench to cover RB, CB and DM means we can have more options for the other positions.
Tuna Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 He's been here a year now and I'm not that impressed if I'm honest I think he's one of those players who is a jack of all trades but a master of none. We need to figure out where we see his natural position because it certainly isn't right back. He could probably do with a loan back to his old club, he's not premier league quality yet.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Only reason he's still around the first team is because he's a utility player. Genuinely think he's got the attributes to be a top central defender, shame he's played pretty much everywhere but there for us.

Webbo Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 I like to see him at CB. Maybe when we've got nothing to play for or at least in pre season.

Would he even be good enough at CB though? His lack of concentration is extremely poor and concentration levels are vitally important for a defender. Also we are a team that forces teams to cross the ball, he doesn't have the speed of thought to get into the right position to deal with crosses like Morgan/Huth.

We're not going to know how good he can be until see him. CBs don't hit their peak until they're 26/27 +. He's still young, he can learn.
Dan Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Put us on the back foot from the off, total headloss within thirty seconds. Grew into it but you do appreciate Simpson a bit more after that.
Corky Posted 9 April 2017 Posted 9 April 2017 Train him up in defence. I think we'll add to the midfield (new signing/s plus James coming back), Amartey is a lot younger and can still learn.
