I'm not as old as you but have a lot of sympathy for cov. Owned by a hedge fund forced to play home games in Northampton for a while it's been a shambles down there in all honesty.

Revelled in our relegation to League One, had plenty of horrible scrotes in their stadium whenever we played there (including Dennis Wise) and deserted their club over the last few years as shown by their attendances.

 

They'll rise back up in time but I have no sympathy for them right now.

Coventry have suffered against poor, incompent owners taking control a well-known club that's had decent history of the past.

 

Now follows Blackburn, Nottingham Forest, Charlton and Blackpool to name some who are struggling to remove their unhelpful owners from spoiling their clubs at present. The first three appear to be gradually sinking from this sad effect.

 

Thus fan-owned clubs, like Portsmouth in particular (who seem to have picked up from nightmare ownership themselves under Gaydamak), may prove to be the best and safest way (though risky of course) of starving off potential foreign corporate football-blinded companies taking over.

 

Hope their relegation wakes up the Football League on foreign-owned/controlling of clubs and make a tougher stance on it.

I know as a fair minded football fan I should sympathise but they weren't very understanding when we went into administration and they were so lucky not to go down to league 1 instead of us. That said I work with a couple of Coventry fans and can't summon the will to take the piss, after all they have won the checkatrade trophy and we haven't!

In two minds.

 

I absolutely dispised them a few years ago, not through a jealous rivalry or anything (Barr an FA Cup what do we have to be jealous about) just as a local rivalry, abit of banter (they are closer to me than Derby or Forest).

 

But way before SISU came in their crowds dwindled, their fanbase vanished, the banter had gone, that is where the fans have their part to blame, not SISU, the fans!

 

Since yeah I'll agree SISU have been wankers, I sympathise, but poor attendances were happening well before.

 

Gone into abit of a rant here anyway, the bangers gone and I miss that. I have mixture of sympathy and piss taking as I sit here on a Madrid balcony having watched my team play in a Champions League Quarter-Final days ago and Coventry are relegated to League Two.

Yep, and don't forget that we and Coventry were looking for new investors at around the same time as SISU and Mandaric were looking for a club. Had Mandaric chosen Coventry and SISU chosen us, things could be very different.

I still think it wouldn't be this extreme a swing because the main damage with Coventry, for me, is surely the Ricoh Arena. It's a slower burning version of what happened at Darlington. It's an appallingly located ground.

 

I still think if we'd have had bottom half finishes ever since 2008 (say we hypothetically stayed up) we'd have never sunk to crowds of 12,000 in the Championship even now.

On the same week we played at the Vicente Calderon against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Coventry get relegated to division 4. I find that hilarious.

 

On the plus side for them, at least they might finally finish top 6 in a league for the first time in decades.

Eternal gratitude to Lord Pearson. We could have spent 6 years in that God awful division like Sheffield United.

Yeah one of the few things that Mandaric nailed here bar selling us to the right people was hire Pearson. I remember his first interview, just so honest and stern after a season we'd had clowns like Martin Allen dishing out portable barbecues to Matty Fryatt and Ian Holloway making crap analogies after yet another drab performance.

On the plus side at least they get to be in the same league as LCFC again and can renew their old rivalry.

Where's John Gaunt when you want him? When we got relegated at stoke to league 1 he dedicated his programme on talk sport to take the rise out of Leicester. He was laughing and goading us saying we would never be back and the foxes were dead. Also said that his mighty Coventry were far superior to us.

Now I don't especially like Coventry. I was at Highfield Road many years ago when they beat us 4-2, days after the 4-4 at Villa Park.

 

It's amazing to think how far apart we are now.

 

I ran into a few of there fans earlier in the season, we were away at Chelsea, they were playing in London somewhere. 

 

I hate what's happened to them.

 

I personally would like Cov, Derby and Forest with us in the Premier League. 

 

It's locally rivally and a few points!

It's a shame for the two lads from Oadby that play for them, that's as far as my sympathy stretches.

I'm from the north of the county so never got the Cov hate.

 

I've been to the Ricoh for a non football event and notice they have a small rememberance garden a bit like ours.

 

To think that fans set that up and some may have scattered ashes around there. For them to have moved to Northampton was bad enough let alone them upping sticks again to share the rugby ground.
