Lovejoy Posted 24 January 2018 Posted 24 January 2018 Saturday 3pm kickoffs - that'll do me just fine! 1
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 24 January 2018 Posted 24 January 2018 Some nice Saturday 3pms coming up then, Arsenal and West Brom look decent.
CosbehFox Posted 24 January 2018 Posted 24 January 2018 Arsenal could still be moved if we get to the Cup quarters
Fox92 Posted 24 January 2018 Posted 24 January 2018 (edited) No tv coverage is always a good thing. Get them Saturday 3pms in! I was worried they were going to move Brighton away. Edited 24 January 2018 by Fox92

MC Prussian Posted 25 January 2018 Posted 25 January 2018 Manchester City in for Bilbao's French centre-back Aymeric Laporte for £57m, which would be a new club record. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42811597 I think I should just leave the money part blank in order not to start suffering from acute hysteria.

Hasn't even played for France yet and 57 million?

To be fair, 57m as a club record is quite surprising for City. Guess he'll be the first of many on their pursuit to super club status.

It would worry me that Zouma has caps and he doesn't but then Jake Livermore has caps and Marc Albrighton doesn't so maybe not the best indicator.

Aguero cost them £38mill, Silva cost £25miill, Kompany cost them £6mill.... and that's been their main spine in recent seasons. Manchester United spent £25mill on Veron in 2001, £20mill on Ferdinand in 2002... think of how much that was then.

They need a bit more quality in one or two positions, but I can't see them being any worse than Swansea, Newcastle or Huddersfield. Think they will stay up comfortably next year. Despite all the money, the bottom half of the PL seems to be getting worse. 1

They're bound to have a few punts that work. Mangala 40m Bony 32m Fernando 12m Navas 22m Jovetic 25m Negredo 25m Rodwell 15m Adebayor 25m Lescott 22m Jo 18m Nolito 14m Bravo 20m That's 240m on ****in garbage. Edited 25 January 2018 by AKCJ 1

However, with the financial backing and contacts they have I could see them turning a few heads and being really competitive at this level.

Key word being could. Everyone at this level has financial backing and contacts. They stick out like a sore thumb in the Championship in the same way that we and Newcastle did.

That's a fair point, but I think they'll be able attract better players than Brighton and Huddersfield for example. Newcastle you'd think are able to attract players of a certain quality but just aren't prepared to spend.

Neither of us could lure players of Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota's quality to that level though, they're not messing about. Wolves will finish top ten next year.

Jota is there on loan, so not so much of a risk other than wages on a short term basis. With Neves, they’re all but promoted (how they’ll probably have sold the move to him), so are preparing for life in the PL.

But Lovejoy is right, that Diogo Jota would not be avaialble for a loan to any other championship club if it wasnt for the link between the Fosun Consortium and Jorge Mendes the agent (and Nuno Santo too) No championship club, even if they theoretically could afford them, would have been in a position to sign Willy Boly and Ruben Neves. Its like the Pozzo project with Watford. The opportunity is there to take advantage of riches and resources other clubs dont have, to propel a championship team into the Premier League and then thats the return on the investment.
