ZeGuy Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 The old man should know when to retire. It's becoming pathetic.
Fox92 Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Arsenal were the first side in this league I remember to be so good on the counter. Those late 90/early 00 teams were lethal. Within a blink of an eye they'd counter and score.
Craig Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 They have had 3.7% more of the ball than Chelsea this season. 3.7%. Chelsea's last three opponents average 43.5% of the ball. Arsenal's last four opponents average 48.4% of the ball. That means that the gap should close to around 2.75% if their final opponents retain their season average vs them both... Some difference.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 He reminds me of Jermaine Jenas after the match against Chelsea. This is something I could see Spurs trying to argue too. There is nothing more boring than watching teams who keep possession for the sake of it even if it's not with any intention of attacking. When I read the title I thought this had probably been taken out of context but he seems to be serious.
AKCJ Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 2 hours ago, Lovejoy said: Boo fcuking hoo. Wenger needs to do one. This is a pathetic attempt to cover up how he has failed to adapt as a manager over the past decade. It's also worth noting that supporters of Leicester, Chelsea and the like don't seem to be moaning about the brand of counter attacking football they're "subjected" to. Yet I'm always hearing Arsenal and City fan moaning about their lack of cutting edge or overplaying in the final third. Spot on. I loved watching Chelsea play on Monday. They were quick, incisive, direct and a right ****ing handful. 100 miles an hour football > pretty passing around the back. Any. Day. Of. The. Week.
Kitchandro Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 I'm starting to see why Mourinho is such a dick to him all the while. What Wenger doesn't seem to realise is it isn't entertaining or effective to pass it 100 times and go nowhere with it, like his team usually does. Arsenal are only attractive to watch when teams leave space in behind and they hit them with quick counterattacks, the very thing he is trying to discredit. He has surely got to leave that club now. He is a joke.
Guest the fox Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Do something about it then! They are not cheating or anything, if you are worried about football, prove that your style is the best. I remember mourinho's 2014-2015 Chelsea being boring (at least for me) but they were winning. If you are winning, you are winning. No one has the right to tell you how to play football if you are successful.
Kitchandro Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 This all goes back to his other comment 'I thought Mahrez was amazing but I can't be seen to only pay £400K on a player'. He's so weak he does things based on what the fans will moan about, all about image but not interested in substance.
Wolfox Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 If I were an Arsenal fan <shudders> I'd be saying "bring me solutions, not problems" Ive worked with a thousand and one people who hide behind there isssus being someone else's the brand of a successful manager is finding ways of dealing with varying tactics... work it out Arsene
Stadt Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Its no surprise that the whiney old cünt's record away at other top 6 clubs is so bad if he dogmatically avoids counter attacking. Yeah you stick to your style of football and get continually dicked and lose out on the title. Mourinho's right, he's a specialist in failure.
BenTheFox Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 It's funny because on the few occasions in recent years where he has beaten top opposition in Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Man City etc. he's done so with less possession...
fazzyfox Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Is he in a roundabout way saying that the capitulation at Munich was down to not being able to play against such a style often in the Premier League, like an extension of the argument that Celtic don't get any diffficult games domestically to atune themselves to Champons League standard? In the Premier League Arsenal's natural flow is "unfairly" obstructed by those awkward sod opponents who get between the ball and the goal to scupper them? As far as turning people off, Man Utd under Van Gaal, all backwards and sideways passing was much more guilty of that than Counter attacking teams who at least provide an occasional adrenalain rush as they take people on, switch play swiftly and use an efficiency of passing in always selecting the most incisive effective passing option that he should admire. All season we see short corners that two passes later are back in their own half, from teams that are behind at the time too, ah but they kept possession!
filbertway Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 I don't know why teams that dominate the ball don't sign a couple of absolute monsters to play up front. If a team is sitting deep against you, sign some strikers that are good in the air and use the fact they're deep to create chances that way
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Does football not need to take a look at itself if there are only 6 teams that can ever win a division? or if the same 6 teams try to by all the best players because they get all the money? Teams find a way to complete in what is not a level playing field, tough shit get on with it!!
MPH Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Hes just revealed himself as an out of date and out of touch manager who is struggling to adapt to modern football and has so far refused to change- despite seeing the need to. If the Arsenal chairman and directors can not see this then they are just as out of touch as he is and do not deserve champions league football.
Clever Fox Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 I lost all respect for the man when he tried to unsettle our players during the league run-in last season. His time has passed. Arsenal are one less team to worry about in our quest for the title next season as he won't improve them anymore.
urban.spaceman Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Arsene. Last time Arsenal won the league Leicester City were relegated to the Championship again after just one season back in the Premier League. Since then we've gone through 18 (EIGHTEEN) changes of management (including caretakers), have had to deal with the financial fallout of building a new stadium and settling in, changed ownership twice, been relegated to the lowest position in our history, suffered cruel play-off heartbreak twice, pulled off the greatest escape from relegation, and won THREE league titles. The reason we survived relegation AND pulled off the greatest sporting achievement in history is because we stopped trying to simply nullify our opponents and played a system that truly suited our players. Our style of play was extremely efficient with the ball - very strong in defence, simply deadly in attack. In the meantime you've coasted, using the same old worn-out tactics with players who deserve better and have had to leave Arsenal in order to win trophies. I'll just leave this here - players who left Arsenal during their 2005-2013 trophy-free spell: I genuinely hope he continues to learn nothing except where to sign on the dotted line for the inevitable contract offer. I also hope one day we get to beat the bastards.
WigstonWanderer Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Good idea Arsene, lets scrap the idea of goals and the team that has the most possession wins. Then we can all pass side to side until everone falls asleep.
Captain... Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Remember when Arsenal did things like this: Win the ball and get forwards quickly and in numbers. Wenger must have been furious, good job he has coached this behaviour out of them now.
iamafox Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 And if you thought Wenger couldn't be any more deluded. Sick of hearing his endless barrage of excuses. Do the likes of DT, Claude and Troopz a favour and walk away.
Foxhateram Posted 10 May 2017 Posted 10 May 2017 Well I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of our home game against Athletico. Both teams countering eacother with direct but quality passes. Quick counters and quality through balls. I would much rather watch that then Arsenal/England/Man City pass it around with no purpose or cutting edge. Besides those teams encourage the counter attacking style of play by keeping the ball in areas of the pitch that are not dangerous. If it's in the oppositions half it is of no threat. You crack on and we'll take a breather and keep a tight bank of 4 thanks. Move with the changes in the game Arsene. Possession based football is boring and no one wants to pay 70 quid a game to see it.
