I'm pretty sure Rooney was not on £600k a week. lol

Think we was on £300,000, which is literally robbing a living due to under-performing most of the time.

Everton are ready to double Gylfi Sigurdsson’s wages as they look to wrap up a deal with Swansea this week, according to the Daily Mirror.

The report claims Everton will offer Sigurdsson in the region of £150,000 a week, putting him level with the returning Wayne Rooney.

Rooney took a significant paycut to return to Goodison Park this month but is still one of Everton’s top earners.

Now it seems the Toffees are ready to offer Sigurdsson a similar deal in order to lure him from south Wales.

Everton had hoped to complete a deal for the 27-year-old before jetting off to the Netherlands for a week long pre-season tour today.

That now looks impossible with Swansea holding firm in their £50m valuation of the midfielder.

Everton and Leicester have already reportedly had bids in the region of £40m turned down by the Swans, who insist they will not be bullied into selling their star player on the cheap.

Sigurdsson didn’t fly out to America with the rest of the Swansea squad last week because he “didn’t feel in the right frame of mind” given the transfer speculation surrounding him.

Reports since suggest Sigurdsson is keen on a move to Goodison Park but any transfer is going to cost the club big money.

It appears likely that Everton will have to break their transfer record once again to land the former Tottenham man. Throw in his wages and it may well be one of the most expensive transfers completed all summer.

If he goes to whereever, the money paid for him by his perspective new club will probably be over-valued if he doesn't have a strong strong or becomes very inconsistent.

He's a decent player for his position, but certainly not one of the best.

I personally think he's too inconsistent and, like Andy King, goes missing at certain periods.

I'd imagine his goals and assists from free-kicks would offset some of that - cos right now we don't have a free-kick specialist and that would be serious self-harm when it comes to ambition.

Interesting that there are clubs either allowing players, or putting up with them not attending training or pre season because they want to move despite no deal being reached.

Barkley, Sigurdsson, Costa off the top of my head.

It speaks volumes for Riyads respect for the lads and management here IMO that he is just getting on with it despite being in the same situation.

Or putting the price, and wages up, on everything we (and out bidding rivals) might want.

No, no, no!  We are putting ourselves in a position to attract some real world class talent.  The way I see it is that Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and City Utd are always going to be top of the list as destinations for the superstars of the game.  Everton, who finished a comfortable 7th last season are trying to join that group, and this type of talk puts us firmly in the same bracket as them.  You don't see these words coming out of WBA, Southampton or Crystal Palace.

It's part and parcel of heading in the right direction. 10/10 for ambition, we are getting stuff done this summer.

No - sorry mate - that's not the narrative generally pushed on here. He's just a lazy git who doesn't care a jot for the club or his team mates .........  allegedly!

What's with giving mahrez credit for turning up,he's paid more than enough and is expected to turn up,his body language stinks, and maybe it's the fact He knows Barca or real ain't coming knocking and he's accepting that he's likely to be a city player come the start of the season if Roma's derogatory offer is anything to go by

You reap what you sow, half arsed it last season and now he can't get his dream move.

I'd respect him more if he stuck it out 1 more season and gave his all to get the dream move, if he ends up going Roma I can't help but feel it would be a compromise on his behalf.

I've nothing against the "ambition" - our signing the guy would speak volumes for itself and would go with several other world or near world-class players we've had in our squad these last few seasons...Kante (world),  Kasper, Mahrez and Vardy (high class) .

But I'm not impressed by the leakage of wage offers whoever's responsible although, on reflection, I'd doubt it'd be anyone on our side of the debate. It's not our style.

Anyone in football with half an ear to the ground, to the media and to the gossip columns would know already that we're seriously ambitious. We don't need to cheapen ourselves.

Discretion is the hallmark of class. And our deeds on the Premiership and Champions League pitches have spoken volumes and in exactly the right language.
