Still, I don't like the idea of playing £40 million for him. Plus, the team really needs goals from set-pieces To get quality players you have to spend money that's how it is. If Mahrez goes for £35 million then in theory he would cost us only £5 million does that make sense

ARM1968 Posted 26 June 2017 Posted 26 June 2017 I know. Hence the deliberate mistakes. Sigs isn't Dutch for instance. But as you're the first, well done.

The problem is that Mahrez has made it very clear he wants to leave and Sigurdsson has not said anything. Ultimately it's upto the club to say yes to the transfer and if they get anything half decent for Mahrez they'll let him go as they don't want a player who doesn't want to play for the club, would cause all sorts of issues, unrest etc. With Sigurdsson, Swansea don't have to sell him as he has never said he wants to leave, so they can just demand stupid money. It's not about who is worth what, it's down to circumstances, and Mahrez (or his agent) knew that no one would pay silly money for him so have said what they said openly to decrease his sale price.

Different kind of player to Mahrez. Could he have the same impact as Mahrez as regards goals and assists? Absolutely he could!

Spot on. Finally a bit of sense. I'd personally be delighted if we sold Mahrez for £35m and signed Gylfi for £40m. Gylfi has been class for years. Mahrez has had one unbelievable season. I am in no way slating Mahrez's ability as he is the most skilful player we've ever had but he's certainly not as irreplaceable as Kante. Gylfi got 13 assists and 9 goals in a poor team last season. Doesn't matter if most came from set pieces or pens etc, goals are goals, assists are assists regardless of how they come

Not saying that's a bad thing but I was questioning whether that's worth paying £40m for. Do we need someone that has more of an impact on general play. Sorry If and when Mahrez leaves who takes our free-kicks or poses any serious creative threat? The stats suggest Gylfi would contribute considerably and I can't imagine him being any worse when we haven't got the ball which is not meant to be disrespectful to Mahrez, just to highlight that Mahrez is arguably diminished as a player the more he tries to do defensively because it's energy-draining and clearly not his natural element. We'd still need another genuine winger mind. I still don't see that we've really anyone who's the full package out wide. Pace, skill, vision, crossing and final ball ability, courage, stamina.and goals.
st albans fox Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 There is a small chance that gylfi/swansea rejected our initial approach for financial reasons. At that time the club were not resigned to losing Riyad. perhaps they now are and are able to increase their package to both swansea and the player as a result. I suspect he rejected us for playing reasons but if anyone needs something to cling to then it's above.
ARM1968 Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 The Mockery has obviously been trawling Foxestalk again.
Countryfox Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 So they've slapped a 40m price tag on him, JUST TO TALK ... they have financial muscle ... he has shown no signs of wanting to leave .. and other prem teams (yep fookin Everton and spuds) are also interested ... If I was a betting man ...

Cant pull players and still going for signings out of walsh's book of tricks, which he will have obviously taken to Everton. Would love to see both sig and Iheanacho at city & keep mahrez (If hes willing to work hard only) but I just cant see it materializing personally. We must look elsewhere and start laying serious amounts of cash down

Jon the Hat Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 This is definitely either on or off or off or on or off.

From the edge of the box? surely not when Fuchs takes a good attacking free kick. From a crossing position yes I agree. Perhaps not him, but he did not stand out at all when Walsh was here. Just saying its not a coincidence.

Wague was looked at years ago. N'didi had been tracked for a minimum of 18 months. We won't just bin off all the players we've been tracking for years. That list won't last for ever though, the worrying this is that we keep referring to an outdated list they might no longer match our level (see Wague).
Bazly Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 £40mn doesn't buy what it used to. He isn't 400 Frank Worthingtons.

Blodge Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 Glyfi Sigurdsson PL stats: Appearances: 182 Goals: 42 Assists: 33 Total involvement in goals: 75 Riyad Mahrez Appearances: 103 Goals: 27 Assists: 17 Total involvement in goals: 44 When you compare the two, considering we're adamant we're not selling Mahrez below £50m (which I agree with btw, as Mahrez is still a class above), is £40m really too much for a player of Sigurdsson's quality? I know stats can be deceiving, but Sigurdsson has proven that he can score and assist, in a weak Swansea team that have struggled over the past few seasons, and is easily worth the money.
ARM1968 Posted 27 June 2017 Posted 27 June 2017 No. Sigs are worth it. Pay the dollar. Smoke the opposition.
