I think we need two transfer threads per player  - one for debating how good/not good, worth/not worth it the player is and one for actual transfer news on the player.

When a player signs an "official" he has signed thread wil pop. so you can assume any new post in a current thread is bollocks

That's also bollocks !

plenty of ITK info pops up from time to time which is relevant to the transfer itself. Also info re links of the player to other clubs etc

Probably, but then you might not get the sort of player we want. Someone creative that can also fill the hard working role of Okazaki, Sigurdsson is hard working as well as being a top talent.

Sounds like we'd be playing Iheanacho in the Okazaki role though. Or that's where he's best suited anyway.

£40m is world class money. I'm not sure I rate him as world class. I'd like someone a bit quicker and capable of beating players (a la Mahrez) for that sort of money.

Glyfi Sigurdsson PL stats:

Appearances: 182

Goals: 42

Assists: 33

Total involvement in goals: 75

Riyad Mahrez

Appearances: 103

Goals: 27

Assists: 17

Total involvement in goals: 44

When you compare the two, considering we're adamant we're not selling Mahrez below £50m (which I agree with btw, as Mahrez is still a class above), is £40m really too much for a player of Sigurdsson's quality?

I know stats can be deceiving, but Sigurdsson has proven that he can score and assist, in a weak Swansea team that have struggled over the past few seasons, and is easily worth the money.

Just out of interest, how many of those goals and assists are from dead ball situations?

Kyle Walker is also going to Man City for 40m and Chelzea are spending 65m on a LB.

If full backs are going for that amount, surely midfielders hitting double figures are worth that amount?

Who knows, it's a crazy market.

not any more. (though I do think its about 8 mill over the top for him.). thing is, for what he would bring to our team (creativity and work rate) it would probably be the vardy type scenario where you can buy a goal scorer but not one who works so hard.

Not entirely sure it didn't drill down into that. I'd assume more are from dead ball situations, but isn't that something we desperately need?

Would it be a negative if it was a significant number? Surely it doesn't matter where the balls are coming from as long as goals are being scored?

£40m isn't world class money any more - as depressing as it is. You want someone quick, who can beat a man, and ideally consistently create chances/score...? Who would that be for sub £40/50m?

I'm thinking it's one or the other from Iheanacho and Sigurdson and not both.

Mane - £34 million

Sane - £37 million

Benteke - £32 million

Ozil - £42.5 million

Sterling - £50 million

Salah - £36 million

Martial - £36 million

Not the same types of player but still. Sigurdsson is pretty good in terms of goals/assists. Not sure how the others compare over the last few seasons (Obviously Salah isn't in the PL yet) but Sigurdsson has been playing in a poor team all this time.

I'm not quite sure where he fits in but for me £35 mil isn't that bad value in this market, 40 is probably pushing it though.

Probably neither.

Both are being priced highley and we are not willing to meet the figures at the minute

THe whole market is waiitng for first moves at higher levels - Mbappe, Sanchez and co. this will filter down to moves for Mahrez , Sigurdsson, Barkley and co.

Swansea signing Roque Mesa (Midfielder) for 11m..... Does that mean Siggy is leaving?

It probably means their recruitment team has the ability to identify targets and reel them in quickly and efficiently without running up 60 pages on their fans forum.
