Shakespeare future decided next week - Percy

Craig Shakespeare will find out next week if he is to be Leicester City's long-term manager.

Shakespeare will meet with the Leicester board after Sunday’s game against Bournemouth and is understood to be closing in on the job beyond the summer.

The former assistant to Claudio Ranieri and Nigel Pearson, Shakespeare has secured Premier League survival with seven wins from 11 games, while he suffered a narrow defeat to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final.

Leicester’s board are now considering rewarding the 53-year-old with a long-term contract after receiving unequivocal support for the move from the dressing room.

In the build-up to Thursday night’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur, Shakespeare revealed his future will be decided next week.

“I expect it in the following days after Sunday’s game,” he said. “Hopefully it will come to a conclusion soon.

“We have two games left now and I think the club realise that in terms of forward planning it is important that everybody knows. We won’t have to wait long.”

Shakespeare has been involved in recruitment for the summer and is also planning to make additions to his coaching staff if, as expected, he is given the job.

After the departure of Ranieri in February, Shakespeare has relied on a skeleton staff, working closely with goalkeeping coach Mike Stowell and head of fitness and conditioning Matt Reeves.

“Of course in my head I have ideas on that [staff] and when we sit down I’ll be able to give them my thoughts,” he said.

“As a manager and a coach you have to have ideas and thoughts and the thought process in your head and ready. But you don’t want to jump ahead and you don’t want to do things like that. I’m not an off-the-cuff person, I like to be organised.”

Leicester will face Spurs in their penultimate game of the season with a chance to finish eighth in the table if they win.

It's a certainty imo

Yeah I'd be shocked of he doesn't. Think the owners would've told him by now if he wasn't going to be

His language in interviews has inferred that he'll be in the job permanently. Rightly so too, he's been almost faultless.

I can understand some concerns about him as he hasn't overcome all of the obstacles he is likely to, but in two months he took a side that was going down (admittedly, should never have been) and turned us into a side in top four form. We've had a few injuries towards the end which you've got to expect after a season like this one, probably our most physically draining ever, so he's been playing a fairly limited side of late and yet we were still quite unlucky to lose at Man City.

He's shown enough to be worth going with for me. Don't buy this "can't attract the players" argument. This is a new era. Players want to come and play in this league. I don't think it will make a huge difference. Not enough to abandon all that he brings anyway.

Give him the job and put some trust in him.

Wonder if we'll get some praise for going with a British manager, or does that only apply when it's the medias mate Ryan Giggs?

Bit of a random one but does anyone else think our set pieces have improved significantly under him? We actually mix it up a bit and look a genuine threat now. That's often a sign of better coaching.

His ambition is refreshing and is aligned with the owners in the sense that he wants us to compete for a champions league place, the players respect him but i feel that they will Respect him more after that statement, no reaching 40 points bollocks which is good because ambition is what these players need.

Shakey isn't the finished article by any means, but he has the potential to do good things for the club I was hesitant before re him, but he recognises that he needs a support mechanism in place which is positive.

Hopefully we can finish the season well, and have a good summer in the transfer market. WYS!

I hope he gets the job.

I also hope that bit about support from the dressing-room means that most of the media talk of a mass exodus of players in the summer is bullshit.

Why would any attention be paid to support from key players if they were expected to leave in the summer?

Hopefully Shakespeare staying might encourage 1 or 2 to stay if they're considering their futures.

Looked at the other way round, Shakespeare's case is weaker if a lot of players really are expected to leave....hopefully not the case.

I'm half-assuming that Mahrez will go. But if we start next season with Shakespeare in the dug-out, Schmeichel, N'Didi, Albrighton, Fuchs, Vardy & co on the pitch, plus about 3 good signings, I'll be a happy man.

I'm not convinced he'll get the permanent job.

I hope he does but I'd not be surprised if he doesn't.

He has earned he job. I dont see anyone that would come to lcfc and play to our current squads strength. Would be some major shakeups and thats not necessarily  a good thing.

Realistically we should be aiming for top 10 at the minimum (any less  is failure) with a real drive to finish 6th to 8th next season.

In shakey i trust

If we see a slight change in attitude to be a little less 'conservative' with his formation and team selection (barring injuries) then perhaps we can assume that something has been said in the past few days.

The only reason he shouldn't get the job is IF a massive name is lined up. Off the top of my head I cant think of anyone who a) is available and b) would want to come to us

Rodger Schmidt would be the only name I can think of who'd perhaps get it over Shakespeare.

Because its so obvious, it seems a waste of internet stating he should be our next full time manager.

Silva from relegated Hull? Not for me, a few good results but certainly not a miracle worker.

To take the survival battle to the penultimate weekend with the shit they had when he rocked up? That's bloody impressive.

All greats have to start somewhere. I think Shaky could turn out to be an utter gem. Hopefully we get to see. I think he has earned at least a 12 month contract - hopefully longer. We need stability and I think Shaky offers that.
