Recommended Posts

According to the media Leeds United have confirmed that Garry Monk has resigned from his position as Manager.

I wonder where he is headed? Lots of rumours suggesting Middlesbrough.

Mods please merge if posted elsewhere.

The statement from Leeds says, 'no individual bigger than our club'. Does this suggest a fallout? Maybe Monk didn't like the new owner

Or he made it clear he wanted to go to/talk to another club.

I have now just read the full statement. Monk didn't want to exercise the further 12 month option which the chairman reluctantly accepted. Looks like Leeds didn't want to lose him but Monk has obviously got his eye on another job. I would have thought Sunderland but I wonder if Watford or Palace would be interested

Not really being petty.  They openly said they were not happy that he has left.

It's the words they used, they could say they were disappointed but it smacks of pettiness, have a little grace but that wouldn't be leeds.

I may just be defending them because Leeds is my Dad's club , but I thought they just sounded genuinely disappointed, and saying no man is bigger than the club is just them trying to comfort people....

A statement said: "While we are deeply saddened by Garry's decision, there is no individual bigger than our club."

"We thank Garry for his contribution during his time at Leeds United, we are disappointed that would could not continue on this journey together."

If he's looking for another short term managerial post then Watford is the job for him.

They say he resigned, but he was only on a one year contract. Maybe his demands for a renewal weren't realistic?

I'd give Pearson 2 days if he gets the gig there.

Feel for Leeds a bit, they finally get a good manager and go and fook it all up

They did that in the last 8 weeks of the league season surely?

A strange decision from Monk. Leeds are a big Club and if he has belief in his own ability then surely it was worth another season in the Championship.

I suspect it was more to do with him either not getting the financial backing he wanted or the new Owners have other plans.

He'sI think Leeds are the losers. He's a very good Manager and I like the way he quietly goes about his work.                                                                       He's another I wouldn't mind seeing here if Shakey doesn't get the job.

Leeds are not a big club.

Check their history: They bounced around between the top two divisions from 1919, when they were formed, until Revie became their manager in 1961, after which they won the league a couple of times, the FA Cup once, and were runners up several times. Apart from the Cantona-inspired League win in 1991-92, they have done fvck-all since. One simple fact: they took two attempts to get out of Division Three, and only came up (a couple of years after us) as runners up.

On the balance of what they have actually achieved, they are on a level with Florist - who actually won a couple of European Cups (yes, I know, that may come as a surprise to me - my Florist supporting mates never mention that).

I was amused by a story I read this evening that Ranieri is in the frame to take over from Monk. Good luck with that: bottom three by Christmas?
