Sam Hughes is in fact very like John Sjoberg in every way. I have a season ticket for both Leicester and Chester and have seen him mature over the last year from a raw talented youth to a confident and strong young player. In many ways he reminds me in style and stature of Duncan Edwards, who I saw play all those years ago and that is not an overstatement. I hope it all goes through and that we might also get a couple on loan from the foxes as they have some brilliant young players in the lower ranks of the club. A year in the conference would do them good. A good piece of business for both clubs.

Only heard positive things about him. Hardly any risk to this transfer. Best of luck to him.

That's it, given how much money the club are generating, £125k is nothing for what could turn out to be a good player.

Let's hope he can grasp his chance in the near future and make the first team , would be great to see and is a real prospect

Very highly rated at Chester and a few clubs were tracking him, given full time coaching he could develop into a good player. I'm all for taking these sorts of players as they are no risk whatsoever, if he becomes league 1 standard we'll recoup our money and if he doesn't then it's a shrewd investment!

Our track record of bringing youngster's through is very poor.

At one a quarter times Riyad's weekly wage, an absolute bargain. Gerrimin. Excellent signing and not a financial gamble. Well done Rudders.  You can take another holiday now. I take back everything.................well nearly everything.

Errr, Chilwell, Gray, Barnes, N'Didi and Amartey have all played first team football this season and are all under 23

Three promising young players have been added to Leicester City’s Development Squad ranks this week, including two from the Club’s Academy.

Highly-rated defender Sam Hughes, 20, will join the Development Squad on 1 July, after agreeing a move from National League club Chester on a three-year deal.

The powerful centre-half was Chester’s Player of the Year last season, winning a host of admirers for his mature and consistent performances at the heart of the Blues defence. He joins City following the expiration of his contract and the Club would like to extend its thanks to Chester CEO Mark Maguire for his support for the player and efforts to facilitate the move.

Lots of positive feedback from Chester fans on Social Media too, which is good to see! They think we've got a real gem on our hands.

i always get concerned we sign promising youngsters too early in their career....  we improve them, they get bored of waiting and then leave after a couple of years to go on and have a stellar career at their new club...

I can't think of any ?

For those of you who wanted Big Sam, we may have got him ...

Hello all, another Chester fan here.

Sam is a product of our academy run on mostly volunteers, he's been at the club since a young age so it's a real feeling of pride at this move for the club.

Sam had been a central midfielder up until he hit first team football, so he has become technically very good. That has meant that despite him now being a centre back (can also operate right back and centre mid) he actually has the technical ability of a central midfielder; he can pass, confident on the ball. But then he has the qualities you'd expect of a centre back; he's strong, very physical for a young lad. He wins headers all the time and bosses plenty of experienced centre forwards. I have genuine belief he can make it, and I sure hope he does not just for himself but for some more money for Chester through add-ons!

Treat him well lads, we're all so proud of him. Up the Seals!

Thank you, hope he is able to make such a step up, but sounds like he has the qualities you need to do so. Glad we are looking in the lower divisions because there are certainly gems to be found there.

Thanks for taking the time for filling us in on him, he sounds very promising. We've had some good feedback from selling clubs supporters over the years, good and bad and it's usually been pretty accurate because supporters know their own players. I seem to remember a couple of positive comments regarding Vardy and few suprising  negative ones regarding Musa,  both of which turned out to be pretty accurate. On the positive side also, it also shows that someone at the club is still scouring the lower league clubs in our own country and not just abroad.  The very best of luck to this young lad and I hope he makes it.

Don't know how many of last year's signings we'll keep but I'd honestly favour Premier or other lower league signings with home country experience this year as we need to hit the ground running.

Must be a key advantage in deals like this and Josh Gordon for us having had Vardy make the step up

Very good point, I know we all get a bit fed up of people always saying oooh he could be the next Jamie Vardy when we look at or sign players from the lower league but it also got to work to our advantage . They will see we took a gamble on Vardy and made him a premier league player and hopefully think I'll have some of that .

We had an up and coming centre back in Liam Moore who is now proving himself at another club. Hope Sam develops at the same rate in our colours.

Welcome to the club mate!

Quality is quality no matter where you find it. You just need to able to spot the potential talent that may be hidden within the player. These are exactly the type of players we should  be signing.

At today's crazy prices even if only 1 in 10 makes it to the Premiership it's still worth the gamble.

Credit has to go to Rudkin for these signings and it's clear to me that we are now developing a policy for this type of signing which is good to see. As it positions us well for the future.

That's not to say that we shouldn't be signing players to go straight into the Team now as we clearly need a few right now for next season.

We're developing a very strong under 23s which will be challenging the first team shortly.

Long may it continue.

Upon revealing Leicester City signing him, he said:

"I'm grateful for such a big club to give me the opportunity; but I hope some fans on FoxesTalk don't write me off if the first foot I put on the King Power pitch is my left one instead of the right one and that Thracian isn't too disappointed I'm not from Leicester's own youth academy."
