I remember Grimsby away last season where there was 4 people who paid from LCFC as the rest were family and freebies !!  oh there was 609 attendance . Lost 6-1 to cheltenham too . Really is no gain from this at all .

So much bitterness from us Foxes fans, it gives Spurs the chance to win a trophy so stop being nasty

It doesn't " develop " any player losing 6-1 to Cheltenham , It does completely the opposite . It would be great if Spurs won it tho .

Joke competition, discredited due to ridiculous fines handed out to lower league clubs for picking younger players (IE weakened teams) which is the whole point of the competition.

Absolute joke and a it has a silly name as well.

Play a better side but if our under 21's or under 23's whatever get an absolute tanking from a not Cheltenham Town first tells you they are many, many miles from being close to a 1st team squad or even cutting the mustard in the championship or 1st division

I don't think the PL and Championship academy experiment worked last season and I can't see it working this.

Let L1 and L2 have their trophy. I work in Cov and know people who went to the final last season and absolutely loved it. Having the Prem teams in there devalues the competition and I don't think it actually benefits the academies anyway.

The point of this competition is to allow the Lower League sides to have their day out at Wembley.

Fine.

But, we have a massive issues with our international players in this country due to too many foreigners playing here which forces our youngsters in to the lower leagues. This competition allows our youngsters to play against a higher level of competition than they are used to in a mans game. It also gives injures senior players the chance for some game time.

I can't see any negative in that...

I said before that if Leicester win the FA Cup I can die a happy man, but I'll take the Checkatrade honestly. Really hope we take it seriously.

Think you can have a max of 3 players over 23yrs playing each game.

its 6 outfield players have to be under 21 years old . 4 outfield and the goalkeeper can be over . Also all group stage games for our u 21's will be away .

I simply refuse to follow us in this competition. It is the only time I want us not to do well. Not us alone, but collectively I hope the academies all get knocked out early.

For league 1 and 2 clubs this is realistically the only competition they can have a genuine ambition of winning. Let them have their competition and a potential trip to Wembley.

They voted for it and to keep a similar format with the academies involved this year.

The clubs might have voted for it (im guessing significantly increased cash is involved as a result of PL academies being involved). But ask the fans of these clubs and they do not want it.

I can't see a problem. It's another opportunity for emerging players to gain experience against adult footballers, to put themselves on the footballing map, to further their knowledge and experience and to make an impression in a competitive situation.

Look at it positively and there will be positive outcomes.  If we're in it, try to win it.

To be fair even with the u23s the cup was still one by a team that hasn't finished in the top 10 of any league for a billion years or something, a team which hasn't experienced any glory for many years and gave their supporters a day out at Wembley.

Many making the trip to Fleetwood tonight? I'm going to give it a go seeing as I'm close by, disagree with the concept but might as well give it a watch.

Hoping to to see a few minutes for Huth and Mendy, maybe even iheanacho if he's not gone on international duty.

Last year Benalouane went from the losing to Walsall in the Checkatrade Trophy to drawing at home against Atletico Madrid in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League within 6 months. And now he can't even get in the development squad 4 months later!

(Someone please post a clip of that tackle against Burton...)
