Rarely do you see player regress in their so called "peak age" but King has. He was once a "budding goal scoring midfielder" now he's a "backup midfielder" I think our progression as a club over the last few years has kind of made it a bit of a weird situation with King. He's a steady player that can be called upon to do a job from time to time, but he's never going to be a long term solution. Saying all of that, it's hard to put a price on continuity and having a player who's got knowledge of the past. He isn't somebody who's an all time club legend but he certainly should be respected and celebrated. Good post, although I'm not sure I'd agree he's regressed as a player. It's just that he's gone from competing with Richie Wellens, Matt Oakley and Jay Spearing for a midfield berth to battling the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Wilfred Ndidi and N'Golo Kante over the past couple of years. That said, he's been more than steady when asked to do so and has put in some crucial performances. His goal against Everton in the title winning game was my favourite precisely because it marked the culmination of everything he'd been a part of, from making his debut in our worst ever season to a title winning midfielder via a cold Monday night at Yeovil in League One. Let it be Leicester City vs an Andy King XI.

Bert Posted 30 July 2017 Posted 30 July 2017 Won every division he's played in for us and been in the first team coming up to ten years. How that doesn't deserve a testimonial and why some fans slate him is beyond me.

Voll Blau Posted 31 July 2017 Posted 31 July 2017 Anyone still doubting whether he has a role at this club only needs to see his comments about the Mahrez situation the other week to realise his worth is more than that of a player to us. Having a guy like in King as a constant presence in the squad, and the club, is of great value. Plus, he still does a job every now and then when we need him, doesn't gripe when we don't need him AND still managed to play in the semi-final of a major tournament last year. I think I'll probably cry if he ever does leave us.
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 31 July 2017 Posted 31 July 2017 See the James/Drinkwater 'guess who' video on the official site. Their description of King is that he is the person players go to for advice. Love the bloke, a legend in my eyes.

He's more like the Club captain than Morgan from what i hear as he's involved in all the player/manager discussions

Love the bloke, a legend in my eyes. agree with this. majority of opinions on football are determind from what's done on the pitch. But what's heavily understated and underestimated is the effect some players/personnel can have off the field and away from what you see for 90 mins.
foxy boxing Posted 31 July 2017 Posted 31 July 2017 he's been at the club so long he's like an old piece of furniture that's just so comfortable and holds so many memories that you don't just want to throw it out!. he's not the greatest player we have had and has been slated by the fans many a time but he has served us well and been there for the good times and the bad and deserves a testimonial
Gaz741 Posted 31 July 2017 Posted 31 July 2017 He really hasn't 'stayed loyal'. How can you be classed as loyal when no one else wants you! Not only that but year on year he is racking up a huge loyalty bonus. Put it this way, if you were manager of aston villa or Fulham right now and wanted a new centre midfielder to get you promoted, would you sign andy King? Nope. Bottom end championship midfielder Dave Edwards even gets into the Wales team ahead of him. His standard is Barnsley or burton albion. Pretty worrying.

Not quite sure what the current Fulham and Villa squads are like but yes I would take him. There aren't many players out there who have bags of experience in the top 3 divisions of English football. Dave Edwards probably gets into the Wales team because he plays more minutes than what King does. He could have left a number of times during our Championship years but didn't. Just because teams aren't actively seeking him out now, doesn't mean he has never been loyal or that teams wouldn't take him. He's clearly good for the squad and he does a job when required. Sadly he isn't the goal scoring midfield he once was but that due to the various different roles handed to him by the different managers throughout the years. Players these days don't tend to stay around for 10 years. Let alone achieve what he has done at one club. Credit where credit is due!

He had the opportunity to join "bigger" clubs when we were in the championship and decided to slum it with us instead, I'd call that pretty loyal tbh Find it baffling that the same people who consider Was a club legend are on here claiming Andy King has just been baggage for the past five years

It was well known that Everton, Fulham and Aston Villa all asked about King during his first few years at the club. Tbf the three seasons we've been in the PL since promotion, you wouldn't want to leave. 1st season - in and out of the first team 2nd season - we won the bloody league and he was regularly played 3rd season - the club he played for years were champions and played in the Champions League. It's only really you'd consider a change of scenery. And David Edwards hasn't been preferred to Andy King in Wales team at all. King was out of the June games. The only time Edwards started in this qualification campaign, King started as well.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 31 July 2017 Posted 31 July 2017 that season after the play-offs when we had Sven he was unplayable. Not sure about some of the interest other people have touted, but I remember West Brom & Everton being serious at the time but he wanted to stay. Don't think you can particularly argue that we've outgrown his ability now, but he's still a useful player when called upon. He probably has the most impressive Leicester legacy as well.

Hes gone from our very own Lampard to just sitting infront of our defence hitting sideways balls. I think hes a better finisher then okazaki. That's because he is a team player and does the role he is asked to play. Our 4411 formation and style relies on the midfield 2 sitting in front of our centre backs forcing the ball out wide. All this King bashing is pretty pathetic, he may not be first choice but you need depth and despite the likes of Kante, Cambiasso, Drinkwater, James, Mendy, Ndidi he has made over 20 appearances in every premier league season so far. Andy King: 363 appearances, 61 goals, League one winner, Championship winner, Premier League winner, champions league quarter finalist. Legend? What do you think?

I agree, king will always be a legend in my eyes regardless of what anyone else thinks, just like Walsh, even though neither is/was the greatest player. My point is, its perplexing hes never played further up the pitch in a 4411 since he is such a good finisher and its a more natural position for him.

Rob1742 Posted 3 August 2017 Posted 3 August 2017 Don't see the point of a testimonial. I remember going to a Gordon Banks one years ago, think it was about the fourth one he had. A pointless match, old players wheeled out, pointless teams and a worthless spectacle. I could understand them them in the 60's when money was tight, but players don't need the money in the top leagues so please don't put a pointless match down our throats that will be less than dull. In any case, it's 10 years, most people spend 10 years at a company, it's no big deal. Maybe rarer in football these days, but it's more about him being offered the best package at LCFC for the last ten years rather than loyalty. Nice lad Kingy though, a real decent sort, but just think testimonials are now outdated, pointless and very very dull
