MAHREZ IN LIMBO 

Arsenal transfer news: Riyad Mahrez in Gunners sights after Roma pull out of race to sign wantaway Leicester playmaker

 

ROMA have pulled the plug on their pursuit of Riyad Mahrez and admitted they are moving on to other targets – leaving Arsenal with a clear path to the Algerian.

However there is nothing to suggest the Gunners have altered their position from last summer, when Arsene Wenger snubbed the wantaway winger.

 

Roma had tabled bids of £21million and over £30million for Mahrez but the Foxes threw out both bids and will not consider selling until someone meets their minimum valuation of £50million.

That message finally got through to the Italian giants as Roma’s sporting director Monchi accepted defeat and confirmed, with three years remaining on his current contract, Leicester hold all the aces where Mahrez is concerned.

Monchi told Italian media: “I’m optimistic by nature but the truth is Roma did everything possible to buy the player.

“He would have been the most expensive player in Roma’s history but up until now we haven’t received any positive feedback from the other side.

“The offer we made was an important one but the priority isn’t just Mahrez because we’ve done everything necessary – now we’re looking around for other players.”

 

Mahrez claimed he wanted to speak to Roma but sources close to the player believe his preferred choice has always been to stay in the richest league in the world – with Arsenal, his No.1 option if they enter the fray.

Monchi said: “The player (Mahrez) expressed what he wants publicly but it’s right that we respect his club.

“In the end everything will be resolved in the will or desire of whether or not Leicester want to sell the player.”

With those three years remaining on his contract, the answer from Leicester’s camp remains a resounding: ‘No.’

Arsenal will bid what Roma did, knowing that Mahrez will push hard from this end to make it happen.

 

The only way he'll go for more than that is if multiple clubs start bidding for him... Inter for eg. puts a spanner in the works

Then he won't be sold. There's no way Mahrez is going to be sold to any club for £31.6m.

 

id be amazed if the owners let him go for less than £40m.

There will be bids peppered from a lot of clubs on deadline day if he's still here. Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs all conceivably still need a player like Mahrez.

with regards to where things stand , I think mahrez will do an Edward Norton ( in the 25 th Hour movie with his famous renouncing word ) to all clubs intersted ( barca Liverpool Tottenham arsenal Chelsea roma inter ) and stay at Leicester as new signings seems to have control on the ball and try to finish 7 th

I really hope we tell Arsene Wenger to go F@@k himself when he bids right near deadline day which you can see coming a mile off. Even if it is 50m at that time. He's had all summer.

Yeah I don't see Lemar going anywhere as Monaco have already stated multiple times they were not willing to let Lemar and Bakayoko leave in the same season 

 

Fully expect to see Arsenal put in a bid for him at some point after Fridays's game as there has been no point for them to do it any sooner

I know he hasn't got a brain and it's fashionable to criticise him, but Schlupp is worth £13 million. Helped keep Palace up and is a reasonable price for a high end championship/low end PL versatile player.

If they are going to put that bid in they will do it Thursday night or Friday morning. The point will be to get s player they want and also to play mind games with a player set to play against them

Unless you look at it as 'pissing off the club you want to buy from - getting 3 points and then offering £50m which you know they will accept' might work ?

Offer the right price and it won't make a difference if the clubs get on at all, plus they get the added extra of turning his head before the game, chances are I'm wrong and arsenal have spoken to his agent and put stuff in his mind anyway. He won't want to piss off a new employer

If Hes really that worried about Mahrez and knows that we will accept the offer then why not then just offer the 50 mill already and make him your player long before this

I guess cause a deal would probably take more than 3 days to go thru. so maybe just unease him and get the 3 points and then make the deal?

 

I dunno this is just my pessimistic thoughts and probably has no relevance at all.

Because he made it public that he wanted to leave which means they can play the waiting game and try and buy on the cheap, plus it's wenger who hates spending money and then chuck in the fact we are playing them first game, they would be foolish to chuck big money early on
