Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 You can blame his agent but Mahrez signs the contracts. He's had 2 new contracts in 3 years, he didn't have to sign them, he went for the money though. Now the money isn't enough, he wants more and CL football. People talk about him being humble, and quiet but he's far from that from what I hear, he's employing these agents so should take some of the flak as well in my opinion. I love him as a player but as a character I think he's suspect personally. You might say that's footballers nowadays but they're not all like that and we don't have that many in our squad. Look at Kasper as a comparison.
Ted Maul Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 I was highly critical of Mahrez's performances last season- his attitude was way off and he just wasn't at the races for 80% of it. However, he has been noting but a model pro since he released his statement. So much so that I'd actually like him to stay- he has put more effort into these friendlies than he did in the league in the second half of the season, and I think we would get a year of him doing everything he can on the pitch to get his big move next summer.

Almo-Fox Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 ‘Mahrez still a Leicester player’ By Football Italia staff Leicester City captain Wes Morgan understands Roma’s interest in his teammate Riyad Mahrez - “it's to be expected”. The Giallorossi are keen to sign the Algerian winger, and he’s admitted that he’d like to speak with them. However, a second offer of €35m has reportedly been rejected, and it was suggested today that the capital club had abandoned their pursuit of him. “It's to be expected that big clubs will be after our biggest name players,” Foxes captain Morgan told Sky Sports UK. “At the end of the day he is still with us. He is a still a Leicester player and that's all that matters. We can't think about what could happen or where he might go. “At the training ground we all train together and I have to say is his attitude has been great. “He hasn't shown that he is angry or that he is upset in any way or that his head is not in it. He comes in and he trains hard. “We expect players to come and players to go. [N'Golo] Kante went and there were no hard feelings there. We'd all love Riyad to stay, but who knows what will happen."
dannythefox Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 I bet Liverpool will bid for him if they sell coutinho.

Izzy Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 If he ultimately has to leave, I wouldn't mind it being to Liverpool. I'd rather it not another PL team, but I'd prefer Liverpool over Arsenal. I reckon the Kop would love him and Klopp would get the very best out of him again. He'd suit there style of play and be surrounded by other technically gifted players. Wouldn't be surprised if he then went on and even helped them win the league for the first time in donkeys years.

Liverpool fans would still believe it's Gerrard that won them the league.

Liverpool Jeez, no. The Kop already love him and he's already surrounded by technically gifted players. They ruined Heskey. Klopp is just a soft German and Liverpool will never win the Premier League
Wymsey Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 Can imagine him feeling somewhat guilty in publically accounting that he prefers to leave, after how the club has developed him into an excellent player, but to be fair to him - he's not throwing his toys out of the pram and appears actively keen during the recent training sessions. He's not being disrespectful, currently, over this. Hence, this situation isn't as awkward as it sounds; and it's up to Roma etc to stump up their offer to what he's valued at overall.

Sublime_Coatsworth Posted 7 August 2017 Posted 7 August 2017 According to the Italian press, Roma have moved on: http://www.premiumsporthd.it/serie-a/news/la-roma-mette-le-ali--2017_9121.shtml Good, fvckin cheapskates (bad) translation... The last offer of Roma was quite conspicuous: 30 million plus 5 bonuses for Riyad Mahrez, right-wing, 1991 class of Leicester. But the Foxes-built wall has remained intact: the Giallorossi have collected another no and so Monchi has decided to abandon the idea of bringing the Algerian to Italy. And it has matured another. Mahrez scored 17 goals in Premier Leicester's year-end, just six (but four in Champions) last season: too little to push Roma to raise the offer further. But at this point, other players will not be considered, unless further changes in the front. The slopes that lead to Lucas Vazquez and Cuadrado, in fact, seem misleading. The most likely hypothesis is that Di Francesco chose to advance Florenzi's range of action, bringing him back to the thrash of attack as a career start, having already Bruno Peres and Karsdorp as righteous thirds. When returning from the accident, the blue will have less defensive tasks: it does not have the quality of Mahrez, but certainly more substance, more runner and more inclined to sacrifice. Not only that: Defrel can also play on the right (as he sometimes did at Sassuolo when Berardi was injured) and the new Under purchase, to which Di Francesco wants to give confidence.
MC Prussian Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 Can I just say I find the Facebook arguments on the official LCFC page between Roma fans and the Mahrez lovers from Algeria rather amusing?

Callabinho Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 What scares me is we haven't even got a replacement.....(not that there is one at a reasonable price)....he will either leave or refuse to play for us...either way we won't have Mahrez in some capacity after the transfer window.....be it physically or mentally.....
SaporeDiMahrez Posted 8 August 2017 Posted 8 August 2017 23 hours ago, volpeazzurro said: Nailing my colours to the mast, ie my son and I are Leicester supporters first and then Roma, but I actually think that Roma have even worse problems than Leicester. With Rudiger, Salah, and Paredes sold and Manolas likely to go shortly, Roma have cashed in and have brought in the self same mere prospects you mention. Roma have cashed in and apart from the building of a new ground, as a club, show no ambition to build on their high place finishes in recent years. With the exception of perhaps Juventus, Serie A is now sadly a poor league. My view is that Mahrez will never go to Roma for several reasons. Firstly he and his agent are using Roma to elicit bids from richer and better teams. With the exception of a place in the Champions League (they won't be in it long, let's be honest), this is not a club that can offer Mahrez an ambitious future. Secondly, Roma are playing a cynical game in pretending to their fans they are interested in signing Mahrez. When in their history did they last sign a player for 40+ million pounds? If they got him, who have they now got who he could play with? Albeit Mahrez had a quiet last season, if Salah sold for £38million then surely the award winning Mahrez has got to be worth at least as much if not more, after all, how many good seasons has Salah had? In a country where £50 million has been paid for an only half decent fullback (Kyle Walker) and the same quoted for a set piece specialist called Siggurdson and a poor French league decent player named Lacazette, how on earth did Roma ever expect to get Mahrez for 20 , 25 or even 30 million? They are clearly not serious it's just noise to try and appease their Roma supporters who deserve better, they're being conned. Compared with Roma's poor transfer activity, thus far Leicester have signed a £25m quality striker, an experienced 3 times Europa League winning captain midfielder and a young proven Premiership centre half. I think Roma as a club have more to be worried about. They will finish high up in Serie A no doubt, but compared to the competition in the Premiership that's no great achievement. The major problem we have here in Roma is that half of our fanbase is delusional and expectations-driven. Since we've done relatively well in recent history (finishing 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd in our last 4 seasons) they expect the club to buy who knows who and finish first. Now, while I would agree to win should be our goal, it must be taken into account that Juve is there. Juve is Juve and their revenue more than doubles ours; still, supporters expect the club to reduce the gap? I don't understand how's that even possible. The club is trying to do their best to build a solid team, ready to take advantage of any opportunity Juve will eventually provide us. End of the day it's up to Juve, not us, to determine our future. Supporters don't get it. If we had finished with 70 points we could make the case the team was poor, but that has not been the case in recent history: we finished 2nd with 87 POINTS! and Juve first with more than 90... The team has played well and did what he had to do, but if Juve finishes with 90+ points is it really fair to blame the club for the lack of effort? Juve is simply better. Besides, we got people referring to our past ad if it was glorious... not realizing our past was never. The year after having won the scudetto with Batistuta (possibly a top 3 striker at the time) the club had declared bankruptcy almost. Under the regimen of the FFP that's simply something that cannot be done. Supporters don't realize Higuain is beyond our means; nonetheless, they expect the club to reduce the gap just because we've been finishing 2nd in recent history. To me, the club has indeed shown ambition and hasn't been selling smoke in ages, Proof is the attempt they're trying to make to build the stadium - basically the only way we can increase the revenue and challenge Juve. They've been trying for 4 years (original project was worth 4 times what Bayern has paid for their stadium) and nothing yet has happened because bureaucracy here is just ridiculous. When you hear bodies like LegaAmbiente complaining, claiming the Tiber's rats are a sacred species that would risk extinction if the stadium had to be built... you wonder if all this is for real. While in the meantme Juve has built their in no time. As for the transfer I honestly don't think Leicester has done a better job than Roma. You did great but our transfer hasn't been poor by any means.
