Grebfromgrebland Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 It would seem that we are no longer targeting a European spot anymore and are specifically targeting players who will achieve a mid table finish. Have our owners changed their objectives for this season? It would seem so judging by the players we are being linked with and the players which are rumoured to be leaving. I know no one has left yet but this could be a painful transfer window.
TiffToff88 Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 Vicente Iborra - Captain of the side that reached 3 successive Europa League finals Harry Maguire - Young hungry defender recently called up to the England squad Kelechi Iheanacho - One of the most prolific goalscorers in the premier league (Albeit limited game time) with limitless potential No major players sold - Yeah, you're right, we're just trying to keep our heads above the water. PANIC STATIONS EVERYONE!
brucey Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 no, we are targeting top half, a few of the players have mentioned it. but then again this never really was a serious question was it.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 pretty sure grebfromgrebland is an Unabomber second account

PANIC STATIONS EVERYONE! To be fair though, these are the sorts of signings I expect us to make. Iborra and Iheanacho were surplus to requirements and Maguire was at a Championship side. That doesn't mean they're bad signings, or that they aren't encouraging, but we clearly need more if we're serious about trying to punch above our weight (something every team should be trying to do). We're badly in need of at least one midfielder and at least one defender (I'd argue potentially 2 of each) and yet with 3 days of the window we're looking a little desperate.

Monsell1976 Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 Club our size, do we not aim 10th to 17th every season, forget the league win, this is pretty much where we are.
NewEnglandFox Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 The differences between 8th to 7th and 18th to 17th is far greater than the difference between 17th and 8th. Only being near the bottom comes with more panicking. I doubt we were ever targeting getting to Europe through the League in the first place. Bring on Liverpool. That's our first chance at Europe.

Livid Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 Iborra we've no idea if he,'ll take to this league, remember Inler? Iheanacho has been backed up by a team loaded with creative midfielders. It's going to be a whole new ball game for him here. Maguire looks the part but the jury is out on the other two for now. £40 million bid for Siggurdson and nothing, not a decent creative CM in sight. Even now we're being linked with players who just seem to be going elsewhere. Don't worry though lads there's still 50 odd hours until the window closes. 2 hours ago, Kitchandro said: To be fair though, these are the sorts of signings I expect us to make. Aus Fox Posted 29 August 2017 Posted 29 August 2017 You mean like the time we signed a Stoke reject CB, some mid table Japanese player and a Swiss bloke released by Shalke? Oh and don't forget a little French lad no one has heard of from some obscure French side. How will we ever survive?

Stadt Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Wasn't the actual Unabomber (not the dog loving FT poster) a terrorist? Yep, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Kaczynski
