AlloverthefloorYesNdidi Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 We have to hope that Silva comes in and bosses it. A lot of people saying that James isnt good enough - maybe he's not as good as we could have, but he is the best option to go with Ndidi until Silva and I think he has done well up to now. Thrown in the deep end first season back in the prem and doing a job
Fox 4 Life Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Obvious answer is Iborra until Silva gets clearance.
Claridge Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Any member of the human race who is not Andy King.
Guest Col city fan Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Again...ill get pelters from the usual suspects (ie nonsense) but it's in the midfield that we are just too basic. We lack creativity, goals, assists, anything much going forward from our current crop. I've said it's not good enough at this level and maintain it.
inckley fox Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Not sure Iborra will work in a two-man unit. It probably shouldn't be King or Amartey. The latter's got to focus on RB or CB. The former's got to focus on Wales and the u-23s, bless him. So that leaves James, playing Maguire in an advanced role, or any recall option we might have on a loanee. Which probably doesn't exist, and probably won't help. So do we go 4-3-3? Where does that leave Nacho? And who does the ACM role? I suppose the moral is, don't sell a key player before botching the replacement. It's stating the obvious, I know.

Unclenobhead Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Iborra/silva when get clearance. What a stupid question, close thread. The end
ZeGuy Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Right, we have so much options there... Amartey, obviously.
kingfox Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 Yeah let's all blame the midfield as usual. 4-3 loss against Arsenal 2-0 win against Brighton 2-0 loss to Man Utd 2-1 loss to Chelsea Those results are not a disgrace. Last season we were getting absolutely battered against the big teams, the games against Man Utd and Chelsea were a fvcking embarrassment, carving us open and picking us off at will. Already, the scoreline and performances against those sides have been much better this season. Ndidi and James have competed well enough, they haven't really been carved open or embarrassed. All this kneejerk and moaning about our midfield options in particular, having Iborra fit and Silva signed would of course be more ideal; however Ndidi, James and even King haven't disgraced themselves so far this season. Last season was 100 times worse, at least the midfield so far this season has shown a competitive side.
Grebfromgrebland Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 I think with the personnel we have unless Silva has an engine like Drinkwater then we need to go 3 in the middle. Ndidi, iborra and James. This is still pretty lame but hopefully we won't get overrun every single gamee in the middle of the park. Losing Drinkwater is a bigger loss than most realise. Not having Silva is a double kick in the nuts.

We rely too heavily on our wingers for creativity. Amartey, King and James arent the answers at all. Our players seem incapable of playing anything other than 442 it seems. I will say though the team that started today are more than good enough to beat most teans in the bottom half. We were up against top teans in our first four games.

Problem is that people don't realize how difficult it is to produce something when you're between two defenders and the touch line without any proper support from the midfield and/or the the full back. Drinkwater was that missing link when he was on form. No one can expect that from King or James (yet). We're set to lose against any quality team playing with three in the midfield. I would still go 4-4-2 until Iborra is fit though. It's the lesser evil.

Coleman understands his strengths and importantly limitations and reads the game tactically to fit him in for Wales where and when appropriate as we saw against Austria.
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 9 September 2017 Posted 9 September 2017 As soon as Silva gets clearance, Silva and Iborra should play.

Looking back at that game, I'm inclined to think you have a point.
