Both are terrible humans but Ian Watkins is the worst of the worst. I cannot bring myself to listen to that music any more

Maybe im just a little envious.

And then inset days just take the piss.

I have to pay around £140 per day for my kids to be looked after while I'm working...after the 6 week long (or two week long) holiday has finished. Why don't the teachers come in on the Friday before the first Monday to set everything up?

What problem do you have with inset days? I could understand if they were at random points, but ours at least are always at the end of the holidays (generally the first 2 days before children come back from the summer, and the first 2 days after the Christmas holiday), and the general public are probably not even aware that we're having inset days. I appreciate other schools may be different, but that's how it tends to work in Primary. The inset days aren't for setting up the classroom, they're to have important training (for example, safeguarding training, or the Government's lovely prevent scheme) which we wouldn't be able to do with the kids in school.

Which also leads to the bolded point, most teachers already do that. We're in on the 2 inset days before school starts, and every teacher will probably have at least 3 days at school in the holidays. I was in school for an entire week before the children came back, setting up displays, organising the classroom, etc. and I know most of my colleagues were there too.

But I can appreciate that the public perception of teachers is hard to break, because why would the general public know these things? All they tend to see is that teachers have long holidays, that their kids get to school at quarter-to-eight and are picked up at half three. They don't see things like the 2 hours it takes to write a school report (multiply that by 30...), the 90 books to mark a day, the weekends and holiday times spent planning, assessing, doing stupid shit like filling in risk assessments and countless pointless forms, organising school trips, running lunch time and after school clubs, the late staff meetings, the fact that I've yet to have more than a 5 minute lunch break so far this year.

If I'm honest, I thought it would be much easier, and that's partly why I ignored my families warnings and went into the profession; I thought it was all just exaggeration, that there would be nice holidays and short working days. If I'd known the shit-show that teaching is, I'd honestly never have become a teacher, because while I like working with kids, it's just not worth it. If I didn't have a mortgage to pay, I wouldn't be teaching.

I think it's natural to be envious though, grass is always greener and all that. I would absolutely love a 9 - 5 job (even a 7 - 6 job would do me at this point) where I could switch off when I got back from work, and have an entire weekend free. I've personally thought that on the face of it, people with desk jobs have it ridiculously easy, but I imagine that there's also probably a lot of stuff about most which I haven't considered.

(Again, sorry for the rant. I only intended it to be short, but it turns out that I'm a very bitter person lol )

I'd make a distinction between liking a bands music and liking the band themselves. I like burzums music, doesn't change that vargs is a colossal knob. Your reaction to music isn't logical, you don't get to decide whether you enjoy something or not - You can dislike what a band stands for or what they've done as people, but if it's catchy then that's irrelevant.

On the teachers having too much time off with holidays etc, i used to think that before i started working in a school environment, take it from me half of them are in at 6am in the morning and sometimes don't leave until 6pm! And 9 times out of 10, the majority of them are in over the half term/summer breaks.

offices need to ban smartphones and strongly limit and monitor internet use of employees. (Recent research shows that people spend more time now on personal actions than working - only 3h a day on work).

Sorry ...   Isn't this meant to be unpopular opinions ? ....

A number of countries would have been better off if colonialism lasted a bit longer (still going on). And the neo-colonialism that China is currently doing across Africa is much worse because it is subtly undermining the economy, politics and society, so no one is looking to 'fix' it.

Post WWII colonialism wasn't really that bad (aside from Portuguese colonies) as it wasn't as exploitive or repressive. Of course states/groups/races should have the right to self determination but as you say in Africa some countries could have done with the order that colonialism brought, similarly even now in India I think there's a small minority of elderly people wish the British were still in charge
