Probably, most definitely, an unpopular opinion but I have moments where I miss the very start of the lockdown too.

That first March/April/May in 2020, the weather was unbelievable. I used to come downstairs in the morning, turn the laptop on in the kitchen, make a nice coffee with the backdoor open letting in a nice little breeze as the sun was shining. No rush to get ready for work, getting the kids ready and the usual morning rush before work. It was kind of like you were safe in your own little bubble and it was lovely for those first few months.

I was thinking the same thing this morning as I'm working from home due to the tube strikes. April and May was rather blissful at times. Cycling through locked-down central London in the sunshine is a particularly wonderful memory.

Then I remember the fact people were stopped from seeing their loved ones even on their deathbeds; the large fines for people inadvertently breaking rules that shouldn't have been in place; and the lurid headlines and angry social media posts about 'selfish', dangerous people going the beach accompanied with photos taken on zoom lenses.

I much prefer self service in supermarkets.

I nearly put a post in the grind gears thread a couple of weeks ago as I got increasingly sick of reading old fuddys who can't handle self checkouts. Constantly railing against them as if they're the antichrist when in fact they're efficient and the technology for detecting items etc is going to, if not already, much better than originally. There's nothing wrong with wanting a person to do it but the constant moaning from oldies who hate it.

All the supermarkets need to do is put more staff on to keep up with demand. ASDA Fosse Park has loads now and they're brilliant, whether scan and go, trolley shop or basket, but if I want my alcohol checking approved I can wait ages at peak times.

That whole period is absolutely crazy. There seemed to be a two week period where the country came together in unity, before the bickering and fracturing started. Like others I detach the great bits of lockdown - the fluky amazing weather, the lunchtime walks, the time at home and adjusting to a wfh scenario. Going for drives on a Sunday morning and enjoying the cheap petrol and dead roads. It felt awesome. There was even the period in the summer when the pubs opened and it felt like an event to go out for a drink/food. It was all so surreal, unique... enjoyable?

But then there's all the stuff mentioned above which was horrifying for so many families, the politicians being dicks, clapping nonsense, dividing communities (such as in Leicester/shire with that covid border they bought in briefly.) One thing is for sure, that early period of lockdown will never happen again. So many people will reject that kind of restriction on them, no matter how bad the pandemic is.

Buying your kid an Apple product as their first mobile phone.

Why give them a taste for and expectation of the most expensive brand there is?

Give them an old Motorola. Teach them how we all started.

Mostly hand me downs I expect.  Why would I buy a new phone when I’ve got an perfectly decent iPhone 7 in the drawer?

Hard right berks (polite term for them) calling anyone who disagrees Marxist / Communist / Liberal / Woke etc like a f**ing two year old on auto repeat. Using terms they really don't understand as an attempt at an insult and pretending it's somehow a winning argument.

Equally the other side calling anyone who disagrees with them a nazi / far right / hard right berks.  Adds nothing to the argument.

You do understand that some people are hard right berks though, don't you? And that all you might have just done was create a false equivalence because you might have taken offence for no reason, at a comment that wasn't about you or aimed at you?

Just realised though I need to apologise - I'm in the wrong thread with this, it should be in 'What Grinds my Gears' thread.

No offence taken at all, I am absolutely nowhere near the far right, not even as far right as the Conservative party seems to have gone :)

Yes, and there are no doubt also Marxist / Communist / Liberal  types too!

Of course - but I would suggest that calling someone a hard right berk is very different to the other options you suggested, which I carefully avoided.

Some, and also some reconditioned older models which have never made sense to me as the specs compared to new cheapo phones are crap and you don't get much of a warranty. But even these now seem to be being replaced with relatively current ones on contract. These kids are 11

That’s very sad.

Each to their own, of course, but I had to say goodbye to my big blond Lab a week before Christmas. He was 12 and had cancer, so it had to be done, but I think about him every day, and probably always will.

He wouldn’t have regarded you as a knobhead, because he gave unconditional love and affection to everyone he met. If they didn’t like him for some reason, he’d just walk away, because there was always someone else who needed a bit of affection.

Like you say each to their own, it was just a bit of fun👍

I miss parts of the covid lockdown.

Slowly the world Is losing some of the better enhancements (in my eyes) that we gained.

Social distancing

Travelling hours for a meeting, that could have been done virtually

My work / life balance impacting “family time”. I didn’t even get furloughed as I’m business critical. However we now have less staff doing more 🤷🏼‍♂️

…… maybe I just need a new job :D

Some places have kept a lot of the work/life balance aspects. But as you say, a lot have almost done the reverse.

I'm just leaving my job working with Covid and the 4 on 4 off shift pattern for that has mostly dictated my life for 2 years. I'm moving into a job with around 2 days in the office a week.

Comic Relief night TV is an atrocity. It's a good cause and all, but it's all a massive cringefest. All seems very insincere to me.

Naming rights for football grounds, club badges and kits should be protected for fans to decide what they are/look like. I get so irked when I see someone plays at the Gtech University of East Anglia Carpet Right Stadium.

Paying for a service, I've no issue with that. Especially one that's keeping a part of me healthy.
