life is tough, mate. the virtual currency market isn't doing good. one day you're throwing food away, the next day you find yourself scraping the bottom of a nutella jar! i had to hire a kid to do that, do you know how difficult it is to do that, do you know how expensive hiring a kid to do that is? because i don't, we had to split the chocolat 50/50

I wonder if we were quite happy to move him out as we didn't seem to fight that hard to keep him as we did with Vardy and Mahrez.  We had James returning, Ibbora, Ndidi and the opportunity to sign silva, then added to this his long niggling injury, maybe the club felt he was no longer a guaranteed first team starter and when the opportunity arose in the shape of chelsea and 35m they thought thank you very much.

Not sure James would have been a factor given his injury record. Iborra a sign of a new direction yes but Silva was a reaction to Danny moving away.

 

Whatever it was it's worked out well.

 

His form dipped at the end of last season yes but he was almost the only one to show any form from August to December 2016.

 

A bit unfortunate it hasn't gone well for him but we've coped since hes left.from midfield up himself and okazaki looked under most threat going into the season.

 

I'd I was to take losing any player Danny would be the one as good a servant as he was for us.

2016 we did but in August it was only in the last 2 days before the transfer window closed we took an interest again.

I was very much pro selling him for £35m.

 

He was outstanding for us for 18 months but the last six months he was here he was really poor and there was rumours he was carrying an injury with his hip that he couldn't shake off. With the performances he'd put in since Nov 2016 and the injury rumours I wanted him sold for that kind of money. There was always a big doubt if he was ever going to return to the player he was and the truth of the matter is it wasn't that long a go since Cambiasso and James kept him out the side so it's not like he'd been a top player for years and there's always doubts when your late 20's and only had a couple of seasons at top level.

 

I thought he was at peak value at £35m and if you sell players when they hit their peak value you won't go too far wrong. It was also a good excuse to ship out some title winners as the group had gone a bit stale and a chance to inject new blood and freshen up the squad.

they've not had the greatest record of buying english midfielders who have been great the season before.

I do like Drinky but have zero sympathy. Though I will admit it would frustrate me if we tried to bring him back, we've moved on well in that department.

Parker went there when they had Makelele though. And then I'm pretty sure he suffered a bad injury.

He's been pretty poor since that back pass against West Brom at home last season under Ranieri. Fair play to him for backing himself at one of the big boys after it didn't work at United but he does seem to have fallen into the Joe Allen / Steve Sidwell / Scott Parker bracket of being steady but just not quite good enough to be a first team regular at a massive club, less so one with the size of Chelsea's squad.

It's amazing how far some players get on the reputation of 1 or 2 good years. The Champions League/Europa League is full of players whom have done nothing for their entire careers aside from one or two purple patches. He could still come good but his performance yesterday and in their game vs Watford in particular were appalling, particularly for a top 4/5 side.

Actually thought Drinkwater did ok in the recent games I've seen him play. I feel for him because I'm sure he backed himself to be a success there but it was never going to work out. It'll be interesting to see if we make a little bid in the summer.

That's without even referencing the fact that arguably the star player for three of their rivals (Lukaku at United, KDB at City and Salah at Liverpool) were jettisoned by them. Crazy.
