Quite often he was our best player even when we were completely dysfunctional at times. I'd have him back in a heartbeat but struggle to see how he'd fit in. I think there's an element of recency bias with a lot of people because his final season with us he wasn't the best but he carried us until December, it's no coincidence we were awful as a team when he hit poor form.

Drinky was arguably my favourite player when he was here, but times move on and I wouldn't want him back, purely because I think we're well stocked in the middle of the park now. Wilf is on the way to being a world class midfielder, Silva looks quality, Iborra and James are both having decent seasons.

It was sad to see Drinkwater go, hope it works out for him. But he will probably be playing at a mid table club next season.

 

Personally i wouldn't take him back here, I'm actually excited with our new midfield options and the direction it's going.

Obviosly there is the money incentive as Chelsea probably doubled his wages, maybe he was under the impression that he would be having more of an influence on the starting 11 at Chelsea than he is currently having.

I think he saw how useless Shakespeare was and wanted out. Bet he regrets it now with Puel.

Any ill feeling with Drinkwater is down to the fact that he moved to a 'bigger' club. 

 

Dont have any negativity towards him.We have moved on without him thankfully.

 

Understandable for monetary gain but from a football perspective what was he thinking?

 

Barkley signing and playing Wednesday doesn't bode well for Danny boy.

Drinkwater at his best was the best English midfielder by a mile. Unfortunately he's been inconsistent all his career and is the very definition of a confidence player.

 

Funnily enough I'm less bitter about him leaving than Kante, as by then we were already seriously on the slide and had lost our status and ambition.

 

Kante left when we were giving him everything he could want. League title, international recognition, a massive reputation, European football and a genuinely promising future. If he hadn't left I really feel we'd have continued going in the right direction, but his departure started a domino effect we never recovered from, and almost overnight we became just like everyone else again.

 

But he was only bothered about the name 'Chelsea FC', who weren't even in Europe. And considering I both despise Chelsea and don't think they are one of the biggest clubs in England, certainly not in a traditional sense, it really left a bad taste in the mouth.

Kante leaving did hurt more because at the time it felt like our progress was just shunted in an instant. A sad reality that no matter what you do or don't achieve, you can't truly build anything unless you have a ridiculous backing.

Kanté is a genuinely world class player that gave us no less than 8/10 every time he was on the pitch. We would have just held him back. He deserves that move. I doubt I'll see a better player at the club.

 

I will be shocked if he's not at Barca, Real or Man City in a season or two.

Doubt he will make the England squad.  Wheelchair will be ahead of him.

I'm not saying this out of bitterness but selling him for £35m was a brilliant piece of business. He's good but not great. I think if we'd kept him longer his value would have dipped further.

Just watched the Chelsea v Newcastle game and shocked to see how drinkwater has deteriorated. His confidence looks shattered, seems completely lost. I know he's not a Leicester player anymore but sad to see as he's a city legend.
