This is such a difficult situation but I do think that he is most likely suffering from some mental issues now and the longer it goes on the worse it could get.

I hope the club are in contact with him now and trying to support him and help him come to terms with this situation he finds himself in. Anyone who has dug themselves a hole will know what I mean by that and he is probably feeling sad, confused, highly embarrassed and anxious.

Just because he's massively rich and plays premier league football doesn't mean that he can't be depressed.

As fans we should support him so that he feels he can come back and play for the remainder of the season.

I also feel the club could keep us informed and give us an update.

Give it a couple of a years mate and there will be an update on the official site.

Saw this in relation to something else on Facebook. Thought it would be appropriate when we do sell Mahrez at the end of the season (particularly if he continues to refuse to play for is again)

this needs to be nipped in the bud sooner rather than later. he has already cost us 5 points as i think with him we win both of our last 2 games.he either needs to be fined all his wages or give him a buy out clause and leave him on the side line for the remainder of the season. this has the potential to derail the rest of our season if it goes much longer.

I appreciate what you are saying but i'm afraid i'm big on loyalty and he had his one chance with me last summer camped out at an Airport. This is second time now and he can go F**k himself.

Of course and that is up to you, but I will always try and support a player while he plays for this club. I will hope for the best for this club and if that means Mahrez playing for us and scoring the goals that bring me so much joy, then I don't want it tainted by any anger due to circumstances I don't fully understand and that I will never know the real truth behind. If Leicester are happy for him to play, I want him to play, if he scores I will celebrate like I always have done. I will never boo him, or jeer or get angry because I'm not directly involved, all I want is to see Leicester win games and score goals and that is what Mahrez brings to the team.

I think the club have handled this poorly from a PR point of view, (as has Mahrez, but that is pretty obvious) there needed to be a clear statement from the club about what is happening. We should be in damage limitation mode at the moment, we have a prize asset that we are in danger of losing and we are allowing the press to print any old garbage. You read articles on the BBC they state that it is unclear if he has been given permission to miss training. So make it clear, even if it is bollocks, release a statement saying that "Mahrez has been allowed some time off to get his head together." This takes the pressure off the club and Mahrez and opens the way for reconciliation. At the moment it feels like we are selling him down the river to be ripped apart in the press and hated by the fans. It makes no sense. If we don't resolve this we both lose out. I get that we don't like to conduct our business in public, but all that does is allow lies to printed without come back.

We should have made it clear from the start we are in contact with Mahrez/Mahrez's people, we have given him permission to take some time off and we will support him when he comes back into the team (which the players and Puel have said, but not the club).

I'm interested to garner opinion on how clubs manage this sort of situation. Does the club captain pop round and informally talk man to man with him. Do they send his best mate in the squad? Or is it done from higher up the food chain i.e Puel or the Thais? Surely these latter two (manager/owner) are the parties he's most pissed off with.

Or is it all done through intermediaries i.e agents/lawyers?

Surely to God just send Shinji round to put a smile on his face and tell him to grow up.

Speaking to people within the club on Saturday, I got the impression that the owners control what is or isn’t said about stuff like this and they don’t really appreciate the media side of things over here

so whilst the media guys would like to take control, they aren’t allowed to without express instructions from higher up

You're a better person than me then. I couldn't care less if he plays again for us or not really, i guess if he does it's because he's got his shit back together, and reassembled the toys in his pram. If he scored then i'd celebrate as ever, but never again will i cheer his name when it's announced, or chant his song. I know that there aren't any 'local boys made good' leicester fans playing in our first team, they're all pro's doing it for the love of money, but he really has nailed his colours to the mast, he doesn't want to be here anymore. No player is bigger than the club, so for me he can go. Sadly he's very much tarnished his status, i don't feel the same in the case of Kante, i will love him forever. With DD i'm like... whatever, had he gone and been replaced without the 14 seconds delay then that would have been ok too. But i see no excuse for this behaviour, i don't think he can be depressed, not in the true sense of the word, he's just being petulant and misguided and the sooner he's gone now the better.

That makes sense, but it is not good for the club or Mahrez in this case.

The problem is we know nothing more than the press stirring, any comments from players and Puel have been that they aren't angry with him and he will be welcomed back.

We don't even know if he is "on strike" or the club have allowed him time off, because they aren't saying anything. Until there is an official statement from at  least one of the parties concerned I'm not going to turn on a player based on unsubstantiated shite written to sell newspapers.

"Depressed"?  Look in the Depression thread under the General Chat section to see what depression is really about.

Don't know what all the fuss is about ! Let him go for 30mil and get on with it.

I have better things to do like doing up an neglected Porsche I picked up for 3000 quid.

Cleaned and tuned the engine, new full interior, gearbox etc.

2 enjoyable but laborious years it took, and as soon as the rust is sorted on the bodywork and had a re-spray gonna sell it to a guy who says it's worth 3010 quid.

Or stick it in the garage and look at it once in a while.
