Plans by Leicester City FC to more than double the size of their club shop at the King Power Stadium have been approved.

The Premier League side revealed the proposals recently and the green light has now been given by Leicester City Council.

Under the scheme, the floor space will increase 4,101 sq ft to 9,149 sq ft and refurbish the shop.

The store is set to be temporarily closed while the work is carried out.

Finally.

Feels like forever we've been saying on here "swap the family stand and The Kop for an absolutely enormous, refurbished club shop"

Jeez! Do we really have that many variations of a hat and scarf to fill that kind of footprint?!??

They need a large padded area to put everyone with away shirt induced epilepsy.

To be fair the lack of choice when it comes to scarf designs has been pretty shoddy for a while. They seem to bring out one new one a year, if that.

Like you say, not sure it warrants such a massive expansion anyway.

Need room for all the half n'half scarves they're going to stock.

Anybody know what the blue circle represents?.

The LCFC Pity Hole Of Shame.

Nah, in all honesty, Liam on this page alluded to a digital advertising board, so it's going to be something to attract the masses from afar.

Do you think it’s because ‘Wolverhampton Wanderers’ got promoted and they will be excessively long??

Well, maybe we're going in the "Alireza Jahanbakhsh LCFC Fanclub" direction instead.

Merchandise area 51 (cups, saucers).  You are advised to keep pets and children well away from the green circle.

I imagine this is very much on the advice of Adidas. There will be no end of teamwear/boots/balls etc and I wouldn't be surprised if they helped run the shop. It's often the way now with kit manufacturer deals.

Bigger club shop = more club tat = bigger concourse sale at the end of the season to flog the overpriced stuff they thought people would buy.

Would make long-term sense to have a much expanded club shop, however, if you were planning on more people being in and around the ground on a matchday if you were intending to expand the stadium...

Would seem a bit putting the cart before the horse though wouldn't it?

This seems to indicate the corner of the West Stand housing the new upgraded store won't be forming part of the design plans for the stadium expansion.

I think we can pretty confidently say the West Stand won't be the site of expansion. The glass, the offices, restaurant make it awkward. Far fewer obstacles elsewhere. It'll be the East Stand, I'm sure.

Also looks like club are installing digital advertising at the side of the Holiday Inn

That’s nothing to do with the club it’s a company that want leicester to be the first in having a smart hubs dotted around the city

If it goes ahead apparently it will offer free local phone calls, free WiFi, it will improve cell reception in the area, it will have charging facilities for mobiles and will also be fitted with a defibrillator

It's understandable posting this for fans' information on an online forum, but can't help but think the club could be slightly annoyed in a third-party disclosing such developments openly and mat have preferred it if it was private and they reveal the developments themselves?

That's a public document lifted from council website. Anyone can see it. Under the planning portal. The designs for the training ground etc will also be available for anyone to see if you know how to look once it's submitted.
