Diabate - What should we do?

His preseason ruined his chance to be involved early season. I was quite hopeful of him after he signed, I really liked his movement, willingness to get involved and the was he always tried to make things happen. Coming from the bench he caused teams problems, it was just his final ball that was missing, there was something there though. He struggled when asked to start games, but that's not unusual for raw young players.

Preseason he was shocking and looked a mile off, not sure what happened to him over the summer, but the promise I saw last season had vanished. Perhaps he got involved too early and started thinking he had made it, perhaps he took the foot off the gas over the summer.

He was a punt on a raw talent, if he doesn't make it then it's not the end of the world.

Thankfully he is young enough...young players like him and Gray, have yo-yo dips and high in form,I expect also that Maddison like all

Players, will not always have their shining stars, continually shining bright....I

Diabate, may still behind those other 2 mentioned, but  he has 1 maybe 3 seasons, before one should expect top PL maturity.

Even Gray isn't there yet...and he has familiarity-background on his side, where as Diabate,is still a kid along way from home!!!

The fact we have seen the occasional spark means the potential is there...Even by Christmas we might see some return from the

Investment. He's just 22 so this season at least he has Carte Blanche.!!

That's what makes Albrighton our ace in the hole, flexable, never complains, can fill 1-3 tactical positions, and for me a top,

1st team-bench player, with legend status clipped on his side!!!  Awaiting for Ghezzi,Gray,Diabate to claim his mantel and throne.

Next to Nacho, waiting a young 3rd striker, that can push Vardy out of the limelight....and that even in 2-3 seasons could be hard.

We found and discovered a Peach, and Mr Leicester...with Jamie. So we can't be so hard on  expectations of would be young-guns.

Nacho running into 3rd season,is just starting to slap leather, even looking around the PL, it's taking time and patience to find

1 top striker,let alone 2.

Jesus,we hit the jackpot with Maddison, believing only a super million foreigner could fill that void,we were Missing for 3 seasons!!!

Then defence, only now just balancing and hopefully going up that notch in the replacements for Huth.Morgan,Fuchs, and my hero

Bad boy Simpson...the most underrated player next to Albrighton on this forum...

So Diabate, like Gray still  deserves a bit more time....their silky skills need more maintenance...and patience

Pointless contribution to this thread, but I was stood next to Diabate's cousin at Wolves on Tuesday.

Does she have the same hair style as Diabate?

did you get a little bit starstruck?

Haha, I was three sheets to the wind, so feeling brave actually accused him of talking crap. He was happy to prove he was actually his cousin though lol.

He did not, sadly.

Defo regressed from early expectations for some reason or other. Plenty of time for improvement.

It’s shocking isn’t it, scores 2 V a League 1 team and it turns out he isn’t actually the next Messi. I don’t get it.

It took a while for Vardy to come good. He had raw talent too, it just needed channelling and some refinement.

Far too early to call time on Diabate.  From what I've seen, he's worth spending some time on.

For every one Vardy there are a 100 Kapustkas

He was fortunate to be scouted/recommended by puels son.

plays a bit like a headless chicken

some nice touches and skills but no end product apart from Peterborough game

…..and you don't get to play at this level unless you progress.

In the u23s he looked like a promising player who could get into the first team if he works hard - I'd put Josh Knight, possibly Ndukwu and Hamza ahead of him. To be honest, he should be shining in the u23s and isn't currently. Hopefully he finds some form.

Something has gone wrong for the lad, hasn't it :dunno:

I have no inside knowledge but you have to wonder if he has off-field personal issues. Pining for home ??

wouldnt be surprised if he was a star on loan in the second half of the season in the championship.  we already have Benkovic and Barnes to come back, and hopefully Diabate can light up the championship. Clubs improved so much! Leicester have never had a quality second team in the time ive supported them but the line up away at wolves didnt look any weaker than the first team tbh

There’s been some bizarre business at the club over the last year or two.

Offloading Tom Lawrence and signing Diabate (and Ghezzal) looks strange to me. I’m assuming it’s the French connection.

Ghezzal has only been here for 5 minutes.

Reckon there's more to come from him, in particular.

Aside from the Peterborough game, he's not really impressed has he?

I'm unconvinced he'll ever be good enough but I'd send him out on loan and see if that helps his development.

No, I'd be amazed

He knows he needs to step up quite soon.

Have a feeling he'll score a few and make a decent number of assists, if he knuckles down; personally don't think he's at his best at the moment and possibly low on confidence trying to settle in.

I don’t mean to bash Ghezzal and will obviously give him a chance but he looks extremely limited at this level.

trouble is he can only cut inside which is easy to defend against and he has no pace whatsoever.

There's definitely potential there. I thought he did well when he signed, particularly off the bench where he looked sharp. However, as others have eluded to, he had a pretty ropey pre season and lost his way. Personally I'd like to see him on the bench and get a few minutes but if he's not featured much before January then I'd get Barnes back and loan diabate out to the championship. For the fans criticising ghezzal, give him a chance. Whilst he's pulled up no trees, he's hardly been poor
