Diabate - What should we do?

Recommended Posts

It's pre-season. Wouldn't look into it with any great detail.

He might even feel/know he is part of the plans, so is doing the hard work in training and trying to make sure he avoids injury in the friendly games.

If he is below par once the season kicks off and shows no promise whatsoever, then it won't be a great loss to bin him. Think we paid less than £2m for him?

….need to take more responsibility with the ball!

Gives the ball away with over- elaborate flicks wasting the hard earned possession gained by his team-mates. His mind appears to have made the move, before he has collected the ball. His only good contribution was when he collected the ball and played it simply.

The good thing about the youthful squad is that they are all feeding off each other and Maddison's attitude appears to be the catalyst for this.

A good example of this is N’dukwu who looks like he could become the player that some people believe he could be. His attempted lob was audacious and shows a player who has now started to believe in himself again.

Jesus, some people just cannot help finding fault with our players can they?

He's skillful, and as others have said in this thread he tries things no-one else does - that's why he loses the ball. He's not hoofing it to the opposition or getting hounded in possession, he's driving forward and trying to make things happen.

Still got plenty to learn as he's raw, and was playing in the French lower leagues not long ago (!), but he's exactly the kind of player Puel can mold. He'll be an impact sub this season until he develops further. We just need another immediate first team winger.

I like him, sure he we be a very good player for us. Though better as an impact sub. His final ball does let him down at times.

We all know we could do with another wide player, I'm sure the club are trying. But let not write diabate yer.

Give the lad time to develop. He's got all the qualities to be a top player but clearly hasn't had the benefit of top level coaching up until now, so will need to learn a lot to fulfil his potential.

In terms of where he's at currently he reminds me a lot of Zaha when we he broke onto the scene. Bags of pace, ability, and tricks, but lacking the decision making and finishing capabilities to really impact a game. I realise Diabate is later into his development than Zaha was at that time so Diabate doesn't have that going for him but I definitely think he can become a decent player with a bit of patience.

He’s young... still learning... someone will be telling him to play simple more often then trying something fancy all the time. Almost feels like he’s trying to hard to be Mahrez replacement. I think it’s Gray who needs to step up this season, he’s had plenty of time

Where is he? Injured? Or a Puel flop signing?

Whats the full sp people?

A player that was dropped in at the deep end after we signed him. Had a very good debut against a lower league team which excited the majority of us but not done know much since. There’s a good player in there but still a lot to learn.

His debut heaped a reasonable amount of pressure, when he’s not actually all that good. He could still come good but looks like he was about worth the ~£3m we paid for him.

Never saw anything in him and he obviously hasn't progressed enough to persuade Puel. Send him out on loan.

He's young ..Gray is injured..This guy was never going to seen as an instant success..He has potential...but still

Needs time..He'll be playing in and around the first team..keep him here

He was a development squad signing that got a few cracks at the Prem last season while we were working out an immediate post-Mahrez plan, realised he's not it and is back in the development squad as planned. Not sure how that makes him a flop...

Love the way how fans talk about a player.

When he first joined it was mentioned he was for the development squad, he was a gamble on a player still learning.

Hes nearly played as many games for Leicester (14) as he’s played for Ajaccio (18)

He was bought as a prospect and he's learning his trade. Why yet again is there all this vitreol for one of our young players, I really don't get it? Did people really think that from where he came at the price he was purchased that he was going to be the next messiah within a few weeks? Really? Give the boy a break. Not only a new club but a new country. These lads aren't robots or images on a games console.

.... watched him in the under 23's and he looks totally hopeless!

He appears to have decided what he wants to do before he receives the ball and totally over runs and fails to control the ball when it gets to him, therefore our forward play breaks down.

This I suspect is down to coaching and someone really need to take him to one side and tell him to keep it simple. Gray, for example has not developed as much as he should have and only this season seems to have come to understand the need to defend and be part of team.

A good coach is a great asset to the club and Alex Ferguson had to go abroad to get the best coach in order to get to the next level.

Two points for me:

1. I hadn’t said he was a flop, I was asking a question regarding what’s happened to him and whether he was now being considered a flop?

2. People said pretty much the same about Kaputska. Almost word for word in some cases.

Stop being so defensive. I’m merely asking a question about where he is and why he’s dropped out of favour? A question hinted upon by others in other threads.

Diabetes for me is a squad player. As is Amartey, as is Evans, as is Wes. We have other players which I’d obviously not be starting but there are times when in certain matches they bring a particular quality, like say Iborra, Mendy, Silva, Okazaki.

He was always a gamble and a cheap gamble at that.  Can't complain, I'm alittle disappointed, cus he offered something different but looks like his confidence is shot

Yes that is down to Mahrez,he told him if he wanted an idea of how is getting on to go on Foxestalk and read the comments!

His preseason ruined his chance to be involved early season. I was quite hopeful of him after he signed, I really liked his movement, willingness to get involved and the was he always tried to make things happen. Coming from the bench he caused teams problems, it was just his final ball that was missing, there was something there though. He struggled when asked to start games, but that's not unusual for raw young players.

Preseason he was shocking and looked a mile off, not sure what happened to him over the summer, but the promise I saw last season had vanished. Perhaps he got involved too early and started thinking he had made it, perhaps he took the foot off the gas over the summer.

He was a punt on a raw talent, if he doesn't make it then it's not the end of the world.

It took a while for Vardy to come good. He had raw talent too, it just needed channelling and some refinement.

Far too early to call time on Diabate.  From what I've seen, he's worth spending some time on.
