Diabate - What should we do?

Imo probably one of the most naturally gifted players we have. His movements and reading of the game is beyond most players we have even at such a young age. Obviously not the finished article but to even think about selling him is crazy. The championship will ruin him. Can't understand the negativity around him... All ostriches

Are you feeling alright?

Thing is we’re sometimes a bit hasty with these players development. We offloaded Knocky when perhaps we shouldn’t. He is doing okay at Brighton.

Thinking back the last 2 seasons and Chilwell came in for a lot of stick on here, myself included.

Now look!!

Looks to be another player that initially looked decent only to fade into obscurity, I'd actually forgotten about him until seeing this thread again.

He hasn’t featured in the last couple of u23 games. Clutching at straws but maybe he’s impressed in training and will make the bench for the first team whilst Gray is out injured.

We’re certainly short on wingers at the moment.

Gray has been out injured and he';s not made the bench, Gray will start full training this week, Diabate just isn't that good yet, great debut Vs a League 1 side but done nothing since

I’m pretty sure we offered Knocky a new contract but he declined it. At the time his dad was very ill and he wanted to go home to support his family.

He came back once he’d done what he needed to do for them. Shows what kind of a person he is. Fair play to him.

As far as I’m aware, It didn’t have anything to do with our development policy.

Rather weirdly, he's living in the house that Mendy used to live in.

Maybe that house has some kind of footballing curse?

I think he’s got genuine potential. Done some lovely things besides his debut. That said, he’s not going to be progressing much without playing first team football. Surely Barnes is the ideal example of what to do next.

Indeed, living there could be a grave mistake

We don't have to sell and we wouldn't get much in return, rather see him loaned out to lower divisions and see if we can increase his value

As much as I hate this Chelsea-esque approach in modern football, it sadly makes sense.

If he does better than expected then we keep him.

No wonder he's playing with the stiffs.

A shame that he's been frozen out for months from the squad.

Do hope Rodgers, especially with his good record with developing young talent, improves him and eventually consider him back to playing some part again for the club in the future; as feel he has something that a forward needs and also as Iheanacho has hardly fired on all cylinders since joining.

He hasn't been frozen out. He's on loan to a Turkish side

I know, but even with his record there currently (no goals yet, albeit only 8 games according to Wiki), LCFC may be concerned that he's not making any impact/improvement still.

With the likes of Barnes and Gray stepping up (very similar age and also playing style) playing regular first-team matches for the club, it may well be that the club might start to believe that he won't make it at the club like these two have already done.
