This is the Cup Winner's Cup all over again surely?

I think this can be detrimental especially to a club like Leicester because we'd be part of this competition this season if it was running for sure. I love European football, but I mean proper European football. Atletico Madrid, Red Star, Porto, Sevilla and the really big clubs who sadly we didn't get to face in 2016/17. The Europa league is decent enough, but only when you get to the knockout stages.

I suppose in some ways it's a good way to give young players more opportunities but in reality I think this will just add more games that fans aren't interested in.

It'll be great for teams in smaller leagues to grab attention (for themselves and players) and increase their revenues. But for teams in the Prem and other top leagues, if you're just outside the qualification places to the "big time" do you want to be jetting around Europe playing in places with infrastructure similar to Championship level? I mean that with no disrespect, but it seems to be just a money grab.

All member associations will have access to the three club competitions and all associations will keep

the same overall access quota as currently.

What does this mean, it seems to imply that this will not mean more teams than currently allocated.

So countries not currently getting euro football plus team or teams take from current qualifying quotas as it seems to suggest the Europa League will stripped down in size.

I think it's more so for the likes of Kosovan, Andorran, Liechtensteiner and Gibraltarian clubs so they actually play in Europe rather than lose in the Europa League qualifying rounds, if that's the case it's definitely a good thing

Took the words right out of my mouth! That's what it seems like to me. And it's why the old cup competitions were reformed, because all the top teams just used it to field subpar teams making for low attendances.

It would be a great experience and all, but competing on 4 fronts? Very few teams have a squad capable to cope with that.

Think it’s a good idea and a decent size, but why not just 64 teams but knockout stages all the way (like European competitions of old)?

Think there would still be plenty of tv opportunity there and the televised games would be moe interesting as they are knock out matches.

There would less games and less travelling between the domestic fixtures (so it doesn’t knacker the mid table

sides) and then instead of the Europa league being the prize, make it the last qualifying round/automatic group stage of the Champions League for the winners.

Also make sure that the champions league/europa league cannnot drop down to the new European competition and sneak in.

This. A 64 team straight two legged knockout unseeded draw

Very much this.

I was open to the idea until I read  that the teams who finish third in the Europa League drop into the EL2.

This is one of the things that devalues the Europa League, you can be one of the favourites to win it then suddenly Real Madrid or Bayern Munich drop in and the whole landscape of the competition changes. If anything it makes the Europa League even more pointless.

What is the point of having a shitty competition that the shitty teams then drop into an even shittier competition. You qualify for the Europa League or EL2, but those competitions will most likely be won by a team that didn't qualify for it. If you qualify the EL your best chance of winning a european trophy is not take it seriously to start with, drop down a competition then win the EL2.

It's like being a team in the championship and half way through the season Newcastle, Burnley and Fulham drop in and win Promotion back to the Premier League.

I agree teams shouldn't drop down into it but the Europa League is not a shitty competition

It is a shitty competition, because teams from the Champions League drop into it, that and the ridiculously long qualifying process which the EL2 does go some way to address.

Take out the Champions League drop outs and I would not call the Europa League a shitty competition, I used to avidly follow both the UEFA cup and the Cup Winners Cup, but the Europa league is a bloated competition and even though the Champions League spot would be a good prize, if it was not skewed so that the teams with the best chance of winning it will most likely to already have a champions league spot.

It feels like UEFA have gone out of their way to devalue the competition, and this just devalues it further.

Hope Sky won't be the only company to broadcast many of the games.

Sky do not broadcast any european games.

So you don't want to finish top four and get a champions league spot.

Just bring back the Cup Winners Cup.

That would be a waste of time too.  In the last 20 years only two clubs (Wigan and Portsmouth) have won the cup that have not finished in Champions League places making in it almost entirely redundant.

Totally agree. But rather than this UEFA money grabbing nonsense, i'd rather just City organised pre-season friendlies in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kosovo, Israel, Afghanistan, Chad, Jupiter and Mars. Would be loads of fun and not disrupt the league.

I'm sure they will, considering it seems that at the moment they want to take as much broadcasting on many games as they can away from others rivals' grasp, though.

Dilly Ding Dilly Dong

Anyone who stays in the Premier League is going on a European Tour.

Let's have it right the Europa league is pretty shite. Infact the Champions league hardly does as it says on the tin.

I know we aren't gonna shift that. But maybe a cup winners cup as we used to have with the Champions league would surely be more watched. Would make the domestic cups more important if you could win that. Win a few games in Europe and them get a champions league spot.

Reward winning stuff.

We know how difficult it is to have a quality squad big enough for the Premiership and the Champions League. When a teams main priority is to stay in the Premiership, where the money is, they're hardly going to jepodise that for some 3rd rate European competition. It will be treated with the contempt it deserves and get a poorer response than the league cup.
