ozvaldo Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 I’m starting to feel really comfortable with the tattoo of Puel’s face on my lower back now. New Year, New Me.

But more significantly Stringer specifically asked about Benkovich & Barnes and Claude said the former was likely to stay on loan but the latter "we'll see". Makes absolute sense. With Wes apparently healthy we’re already four deep at CB. Thought Caglar was excellent against Cardiff bar one horrendous boner, and Evans the same today (and he’s our best overall CB at the moment, IMO). No need to consider Benkovic, but Barnes would absolutely fill a need. Not the biggest need (a two-way creative MF) but a need nonetheless.
PaulW Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Reckon Simpson might have earnt a last-minute extra 12 months on his contract!?

AylestoneRaider Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Puel deserves a lot of credit for recent results. I am not his biggest fan, but 9 points from our last 4 games is a fantastic return

Regardless of his performance today, he’s a proper defensive right back, a position we don’t have cover for elsewhere (with that level of experience). As we’ve seen from Puel lately, this offers us the ability to release Ricardo, and he’s a potent weapon, but also someone with good defensive ability. We’re decent.

He is a very, very solid no frills right back. We have Amartey when fit as an option but top quality full backs are few and far between. Sorted himself out and seems a popular squad member
EnderbyFox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 I've been critical of him in the past but Danny Simpson was class today, Richarlison really couldn't crack him. Last 15-20 minutes where Simpson tracked him across the box and blocked his shot was top tier defending. Comfortably the best defensive full back we've got.

Brilliant stuff. He's clearly building for the long term with a young team, but still managing to keep us competitive in the to half. 9 points from 12 at Christmas is testimony to that. Puel in!!!
Jaspa Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Another 1-0 away win against a Blue team for the Gray & Orange kit. Good performance given both teams looked completely shagged, we were the better team in the second half. Something quite dislikable about Everton at the moment, their fans are stuck in such a loop of promise & disappointment whilst staying a very respectable Premier League outfit, the fans kind of expect to be pushing the elite but they just havent got it about them, blaring out some crap jingle before the second half along the lines of "we've got the best fans in the land", yet they're all sat there with hands under their jacksies, moaning at every stray pass and getting uppity when Richarlison dives on the floor again. Simmo, Evans, Hamza & Ric our best. First half was a horror show, could string two passes together for the first 20 minutes and then we didn't really get forward much for the last 15mins. Maguire shouldve scored

People said he couldn't fix the defence, he did, people said he couldn't fix the set piece issue, he has. People said we'd be in relegation worries without Mahrez, we're 7th. People said he wasn't good enough to get us the points, he is. This is Pearson all over again, constantly doubting the manager and then him doing things they said he couldn't do. The argument has now moved form those things to entertainment and attacking. Perhaps we could actually appreciate the things he as done and actually think about giving him the time to sort out those other issues. He's shown previously that in terms of the sort of players we needed he was on the wave length of the fans, by getting an attacking right back (who looks a superstar) and a creative 10 who is showing plenty of promise for a young lad. Give him the chance to fix the other issues, if Silva and Iheanacho had been good buys we and he would not have as many problems, but they've been woeful and it's caused issues we didn't think we had any longer. That's not a problem of his making, he needs to time to sort this squad out as the flops are hanging around our neck and causing a lot of our issues. The results should buy him some respect and some time. Spot on mate and what I would’ve posted if I could be arsed
Farrington fox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Can’t believe I missed the 2nd half commentary. Great win, 9 from 12 better than I’d have thought possible.
Wdywd Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Simpson did well but we don't need to be handing out new contracts for that. We've already extended Amartey, Simpson is useful to have for the rest of the season but we don't need him afterwards.

La-li-lu-le-lo Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 No point predicting anything, I don’t even think the players know what to expect when they step over the white line!
ian_marshall Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 It's a definite Puel 'Out' for me. I mean look at the stats: - Only 3 pts secured throughout the whole of 2019 - No home wins this calendar year - Only one goal scored in 2019 - Yet to pick up any points against any of the top 6 and bottom half sides since the turn of the year. How can the board continue to back this manager?!?
