Simpson has come in and made our defence solid again, fair play to him for taking the chance when it was given. Ricardo is a far better winger than a defender, him and Chillwell compliment eachother well on the overlap, that needs to remain in my opinion. As does Simmo and Albrighton, which has always worked well. Albrighton changed the game today, gave us an outlet and held the ball up much better than Ghezzal who's decision making was poor. Onwards and upwards. Any thoughts on whether Maddison could be that creative player in a 3 if pushed back? I guess my question marks around that would be if he has the engine.

Robbie Keane is who it reminded me off, but he would just do one cartwheel and then a mini one after. Vardy's was an Olympic gymnastics winning display! Still love Keane though. I know O'Neill tried to sign him but we couldn't get him. Could you imagine if we did!? Keane: Vardy:
foxfanazer Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Puel gets until the end of the season now at least. Suck it up buttercups

Full of running and some lovely touches under pressure today I voted Chilwell our player of the season so far the other day but he was generally poor today. Check out how often he gave the ball away and let Bernard get so easily past him into the area at the end. The kid is a huge talent but he badly needs a rest

fazzyfox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Makes up for the home game where we were well in it until Morgans brain freezes. I was so frustrated after that game, it was a chance to lay down a marker that day but instead we shot ourselves in the foot. They look strong on paper but get at that defence (not that we did often today) and they'll crack. The history books will say 1-0 win, three points but to all who travelled most of the highlights would be moments of strong defending, not so much great entertainment at the other end.

I think it's worth a try, because if we are going to persist with 4-3-3 being in the front three doesn't exactly suit him either... Would be great to see him play in that role against Newport and take it from there.
katieakita Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 However bad we were Everton a team we want to match and better in the league were how good? Praise from Souness does not come lightly the phrase common sense does not often crop up on here. For those saying how bad we were losing to Cardiff and personally thought we did enough to win, how crap were Everton with all their creativity the offered as little as we have offered in the worst of Puel performances. The moaners on here may not be happy but however much they bemoan how crap we are and how rubbish the football is 7th place is some sort of achievement, just think with a few more additions how far we can go
BluethroughtheMiddle Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Average team and crap manager? Koff you doubters and moaners, We’ve done more than any expected or could have hoped for over the Xmas period. COYB

No idea how he keeps doing it, but I suppose when you've got Vardy scoring literally every chance he gets it helps. He has literally missed quite a few this season.

HybridFox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Have to admit we played better without Maddison
Guest WarehamFox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Anyone guess what team he will play against Newport, would leave Evans and Simpson in.

Sloppy in the first half but the introduction of Albrighton swung the game in our favour. The game was full of individuals errors so fitting that one decided the game. Excellent finish from Vardy. Ricardo, Hamza and Evans were our standout players. The thing I like the most about Puel's era is how hard we are to score against. We are difficult to break down, aerially very good in defence, well disciplined and have a top keeper behind the back four. Always feel positive about getting a result if we go in-front in game. It's getting into the winning position more ruthlessly that needs more patience and time. Puel is an underappreciated genius. Frustrate them first half and keep Jamie fresh, then kill them off second half. We are much better at defending both corners and freekicks, even when Sigurdson is taking them. We are not yet the complete team, but Puel is setting some great foundations.
RowlattsFox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Put someone like Maddison in the 3 midfielders and it automatically become 4231. There is very little difference.

Maybe in a more balanced side his best position is a true #10, but we're not a balanced side by any stretch. He could probably be more effective either higher up the pitch as a false 9 or deeper, acting as a playmaking midfielder and conduit man.

bovril Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Fantastic to see us go to Stamford Bridge and Goodison Park and getting wins with such a young team, including two players from the Academy. Brilliant stuff.
Paninistickers Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 It was a game that easy could've gone either way. Just like the home game against them. And just like Cardiff. Poor Puel at the mercy of such fine margins. The exact same performance with a 0-1 reverse today could've got him the sack. Hopefully Top takes a more reasoned view of narrow wins/defeats then 50% of the crowd.
Babylon Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Anyone asking for him out currently is frankly an idiot. People said he couldn't fix the defence, he did, people said he couldn't fix the set piece issue, he has. People said we'd be in relegation worries without Mahrez, we're 7th. People said he wasn't good enough to get us the points, he is. This is Pearson all over again, constantly doubting the manager and then him doing things they said he couldn't do. The argument has now moved form those things to entertainment and attacking. Perhaps we could actually appreciate the things he as done and actually think about giving him the time to sort out those other issues. He's shown previously that in terms of the sort of players we needed he was on the wave length of the fans, by getting an attacking right back (who looks a superstar) and a creative 10 who is showing plenty of promise for a young lad. Give him the chance to fix the other issues, if Silva and Iheanacho had been good buys we and he would not have as many problems, but they've been woeful and it's caused issues we didn't think we had any longer. That's not a problem of his making, he needs to time to sort this squad out as the flops are hanging around our neck and causing a lot of our issues. The results should buy him some respect and some time.
