So how do we solve a problem like the first 10 minutes?

Dont know but I dont buy this "Puel cant motivate them" point always being made. Our 2nd halves we always come out noticably better and more hungry.

This is a very difficult one to solve. It happens so much now that it's creating a self perpetuating cycle. The players are thinking about it so much, that it's bound to happen. Take today for example, Ricardo who is normally very dependable with the ball had an absolute brain fart and played a suicidal ball into a dangerous area. I'm not sure as a coach you can do much about questionable decision making like that. If we just pump it long all the time, then we won't improve as a team.

We do start slowly, so I'd suggest putting players like Albrighton and Hamza in from the start who have high energy, but we have still conceded early when we have tried this in the past.

Maybe the way to sort it out is to be pragmatic at the start of games. Just concentrate on keeping the ball without necessarily developing attacking play until we get 20 minutes into the game or so. But I can't see this going down too well with the fans!

But that is because half the time we are losing so have to come out fighting. There has to be a reason for it as it is happening much.

There has been comments about over training on here. Perhaps we are not warming up enough, however I think it is a motivational, switched on problem. The problem begins and stops with the manager. He seems unable or unwilling to change the way things are done and it is costing us.

Start Hamza over Mendy. No explanation needed there. Kasper could also communicate with his backline more because Maguire was asleep when Rashford came close to putting them ahead before their goal.

Go out and warm up harder pre match.  Make their bodies think they have started twenty minutes before kick off.

Maybe Puel doesn't feel Hamza is positionally strong enough to play in a midfield 2? I want to see him too but until we see him beside Ndidi alone we can't be sure there aren't valid reasons. Funnily enough, by the time it happens, Puel probably will have developed his weaknesses so he looks good in a two.

Think the lads are anxious about this first few minutes and it’s contributing to the continuation of the problem. So worried about starting badly that they do stupid things like Ricardo today. Needs addressing and fast

We always seem to need a goal in the match before we relax and get playing, and that to me is nerves. It's the players playing inside themselves due to fear, and only coming out once they've conceded. I think part is the atmosphere is utterly toxic, but from the clubs perspective it needs players who believe in themselves and the game plan, which is a combination of motivation and psychological preparation

Perhaps the crowd could start singing LOUD starting 10 minutes before the kick off and then KEEP singing and making motivational and supporting sounds until the end of the game.

I'd also tell the players to get into the opposition from the whistle but I think the crowd has a big part to play in the matches which it is failing to do.

Stringer asked Puel about this after the game and why it was becoming a trend.

Puel's answer seemed to suggest that the players are giving the opposition too much respect and are therefore starting games on the back foot.

Fvck all to do with the atmosphere, warm up, motivation or any of that. Just a young team who are lacking a bit of self belief and confidence to start games by taking it straight to the opposition.
