. I'd be surprised if he started today though...

I wouldn't be. Brendo might play him to try and keep Mitrovic quiet. A move that would certainly backfire after the 10th free header.

Bloody hope not Mitrovic is pretty fast, without being rude Wes would struggle with this.

With the odd exception most centre halves aren't very fast but more rely on their reading of the game and positioning. Wes has always been good at this imo. Pace is more of an issue when your midfield is weak or fullbacks leave you exposed and you have to cover for them. Mitrovic despite the hype on here is nothing special and needs several chances before he scores. He is a good solid hardworking trier though and a bit of a bully (in a good way), Wes likes dealing with a bully or a bit of a scrap. He's fought and won against a lot bigger and better than Mitrovic. If Brendon shows faith in him as opposed to anyone else,  as did Puel, he does so for a reason.

You are a very good poster and i do tend to agree with most of what you have said especially the part about the midfield & the fullbacks. However i disagree with your thoughts on Mitrovic, he is better than average and does deserve some of the hype he gets. My BFF is Serbian and a massive Partizan fan so have been watching him play since his late teens and can see how much he has improved.

I would really love him at LCFC, IF/when Fulham go down i am sure there will be alot of interest for him. The only bad side is his attitude is questionable and does tend to lose his rag, but that has got better with age :)

I get what people are saying but it's worth remembering that Chilly is only 22 and he's a bloody good player for his age. Not too many 22 year old LBs who are better than he is. He's got better every year since he first appeared on the scene and I'm convinced his play in the final third will improve with experience.

Yes, he's only 22 but, surely at that enthusiastic age he should be trying to score at the slightest hint of a goal. He seems to do the run into the box bit but then bottles out of the shot. Is it a fear of not scoring or maybe a fear of getting an earful from other players.

Can't see him playing 3 centre backs at home to Fulham and if any one is going to get the boot I'd imagine it would be Wes.

Yep. For an archetypal 'unit' up front he's a clever player and technically very capable.

What amazes me is that Chilly isn't involved in the box when we have corners or Free Kicks. This is an incredible waste. He has shown that he is clearly one of the best jumpers and headers of the ball we have in the team. He should be in the charging into the box like he has to down the sideline on a (wayward) Kasper kick. He could be our saviour in the box where we seem to have become dependant on Maguire!

on another point I'd like to sign Mitrovic too.

Mitrovic would be a great signing

And a nice shiny new contract extension to soften the blow

ah yes, the polar opposite opinion of Puel who wanted us to score no goals, obviously.

Rodgers wanting us to score is one thing, I'm sure Puel wanted us to score too - but getting the players to actually put the ball in the net is a different story.

you look back at plenty of the Puel games and we created numerous chances but couldn't take them.

personally I don't see that changing until we get some players who understand what the net is, where the net is and then figure out a way of making their foot hit the ball so that it makes it's way towards, and hopefully inside of the net.

You always make good and well thought out comments but I hope that you don't mind if I don't ALWAYS agree with them. I hate the "car salesman" talk. How anyone can fall for such absolute rubbish is beyond me. However I'm not confusing talk with ability - too many on here do and certainly did with Puel, I'm sure that BR is quality and will help us. Puel didn't need to say the team was short of goals, neither does any manager, when it's obvious, it's obvious.

No problems whatsoever! Balanced discussion is what the site should be about. I can definitely see the Anti-Morgan view and you could even say it’s a sign of weakness to pander to him. I guess we will see if it’s the right decision as time goes by!

I certainly wouldn't rule him out for coming here Suzie that's for sure. I do remember however some Newcastle posters in the past saying that whilst his commitment was not in doubt, his conversion rate was quite poor ie about 1 in 5 chances. What did you think about his performance against us today? He looked to be a bit overweight and unfit to me? Linked play nicely a couple of times but never really looked much of a goal threat himself, he's certainly no speedster but I don't think that's his game really. I think his attitude in the past was born out of frustration as I think he seems to have a genuine will to win,  I like a player with a bit of an edge in them anyway. Would he be able to fit in with a Rodgers type pressing pass and move style? Perhaps he just needs the right coach. Without wishing to stereotype, he does seem to have a commendable Wasyl type attitude.

Said this loads of times about Chilwell. Many of the pundits and other fans are salvating over him but he's simply atrocious when he gets into that final phase. He's so bad I wonder if the opposition know that and just allow him the space because they all know what he's going to do.

I really hope Rodgers can work on this with him and get him more ruthless around goal. I wonder if swapping him with Ricardo in match every now and then giving him the opportunity to cut in on his left foot might help him (like Marhez used to)

He's got so much potential though, if he cracks the final transition we could have the new Garath Bale on our hands.

You’ve got the wrong player. The one with the most potential to be like Bale is clearly Barnes.

Today was probably the 1st time in years, i wasnt able to watch and focus on the game ... was at the freaking dentist and then decided to go for a drink after ... Thankfully @Bucehad sent a stream in pm so i was able to watch on my phone. (while getting chatted up by a guy who kept farting - but thats another story)

I do think however its very hard to judge him at Fulham, he has little to no support (which was the same at Newcastle). But even saying that in a shit Fulham team he has scored 10 goals this season. Maybe i am bias but for me he is a very similar player to Vardy, always trying and like you said has the mentality to win (less speed perhaps, but by no means slow) the guy really does have an eye for goal and isnt stupid. He was awesome in Belgium and had a great conversion rate there, but then they did play to his talents. For me he is the missing piece and he is still only what 23/24 years old?

After that lot i feel like his bloody agent lol. Hope i get a good commission if he signs.

Mitrovic is an out and out 9, Vardy is going to be our starting no. 9 for awhile and it’s very difficult to accommodate 2 strikers playing in similar spaces. Mitrovic can’t press very well either because he’s so immobile. I like him as a player cos he’s an utter bastard and a f ucking unit but it wouldn’t work here

Beg to disagree :D .. What about in a 2 with Vardy ? And even if that didnt work he would be an absolute great plan B. Not that i think he would want to come to us and sit on the bench

He’s not a player to drop deep and link and neither is Vardy. We’d have to spend at least £25m for him so it just wouldn’t be viable, it’d be similar to the Slimani situation.

He is not a player to drop deep I agree but then how is nacho fairing with that? Don’t think it would be anything like the  slimani situation either. Mitrovic scores goals.

I love Vardy I really do but he is aging and will most likely be prone to injury. Who do we play when that happens or if next season we have a few cup runs and players are tired?

We need another ‘Vardy’.

He does seem to be a bit of a talker.

"I"ll die for the club"

Everyone in every football team wants more goals and to concede less. It's actions that matter, not talk.

Playing 3 at the back with the re-introduction of Morgan after 2 days at the club wasn't a clever action.

Hes got to experiment with the team and formations,we have nothing to lose now,he wont or shouldnt be judged on this season at all,it should be treated as a pre pre season.obviously a puel lover.
