The pressing from the front is much more effective, and James Maddision seems faster, sharper and has better stamina. He was great today. Good point - Maddison lasted the whole match whereas Puel would pull him off after 65mins
koop. Posted 30 March 2019 Posted 30 March 2019 I see only very positive things for this team in 2019/2020 season. Exciting times

rachhere Posted 30 March 2019 Posted 30 March 2019 I was so worried at the end by how the younger players seemed to be regressing and losing confidence under Puel. Ndidi was one in particular that it just wasn't working for, but it was a joy to see him back to his best today. We can definitely start to feel a lot more positive about the future.
shailen Posted 30 March 2019 Posted 30 March 2019 Very much like Ranieri when he first came he understood our strengths and slowly implemented his style

I just don't think he fits in with how the team plays. That's a change I am sure we will see Rodgers emphasize with all our wide men. If there was a criticism of today it would be that we were not clinical enough. Rodgers has said a few times at various clubs that the wide players are expected to create (assist) and score goals and that if they aren't doing that, they are not playing the position correctly. Our wide players do not contribute enough in this department and Rodgers knows this. Some of it is an attitude shift, not just ability. Harvey Barnes put so many dangerous low crosses into the box today but players didn't gamble on him doing it. Vardy and Gray should have got on the end of several of these and though they might not have scored, they would have worked the keeper. So simply being instructed to do this could get our wide men up to 5/5 for both stats. But for sure, Rodgers will want even more and if the players can't provide it, I am sure he will bring in one or two that can. The issue is that we had such a player and he left for 60m. So that's how much money a good forward can be expected to go for. Sadio Mane and Mo Salah were around 35m. So we may well be forced to develop our own players to become that type of forward instead of buying them. Harvey Barnes I believe will get to a 10 assists / 10 goals type of player over the next 3 years, but we do need another similar player on the other side.

StriderHiryu Posted 30 March 2019 Author Posted 30 March 2019 Good interview over on the official site with him, where he talks about what he's been trying to instill into the team: "Fundamentally we defended very well against a team that can really test you and I think everyone will have seen that earlier on in the season. They’re very fast, very quick, but we controlled that part of the game well and then offensively, our ideas are starting to come through The possession... but not just that, the dangerousness of it, so we were a real attacking threat. Our build-up play is improving. It’s going to take time for total confidence in it, but the players are embracing it and looking to work the game through the pitch. Like I say, we defended fundamentally very well. I’m so happy with the hunger that we had in the team to press the game, to suffocate the opposition, and it was a very good performance." The parts in bold I would very much agree with the manager on. Today we played essentially the same team that Puel would have played, but the difference was that the entire team was so much further up the pitch. There were more give and go's and one-two's, more cohesion in our play and in the second half it was just wave after wave of pressure. Awesome to watch as a Leicester fan. Given that we've frequently struggles against Bournemouth, to see such an improvement compared to earlier in the season already is very encouraging.
whoareyaaa Posted 30 March 2019 Posted 30 March 2019 Doing a fantastic job a breath of fresh air compared to Puel the team look much fitter already and are playing as a team the consistency in selection helps as well and the team understand what he wants. We have a good squad of players that need someone to manage them Rodgers is that man
Bluetintedspecs Posted 30 March 2019 Posted 30 March 2019 Everything about and around the club feels better.....exciting times!

Haha think Ranieri got himself in a tangle when we lost Kante and lost a bit of control - he brought in Mendy who was not the same player and dropped Okazaki for Slim and we lost a lot of energy in the team. We then tried to put an extra body in midfield to make up for the loss but that left us short up front. This team is young and energetic and we have more talent now then we have ever had. They need some clear, simple guidance and BR seems like he is perfect at doing that.

Wouldnt say he had that good of a game today either apart from that run past Daniels in the first half.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 Wolves can sod off, Brendan's got bigger fish to fry.

La-li-lu-le-lo Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 Not the worst decision to leave for a “mid table premier league team”.

dayday Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 And we have got our Wilfred back, back to his best since Rodgers has been here.
Farrington fox Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 Funny thing is, during the many threads at the time concerning Puel out and so on, I advocated BR and was duly flamed by a few on here. Just saying...
Grebfromgrebland Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 I'll admit I was Puel in but the difference is night and day in terms of the positivity around the club and our attacking intent. I was wrong.
Happy Fox Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 He is a top 6 manager imo, he certainly has improved us in the short time he has been here, obviously it’s too early to judge and he needs time, but the signs are encouraging.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 Isn’t it amazing how he has got so much more out of the same squad of players (admittedly Tielemans wasn’t with Puel long) we now play to our strengths.
Nigel Shier Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 When he does leave hopefully it will be because he will have made us a top 6 team and thats why other clubs will want him
eblair Posted 31 March 2019 Posted 31 March 2019 it is the buzz i love, i was so unexcited going to games under Puel, football felt like a chore. Going to the game yesterday i was excited to see a young team play attacking, quick football even though there is not much to play for
