Livid Posted 7 April 2019 Posted 7 April 2019 I thought he was fantastic yesterday and he’s improving all the time. My one gripe yesterday was he broke forward in our half shook off two men but then there was a soft pull back he stopped and took the foul when he could have drove forward. We ended up with a free kick in our own half when we could have had so much more.
Vardinio'sCat Posted 7 April 2019 Posted 7 April 2019 I've not been Maddison's worst critic, but I did get annoyed with his hair cut once. I'm sorry Col, it won't happen again.

Cadno'r Cymoedd Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 So it begins... Cascarino can foxtrot oscar https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/weekend-talking-points-arsenal-should-sign-james-maddison-to-replace-aaron-ramsey-36g3l9n82 "Arsenal is your (Maddison) team." Disgraceful bilge.
Tanya Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 From the first line of Tony Cascasarino's piece: "Harvey Barnes, Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans, James Maddison — Leicester City could become like Ajax or Monaco in recent years, a very good side built on young talent." The next line: I look at Maddison and I think, “Arsenal is your team.” So, Leicester has the potential to become an exciting, young, upstart team that can wow and thrill fans with its ability to cause upsets on the biggest stage.. Next line: But we should stop this in its tracks and remove all their best players and send them to underachieving London clubs cause I'm an elitist. It irks me. I don't see the point of going to Chelsea and Arsenal now anyway, they're in real turmoil. Liverpool I can understand the allure, and Man City if you don't mind sitting on the bench. But many of those so called 'big teams' don't win anything. Why not play in a side where you're guaranteed game time, that plays an attacking way and has the possibility of getting into Europe anyway. From afar, the obsession with the so called 'big clubs' is baffing.

LCCFox96 Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 Maddison always showed flashes of quality, even when his form dropped off between Christmas and March. He's got everything needed to be a top player in his position but the addition of Tielemans and Rodgers' enthusiasm and tactical tweaks have taken his game to the next level. Tielemans lightens the creative burden and we've switched from operating with two defensive central midfielders in Ndidi and Mendy behind Maddison to playing with one behind him in Ndidi and Tielemans, who is more attack-minded but realistically an all-rounder, alongside him. Add to that the attacking and dynamic fullbacks in Ricardo and Chilwell and the return of an electric Harvey Barnes and we're really onto something. We're a two or three players away from being a top quality side. Tielemans permanently would account for one of those players.

What was absent from his game was the aggressiveness and intensity you see in top midfielders, Rodgers has seemingly encouraged and/or demanded this from him very quickly and he is looking so classy right now. Confidence seems a big thing for Maddison, like it probably does with most players but he is loving his football and with the shackles off he looks a real talent.

Agree and being a young attacking midfielder confidence will always be a big part of his game

Maddison mentioned in an interview after the Huddersfield game that the team had not taken any days off for training the previous week. IE no rest days, just work, work, work! And it seemed like he and the other players actually enjoyed it because they were being pushed. It's no surprise that he looks like he has far more energy as a result, and it's really helping his game too.

Yes, I picked up on that and couldn't help but think if Puel had been making them train every day they'd have gone mad hahahaa

He focused on tactical training. That isn't necessarily a bad thing because if you look at the shape of our team it's not often wrong, and players are keeping the defensive and offensive lines decently. But we have the type of players in our team that want to play aggressively and get stuck in, so running intense training sessions that focus on that aspect has probably gone down a treat. Was it John Carver who once said "Vardy will chase a brown paper bag in the wind!"? At our best, that's how Leicester turn over teams IMO. Even during 15/16 though we did not have much possession we were far from shrinking violets. Look at the starts versus Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal for example - we set the tempo high from the off.

Stadt Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 Watched our section on MOTD just now and he's playing like how he did at Norwich last season as he's getting the opportunity (or simply just being allowed to) run more with the ball, he's got very quick feet and we've not seen much of it until recently

Unai Emery is a much better manager than I thought and I don't expect him to be around much longer. Arsenals american owner has a habit of milking his clubs, like the Glaziers, that he owns and they just screwed over that guy from Dortmund for the DOF position. It doesn't look good. Ozil contract was stupid. For Maddison to pledge 4/5 years of a short career to them is Russian Rollette at this point.

Gets on the ball a lot more.
coolhandfox Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 Leicester's James Maddison has scored three direct free-kick goals in the Premier League this season, the most by a player in a single campaign since Philippe Coutinho in 2016-17 (also three).

A blind man could see that playing Mendy and Ndidi together was so wrong.. And Puel kept doing it time and time again! Maddison and Ndidi have both shown what they're truly capable of since Tielemans has gone into the creative midfield role.

Ndidi looks like a world beater again. Tackle and give the ball to TIelemans or Maddison. Loving the shape of the team. Round pegs in round holes and everyone is really up for it. Just hope we can start to get a tune out of Gray and Barnes.

Grays final product remains his weak point, even after all this time. I don’t mind Gray but a real quality right winger would bring us on even further.
420Hashish Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 So apparently, they've ran out of questions to ask the players or articles to write about so here's one talking about Maddison drinking water. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/james-maddison-drank-ben-hamers-2733320
Vardinio'sCat Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 I think we need to stop Madders scoring see some of our other free kick takers til the end of the season.

The movement off the ball, the direct running, things that will only improve over time under Brendon are impressive and terrifying for the opposition. Regarding Gray, what can you say? He is an irritating enigma, he looks like he is scary to face, but he unfortunately isn’t 9 times out of 10. (Cough, Schlupp, Cough)

(Cough, Schlupp, Cough) Gray is not even close to Schlupp, and he's gone on to prove what a good pro he is at Palace. I'm not sure Gray has what it takes to improve. I think it's nearly time to move him on as it's not really working for him here. Perhaps he could have the same impact as Schlupp has made at another Club.
