Bobby Hundreds Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 You’d think the Aussies would be champing at the bit to win the series. Strange toss decision that, chasing at the Oval ain’t easy.

Because the whole point of a test match is to bowl the other side out twice, they may as well get it over and done with as quick as possible so they can bugger off home.
Brainy Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 I thought they bowled first because they fancied a bat in the afternoon
Bobby Hundreds Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 Foakes has to get another shot at playing for England. Bairstow has been shocking.

I've said it before but it wouldn't even be a debate if Foakes had been involved with England before Bairstow. Sounds like a ridiculous review again as well.
EastAnglianFox Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 belter of a pitch, no Starc or Pattinson, poor bowling at times and still struggling to crawl to 250
Bobby Hundreds Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 We are just so easy to get out. Root and Curran have had 4 extra lives between them and still didn’t cash in. We are so poor against the moving ball and are off to New Zealand next
theessexfox Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 For me this is one of the most frustrating batting displays of the series - the Aussies haven't been on fire, batsmen have got in and then got themselves out, and we should have been comfortably scoring 350+ on this pitch.
FrankieADZ Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 a few of them really need to look at themselves and certainly have to be questions raised about their places in the team too, at the end of the series its going to be a few players barely 5 from england to come out with any sort of credit
RowlattsFox Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 Feel sorry for Jos Buttler. How many times does he seem to get lumbered with the tail? I know it's going to happen sometimes when he bats at 6/7 but he rarely gets the chance to bat with a top order batsman for any length of time.
EastAnglianFox Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 Leach can hang around and frustrate, Buttler doesn't need to go full on t20 mode yet surely
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 People said: "England's middle order have struggled because the guys at the top haven't got runs to give them a platform." Today: 170/3 And still the middle order faack it up.

Today the top order did okay, and then Stokes onwards decided they were going to be useless
Bobby Hundreds Posted 12 September 2019 Posted 12 September 2019 We are playing the long game here, making Mitch Marsh look good to keep him in the test set-up until the away series.
leicsmac Posted 13 September 2019 Posted 13 September 2019 I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm certainly in favour of keeping Buttler in the side for the way he can go explosive like this when needed, even though it doesn't happen as often as folks may like.
leicsmac Posted 13 September 2019 Posted 13 September 2019 Also, if Leach can develop into a good wicket-taker for England we might finally have a good spin option who can also bat a bit.
EastAnglianFox Posted 13 September 2019 Posted 13 September 2019 Could have stuck 320+ on the board if Jos had used his noggin a bit...ah well better than it looked it would be just after tea yesterday.

He's bowled superbly to be fair. Was up at 88/89mph at times as well yesterday, he's more than a just a medium pacer now.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 13 September 2019 Posted 13 September 2019 Yesterday’s 27 is the highest opening partnership in the series. 😂

Batting line up hasn’t been this weak for a while.
leicsmac Posted 13 September 2019 Posted 13 September 2019 Again, unpopular opinion but I actually think there hasn't been all that much between the sides in terms of performance this series either. Smith - with help from Cummins - has pretty much carried Aus on his own and that's been the difference between the teams, not a big gap between all or even most of the players.
