Not always a happy camp

Just been listening to a podcast on youtube called the process and the episode features Ian Holloway, a very interesting listen if anyones got the time, and he delves a little into his time at the club and how much of a mess the whole club was in, goes on to say how the size of the squad was rediculous, certain players refused to go on loan because they were happy to not play but pick up their wage, bruno ngotty had no interest in playing at all and the only reason holloway picked him at times was because mandaric told him to, he also says he wanted to move on one of our goalkeepers but said player refused as they were on big money and wanted to sit out their contract as the wage was too good to just leave, as ive said if you get chance youtube it, very interesting listen

Which got me thinking of any other behind the scenes stories from managers, players etc about our club that not many know about, good or bad?

He seems like someone who'd you have a good laugh at the pub with (although not in Leicester, obviously..).

Such a big squad he picked Harry Worley in centre midfield for one of the biggest games in the club’s history.

He had a good job at Plymouth. Shouldn't have left mid season. But it's hard to resist the urge to go to a bigger club.  He was a good solid  championship manager but walked into a total shambles at LCFC.

Who's the keeper he is talking about that refused to go on loan?

You can see ultimately that he was probably over promoted, but that anyone would have struggled at that point.  In some ways he was the start of everything.  I mourn a little the loss of the never out of the top 2 divisions record, but I do feel like it led to the league win, so I am over it.

Looking at the squad list I assume he's referring to Rab Douglas? Must've come in on a decent wedge as he left Celtic to join us in the second tier?

Nigel never seemed forced into playing anyone for Milan.

Maybe he learned his lesson after Allen and Holloway both found him to be unbareable.

I look back at that period and think what a naive lad i was to think them summer signings of Kishishev and N'gotty were going to get us up just because Milan was splashing the cash. Even more infuriating to know he was forcing managers into playing certain players.

I do like Ian Holloway as a person and i think he was unlucky to come in at the time he did. But he has to take alot of the responsibility too. I hate to even think about that match at Stoke but am i right in thinking Ashley Chambers came on with about 1 minute to go? Wtf is all that about.

It was the worst feeling ive had and hopefully ever will have as a Leicester fan but looking back it genuinely was the best thing thats happened to us to get Nigel Pearson and his staff. I feel even more lucky to have had him after knowing how easily other managers were giving into the dictatorship of Manderic

You must be right. Rab Douglas looks like he never turned down a good wedge.

Classic Ian Holloway that.

I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

Don't get me wrong, the club was clearly rotten to the core but the way he goes on it's like he doesn't think he's to blame.

Well, that's surprising.

I used to work with the host. Had no idea he had his own podcast / YouTube.

I got that impression too but i think its more him convincing himself that rather than him being disingenuous. I think what he says about the club and Milan pretty much goes with what most say about that period. I think Milan rescuing us from the abyss made him think he had the license to do wtf he wanted to and it was the typical example that the chairman should never try and dictate anything on the pitch.

One can argue to n frow, have  typical negative overtones owners-fans....!!

At the time....Mandaric rescued our butts has a club!!!

I never really blamed Holloway, the club was in a mess,we seemed in denial .....And IMHO 75%  the playing staffs attitude stank!!!

It just bloody  hurt..to see us go down, with nobody and yet everybody to blame!!!

But like @Jon the Hat  indicates,it seemed to be "that" turning point!!!

...I remember when interviewed at the back end of that season, he constantly stated there was too much negativity around the club and we were not going down. It was like a stuck record.

He never listened and I think he thought he had fallen on his feet when he came to Leicester. The only time it seems he set the team up to perform,in a manner conducive  to getting a result, was against Stoke!!!!

….what a joke!!!

He was interviewed by the fox fanzine towards the back end of that season.Remember him saying he could field a 5 a side team of right backs, not to mention the 29 goalies we had on the books.Putting an arm round Kieibi because no one else had etc. That 07/08 squad was full of past or present internationals?Ironically Pearson sent us down that season.

Yep total. This is the bloke who played Harry bleeding Worley in one of the biggest games in our history.
