Notre Dame

As with many recent fires (Mandarin in London for example), can clearly see construction work ongoing, already said to be the potential cause.

Was talking to my friend who is a chartered surveyor, said it's only going to keep happening more and more as bottom line is pushed and regulations aren't stuck to.

A beautiful church. Although I'm not in any way religious, I love church and cathedral architecture. Loved Notre Dame when I visited many years ago so very sad to see.

Fire looks to be badly out of control. Roof will be all gone soon, very sad

Kay Burley will no doubt inform us "the whole of France is in flames"....

You can see the sadness in the eyes of the local dogs.

Sky News reporting central spire has collapsed into the fire

Just awful.  I've not heard anything about casualties yet so that's one small silver lining.

hopefully the shell of the building will remain? Thinking of the fire at York Minster in 1984. The roof was destroyed (although only in one transept) but the stone shell remained and it was restored.

But the fire here looks much more widespread than the York fire

Horrible, a beautiful place as well.

Very hard to look at, only visited last year, if it is due to renovation work then the contractors will face a hefty bill !!!!, not that money can replace years of history.

You'd be absolutely ****ing gutted beyond words to be the poor twat that started that. Unbelievable. Woke up this morning, going to work on a famous landmark, what a cool job, boom.

Awful. I'm glad I got to go, it is beautiful. Horrible for Paris.
