I was at the game in the Charlton end with a close mate who has supported them 65 years. 

 

It it was chaos, but the WBA bench didnt seem to help matters. Plus the penalty at the end seemed to be the softest you will see.

 

What was more noticeable was the quality of football. WBA are top, but their football, apart from the odd occasion was slow, lacking skill and boring to watch.

 

Having been at the Saints game the night before, the difference in ability, pace, teamwork and just all round approach to the game was massively inferior to the prem.

Keough been offered a take it or leave it reduction to his salary over the remaining 18 months on his contract. If he refuses then Derby might sack him, however i'd be staggered if they got away with that considering they haven't done the same with Lawrence and Bennett. It would just mean he'll likely never play for them again but he probably won't anyway, let's be honest.

It must be weird being a footballer, especially ones that aren't plying their trade at the highest level and therefore pretty much assured of many millions for a good chunk of their career and nor are they at the other end of the spectrum where they are earning only a very good salary that won't necessarily set them up for life. The Championship players on 20k a week is unreal money but if you take it for granted then it could be good in the blink of an eye, being mid 30's and never getting anywhere near the same money you were used to for many years is mad.

It's a surreal world, they can earn in a week what some earn in a year or in a decade. But as you said, if they aren't reasonably sensible then within time that could be all gone.

There's a fantastic new podcast called "The Price of Football" with a football finance expert. He said that for Championship clubs to break even they need to be paying an average of £4-5,000 p/w. Here they are spuffing away an average of £13k a week (I think that was the figure) on mostly medicore tosh. They genuinely are earning unreal money down there.

In truth, he is club captain so should behave better. Jumping into a car with someone whose drunk is not a great example.

They've literally handled this the worst place possible, the two players who still have resale value hey lads just go straight back into the team. But the player who's given us several years of service, a bit of a cult figure amongst the fans we'll just kick you to the curb with a career ender of an injury.

Keogh has always come across as a bit of a prat but we’ve all done stupid things when hammered we wouldn’t do when sober. 
 

This doesn’t paint Derby in the best of lights when the other two (who were actually driving that night and were convicted of a criminal offence) are actually playing in the first team. It’s just classless back handed cost cutting. 
 

The PFA will pick this up and either Derby or Lawrence’s insurance will eventually pay up for his loss of earnings.

Clubs have insurance for paying wages of injured players. No doubt the circumstances have made that policy void! 

 

Aside from the obvious of sacking the passenger whilst the other two drivers, found criminally guilty, get off lightly, this has been handled so poorly. If you're sacking someone for gross misconduct, sack them. Offering a wage reduction prior to the sacking just looks bad and gives them no standing regarding the morale high ground. 

 

Rooney and his betting company will come and rescue them in January...
