Dunk??!!

Is Morgan better? No. Are Benkovic and Soyuncu better? Nobody can say, all we know is Soyuncu was rarely trusted by two managers and Benkovic did well in Scotland.

Yet people are sure they are better, or think we are above singing players from teams a bit lower down.

Seems like the same anti British attitude people from other teams have about Maguire, constant sneery comments. Yet if he was playing his trade in Germany you can be absolutely sure people would be lapping up the links.

Dunk is a very decent player. If he worth £40m? Could we afford to spend that amount on a CB? Legitimate arguments against there.

These could probably still do a job...

Under his current contract, I'd say he is worth 40 million to Brighton and whomever is quoting that figure is right to.

He has regular Prem experience and would immediately replace Maguire in the team, maybe not in class, but would certainly be more experienced than Soynucu and Benkovic who need bringing through correctly.

Soyuncu was 'rarely trusted' because he wasn't needed to be. Maguire was playing well & fixture in the England team.  Evans was gradually returning to the form that makes him a regular with Northern Ireland, & our Club Captain was playing out of his skin whenever he was called upon. I trust Rodger's positive assessment of Benkovic, & t hat of both him and the manager of the Turkish national side regarding Soyuncu.

If we are after a CB Jamaal Lascelles would be Top of my list would be worth £20m and that’s not bad.

Think he will go for £25m but that’s definitely a good shout. He knows Leicester well too as his brother played (don’t know if he still does) for the Leicester riders. I’ve spoken to him personally before however & he does seem to love it at Newcastle.

I've never understood the obsession with Brighton's CBs. They conceded 60 goals.

The team conceded 60 goals, one player isn’t responsible. Maguire also conceded 60 goals for us last year.

They’ve conceded at a rate of 1.5 a game since returning. For a supposed no nonsense defender that’s hardly good.

Tbf though, the same could have been said of Wes pre Huth. Do we forget that we were virtually down before Huth turned up and showed Wes how to defend. Wes became a different player after that. Players improve and learn from having better players around them. From what I've seen. I like the player.

Maguire's hull conceeded goals at a rate of 2.1 per game the season we signed him just for some perspective.

Oh and Robertson was in that back four too and he's not to shabby either.

Dunk replacing Maguire next season, Ghezall replacing Mahrez last season.

Spot the pattern developing!

He didn’t replace him, we spent the money on a bunch of players and got a stronger squad from it. No Mahrez sale, probably no Maddison and Ricardo.

This is a shoe is on the other foot argument. Maguire is worth say 70m  to us, Duke is worth say 40m to Brighton. Man Utd/City fans are outraged at the cost quoted for Maguire, as we seem to be for Dunk (Well, some at least). It is what it is, a sellers market.
