shailen Posted 10 June 2019 Posted 10 June 2019 We are in a great position atm, and it seems like everyone is after our players with some of the biggest clubs in the world after them. On this note imagine we had our strongest XI, and no one left since our promotion. Imo our team would look like: Kasper Ricardo Morgan/Evans Maguire Chilwell Kante Ndidi Tielemans Maddison Mahrez Vardy This team is actually scary and would rival any team in the league imo, including Liverpool and Man City. There is pace, power, trickery, strength, aerial ability....etc, which is everything you need in modern football. Whilst we are currently in a strong position, it just shows how good our recruitment has been to get these players in for nominal fees in today's market and the ones that have been sold are for decent fees.

I'd probably stick Huth in over Morgan/Evans but other than that I'd agree on paper that'd be the strongest team. Obviously the immortals will always be our best ever but that 11 aside the team you picked looks very strong. X

StriderHiryu Posted 10 June 2019 Posted 10 June 2019 If we had Ndidi and Kante together, there would be no need for centre backs as we'd always win the ball back before it got to our defence!
Harry - LCFC Posted 10 June 2019 Posted 10 June 2019 I wouldn't be tempted to alter the title winning team. Ricardo over Simpson is the only possible exception. The 15/16 squad fitted together into an effective unit. I'd be concerned about disrupting things by inserting individual talents - good as they are - like Maddison and Tielemans.

World Cup, European Championships, Champions League, Europa League, top divisions in England, Spain, Argentina, Italy, Portugal, club World Cup. you name it they’ve won it and whole load of individual awards too.

I think it'd be weaker with Ricardo instead of Simpson, actually. Clearly Ricardo is the 'better' player in general, but Simpson's role in that title winning squad was hugely important. His solidity at the back is what allowed Mahrez to push forward and excel without worrying about leaving gaps, and his back-post defending was second-to-none. With Ricardo in the side we'd be terrifying going forwards, but the space left behind would get exploited so much. Tielemans instead of Drinkwater would be my one alteration but even then, it's ridiculously close for the reason you described. One things for sure though, our bench/squad would be STACKED. Even if you assume we stick with the title-XI as starters, some top players would have to miss out on the bench: Ward / Maguire / Ricardo / Ndidi / Maddison / Tielemans / Ulloa Chilwell, Evans, Cambiasso and even Kramaric would all be there-or-thereabouts.

Tielemans isn’t good enough without the ball to play in that 15/16 side, Drinkwater’s defensive ability was under appreciated

We were found out the following season with virtually the same team. The team I posted as the original team which includes more current players I believe is our strongest and it shows how far we have come when virtually all of the top teams have interest in our players. We and Ajax must have the most wanted players by the top teams this summer.

Clubs like Benfica would be followed by many more clubs in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, as their players would cost less. If we had Ruben Dias for example, he'd cost over 60 million pounds to pull away. As it is, I expect you could pick him up for 40 million pounds in Benfica.

Well Ricardo has been linked with PSG, Chilwell with Atletico and Vardy with Atletico in the past. I understand your point and it's true that PL players are overpriced and more expensive but no club wants to overpay. But surely it would be mad if Man city and all the big clubs are willing to pay more to get our players if an equal replacement existed abroad. The fact is imo there is no equal players availabe that a big club would be able to transfer. I'm not saying we have the best players in world football, but we are probably one of the top, if not the top, club that has so many players that could play for top teams in the world. Kasper, Ricardo, Maguire, Chilwell, Ndidi, Maddison, Tielemens (assuming he signs) and Vardy could all easily play for the best clubs in the world.

I agree that they all could play for the best clubs in the world, but I'd like to add the caveat that I don't think any big clubs will be after Vardy or Kasper considering their age and our reticence to sell at a 'reasonable' price. I think in terms of clubs with players sought after by the top clubs, we're certainly up there, but the likes of Milan, Inter, Napoli, Dortmund, Lyon, Sevilla, etc etc are all big clubs in their leagues, but unlikely to buy from the PL unless they're discards from top teams, because they don't have the money. I'm not saying the likes of City will overpay for our players when a continental alternative exists for cheaper and the same quality (although look at Mahrez...), but that similarly large clubs on the continent will have no interest in our players because they can't afford them.

Sampson Posted 15 June 2019 Posted 15 June 2019 I'm surprised so many are picking Maguire over Huth and Morgan. Maguire had a poor season last season - and the season before, while he was good, he was clearly not as good as Morgan or Huth in the title winning season. Same with so many people picking Chilwell over Fuchs. I like Chilwell a lot, but he's not even close to Fuchs in the title winning season yet. I think people are forgetting just how good this title winning side were and just how consistent they were. Inconsistent players who produce every 3 or 4 games doesn't mean they're better than them. You could *maybe* argue Cambiasso or Ricardo should be there instead (Tielemans I don't think has played enough), but that's about it.
HighPeakFox Posted 15 June 2019 Posted 15 June 2019 To counter the above (well-made) point, I think our whole defence looked as good as they did in 15-16 because of Kante. I'm not convinced they played all that much better than what we've seen since.
