Everytime I see Calvin Bassey for Rangers he’s brilliant. What happened with him here? Was it just a case of Rangers were able to offer him first team football at the time?

Unfortunately for the lad full back is probably our strongest possession with the most depth, he was never going to get near the first team. Great to see him doing well though.

One of my favourite players from the period he played for us...

My favourite player when I was mascot in '93. Had my photo with him on the pitch before kick off.

Had Colin Hill, Ormondroyd, Speedie and a few others laughing cos they'd never seen a  kid choose Whitlow before as their favourite player..

Seems a bit young to be retiring!

I feel a bit old to still be working

always like whitlow, hard as nails no nonsense.

Loved Mike Whitlow, cracking free kick on him and always gave everything. Remember a game mid 90s where we were 2 nil down at Filbo to Norwich and he scored an absolute belter of a free kick and we went on to win 3-2.

In other ex-player news Patrick Kisnorbo has won the league again at Melbourne City. Seems to be doing a decent job, although with the investment from Man City their resources are far greater than the rest of the league. They also went out of the Asian CL in the group stages, when they should be looking to go deep in that comp.

Colin Gibson reveals he has dementia

Very sad and at only 62. I wouldn't have thought he headed the ball a lot during his career though. Very much a bit-part player for us until the end of his City career when he played an important part in the 93/94 promotion run in and played his last game in the Wembley play-off against Derby.

A good week got even better for former professional footballer Alan Rogers as Clear The Runway carried his red and white silks to an easy victory in the novice hurdle.

Rogers, best known for his playing days at Nottingham Forest, runs his horses in the colours of his beloved club and two days after their dramatic Championship play-off semi-final victory over Sheffield United, he was celebrating again courtesy of the Laura Morgan-trained six-year-old.

The trainer said of the 2-13 winner: "We were looking for the best opportunities for him and he's quite exciting for the summer. There are a few good pots to come and he'll go back over fences at Cartmel at the end of the month.

"Alan's got a few with me and we've been lucky for him as Gentle Jolie and Champ Is Real have both won two races each as well."

Chris O'Grady signs for Ilkeston Town, I don't think he's played since Bolton a few seasons ago.

On holiday in Iceland last week, had the tv news on which included the draw for the quarter finals of the cup. Following the draw there was an interview with the manager of Vikingur to determine his thoughts....a certain Arnie Gunnlaugsson. My Icelandic being a bit rusty had no idea what was said.

He still has the same hairstyle but has added a bushy black beard.

Never quite went for him at Leicester but I do remember a couple of cracking goals curled into the corner from outside the box at the old kop end.

I'd have been impressed if he had a different hairstyle.

Wasn't he bald? lol

Exhibit A

Paul Konchesky - who would have thought that guy would turn up one day with hair.

Your Icelandic being a bit rusty?

There's probably about a dozen people on the planet that would be able to say that. It's essentially insular old norse and quite possibly one the most difficult languages to learn on earth.

Props.
