With all the talk of Maguire going and whether we should buy a replacement - or find his successor among the Squad's (many) existing Centre Backs, no one has mentioned Amartey as a possibility.  He came to us as a utility player who could play at Right Back, Centre Back and Defensive Midfield, but MOST of his experience at Copenhagen and Djurgardens was at CENTRE BACK.  Indeed, nearly all of his 22 International caps for Ghana has been at Centre Back. It has only been because of the squad depth at Centre Back in recent years, that Claudio, Shaky and Puel have not played him there - and because all 3 used him as an emergency Right Back or Defensive Midfield player, that they seemed to forget his Centre Back CV (even getting cover in for that position, like Dragovic).  Perhaps BR might feel he needs to give him a go there - and a FULLY FIT Amartey might just be the man to replace a departing Maguire ?

I agree pal. Height, strength, some pace, tactically aware (unlike Soyuncu)....and can bring the ball out (of sorts)

The game he snapped his leg v west ham he had a brief spell at CH....I remember commenting during the game that Wes's replacement is perhaps right under our nose.

However, i suspect most of FT will mock the suggestion on the basis of Soyuncu (clueless, IMO, but FT seem to think he's brilliant as a bundesliga motd type thing put him.in a team.of the season line up) and Benkovic (never ceases to.amaze me that people suggest him as heir apparent having never seem him.play)

Nowhere near good enough to be a regular in the team.

Calling it, with less than 2 weeks to go in the window. If Maguire is still a Leicester player at close of business today, he will be going nowhere!

#moreITKthantheITK #dontreallyknowanything

On Amartey, he’s 5th choice CB at best right now, even if Harry goes Evans and Soyuncu first choice, Morgan and Benkovic next then possibly Amartey, but we also have some strong youngsters who may be used there too.

Amartey has all that but needs a few pounds added on to bulk up a bit as he's liable to be pushed around occasionally. Nothing wrong with trying him out given that's where he plays for his country.

Andddd then the being a dick starts.

In your opinion Amartey could be great, others may disagree and wish to give Soyuncu or Benkovic a game.

Soyuncu, just as Amartey, has shown glimpses of being great. Benkovic earnt rave reviews from Celtic fans too and is only 21 ish. We'll see how the season goes first.

Just as you don't agree doesn't make it wrong, dont be a tw4t

Could argue that all those points are complete myths.

He's 6ft... Pretty short for a centre back (and yes there have been notable exceptions to that)

He might look strong but he gets bundled off the ball all the time. Even the other day there were a couple of times he got shrugged off the ball by league 2 centre mids, who should have nowhere near the physicality of a premier League player

Again, looks like he should be quick, and on a physical level I'm sure it's there. But when have we really seen that?

Is he tactically aware. Caught out of position plenty of times and centre back demands that you can't do that unless you have exceptional pace/strength to bail you out.

Sometimes the guy makes Wes look like Beckenbauer.

You're comparing him to 2 guys who have established themselves as centre backs and we've yet their best. DA has been here for a long time and nobody knows his best position but equally we haven't even seen flashes of what he did in Denmark or for Ghana.

I get the logic. On paper he looks like he should be a monster and he hasn't really even had a chance to nail down a position but equally, he's done nothing to justify a place in the team. People rightfully complain about Gray and that we're still waiting but he's younger and he's shown glimpses of what we want. Amartey hasn't.

If you were suggesting him as 4th/5th choice then I'd agree with that but he is behind 5 others at the moment and rightfully so. If he replaces Maguire, we won't be fulfilling out ambitions this season.

Amartey plays CB for Ghana right? I really wasn't keen on Amartey when he arrived. He looked far too nervous. But he was playing fantastically before his injury last season, albeit as a RB, looking confident and very solid. For me, Amartey is a bench player who, when he hits his stride, can get in the first team, possibly even at CB if needed.

Like other players before him.

And other posters before @bald reynard

First this forum has to go on the negative, not looking at any virtues of any idea, nor  the player assets and capabilities...First lambast the poster, then the player...

All the forums negatives confirm what I have always said and history of the forum proves it!! Despite some great, across the board banter on nearly every topic....This Forum as never been able to pick a player...!!

Plus it rarely can see other peoples posts, other than tin-pot ideas.!!!

We just seem to have the dribbling drewling blood lust thought, is that we should kill  all thoughts and especially those posters who even dare bring it to the forefront...!!!!

Football is full of unlikely candidates, who have made successfull

Future careers in other positions...

Amartey  critic is even worse, becausehe has played, also internationally CB...

Says more about the nay-sayers,than the

Player,the idea,and the posters...

Then I remember,....we are East-Midlands,fuddy-duddies,who would rather crap on their own toast, than recognise somebody else having an idea....

Nobody can complain about the above statement ..just read our history ..:ill:

Right On. Doing things like this is right in Rodgers wheelhouse. Maximizing assets.

We need to open our minds to the concept that football players are a set of attributes/skills plugged into what's required by their job on the pitch.

Where they play is up to the manager. From what I see so far Amartey would make a fine Centre Back.

But also think Gray would make a first class defensive/wing back. if he can't get his finishing up to snuff. I still back him for more goals.

This seems harsh.

Just before his injury he was performing well on a regular basis. Don't let some of his early shaky performances cloud your judgement.

the first time he makes a mistake if he plays in that position he will be absolutely vilified and totally slated particularly on Foxestalk.

If we want to seriously push on for the top 6 players like Amartey shouldn't be near the team. Harsh but that's what it is.

This was crazy when raised in the Maguire thread.

Amartey as a CB before Benkovic and Soyunco?

He's an average utility player that needs to improve drastically to even get a squad place as a utility player.

Has Soyuncu looked any better than average yet, we don't even know about Benkovic yet whose only played in a very average league and appears injury prone. Armarty has at least played in the Premier League and was putting in some way decent performances in prior to his injury, performances that were perhaps not in his favoured position. Could Soyuncu or Benkovic played as well at right back? Didn't he get voted as one of the players of the tournament in the past at CB in one of the Afcon competitions?  It would be foolish to just dismiss it out of hand surely.

Needs a loan to play a full season at CB imo. We've used him too much as a utility player and mostly at RB to probably risk him straight in as a first choice CB. And with missing more time out due to his horrific injury, if there is an idea to use him as the defender he started out as and potentially could become, then he'll definitely need more game time that we currently can't give to him with Benko, Soy and Morgan as alternatives.

I mean this sounds a little hypocritical, I doubt youve seen much of DA at centre back either?

Whilst I agree that he is a CB and we have never seen him play there, I don't see him having the quality to get any game time there either.

He should go on loan somewhere.
