Stoke/Rotherham Matches Thread

I thought we were fantastic value to watch. Thought more would attend the Stadium tbh.

A number of players short a yard of pace and length of pass but overall what bloody entertaining football to watch forward passes and play. Chilly wasn’t always the best at crossing but the better balls are beginning to outnumber the poorer ones. Hamza grew into the game but in the first half I felt struggled a bit in the Ndidi role. Gonna love watching Youri and Madders in midfield this season. Albrighton whilst blowing on about 70 minutes was pretty awesome today - I can see why BR has him in front of Barnes in terms of end product. Ricardo - excellent.

Was it their Captain who turned over his ankle? Looked pretty bad he won’t be back before Christmas. Harsh.

if we sell HM we might, but the comment was a marine mammal based joke rather than a suggestion of a signing

Its ok. I got it mate.

You’ve gotta be of a certain age to know who Tarka the Otter is :D

In defence of Vardy today, I was starting to question his input a little but soon thought nah, I’m wrong. It is pre season and he isn’t going to waste his bursting runs and tenacious pressuring on these games. It’s a long season and he will be back to his usual self come Wolves.

He's 33 next season, he's in conservation mode. 95% of his effort will be centered on being slipped in by Maddison and Tielemans.

Great to see both fullbacks assist today. There's an argument they'll be our most important players this season if we play narrow formations such as the 4-3-3 or diamond.

I had a Tarka the other day.  It's like Tikka, but otter

Tarka is actually a very nice pint from the Otter Brewery in Ottery St Mary.....had a couple the other night. Maybe I should put that in the My Last Pint thread.!

I can see why the porto fans were so cheesed off that we basically robbed ricardo from them !

Atlanta, up next & last pre season game.

Still too early maybe for Ndidi.

But,IMO I am no longer worried if he doesn't start,....Mendy was injured in the

Rothers game, but Choudry is growing well into that midfield position.

Some fans and the Leicester pundits I feel ,always missing the major points..of how Rodgers is using each game, for team fitness plus formation experimenting and selection changes.

Some players will shine or stand out,no matter what..others are being asked more of,when asked to take up another

Approach or position movement in different parts of a game,or in the next  pre season games.

Important things for me...

We can play with Vardy & Perez.

Ricardo looks set for another top season.

Albrighton..can carry on,and even be better..

Tielemans with Maddison are going to be 'our: wonder duo .If both gets knocks

Then beggars the question can the team

Carry a few games without them..

I don't see a desperate need for a quality

Winger right now.

Even if Nacho starts to cut it,we still need one other striker.

B.line sorted with or without Maguire.

I am still concerned, can we convert enough of our potential created chances

to win games..That proof only comes when the new season really starts.

We still have Barnes,Amartey,Gray, even King to call on,to keep front 5 interesting

Amartey can also help with completing

Squad cover for the B.line which includes Soyu and Benkovic.

Goalkeeper position..no problem..!!

We are still missing some hardened quality, but our youth potential could still make up for that...Some good guys already shown, deeper into the season they will be knocking on the door.

But a quality solid first 16. We have.

Potential any of the 17-28.players.

This I believe will see us comfortable in top 8. The big question will be ,do we have enough discipline, mental strength and quality to compete for those top 6 Placings.

I won't be squeezing my legs and bum cheeks, out of entitled, expectation frustration ,if we play well but find  thosr higher positions are still hard to realise.....I won't be jumping on the

Blame-wagon...

If I was a betting man...I would bet we finish higher than last season...

I would bet we will score more goals,

Have more players on the assist ratings.. Have a gamble we concede less, but not expect it..

To win one one of the cups...

But I won't "zocken' on a top 6 placing.

Rewatching the stream to do some armchair analysis and it does look like a game of 2 halves.

First half: we started off brightly and had a few attempts but as the first half wore on and not being used to the new formation, we struggled and Stoke had chances to attack us because we were far too apart to do our 1-2 touch passing and not hunting in packs enough. Our medium and long passes kept getting cut out and intercepted as it was far too obvious where the play was headed.

Also Kasper does not like the Championship ball as that's the only reason I can think for his mistakes but the penalty save redeemed that, as we've all said.

Second half: Brendan obviously saw what we struggled with and instructed the midfielders to go narrower and closer to each other to allow our passing to happen and also allow the fullbacks to support and bomb forward with support rather than being isolated.

Also having a ball that the players are probably used to more seemed to help things. Passing just seemed to be slicker.

Stoke seemed to drop off a bit more during the 2nd half, no doubt after the Shawcross injury they decided to reign things in a bit more just in case.

Possibly our famed fitness kicked in towards the end of the game but second half they mostly ended up chasing shadows once we got to grips with the system a bit more.

In your opinion....

He is hardly a normal 32 year old, in terms of football burnout

Some great, intricate running and footwork on show here. Wouldn’t do it myself but nearly died of an asthma attack laughing at this idiot.

Also under Rodgers Vardy's pressing style is different. Rather than chasing the ball or defender all the time like he used to, he plays a smarter role where he forces the direction of the opposition play into a channel where 1 cm and 1 winger will both close down together with vardy cutting off the return ball. Much more efficient pressing style and means vardy is already on the shoulder of the last man waiting for the ball to be slipped in 1st time.

Enjoyable but soggy trip to Stoke - it always rains in Stoke!! Good game overall, struggled a bit at times first half. I thought Evans got a touch on the ball for the penalty but maybe just blue tinted glasses. Our first goal was fantastic, Ricardo and Tielemans linking was wonderful to watch. Kasper needs to sort his feet out still, but good penalty save! Shawcross injury didn’t look great for Stoke. Minutes in the tank for everyone, step up again against Atalanta ready for Wolves

Anyone else seen this gem from SKY?

GOAL! STOKE 1-1 LEICESTER (Powell 73)

Not such good news for Leicester a few dozen miles west of their other side, as Nick Powell's cross drifts over Butland and in to level.

This is worse from the official LCFC match centre site. Apparently we won 2-1 at Rotherham too

Ottery is Where I spent most if my teenage years growing up. I can vouch for Otter Ale and Tarka. Best from the south west those.

Rattler and Doombar also ranking highly.

Went to Rotherham today as I hadn't been to their current ground. Thought it was quite entertaining really lol partially because of the behaviour of our fans.

Iheanacho's looking sharper, you've got to give it to him. I'm very wary as he did very well last pre-season as well but he showed some quality today. Even his general movement / effort just looked a lot more like what you'd want.

Unfortunately I'll end with this - you can forget top six if Gray plays a significant role this year. He's absolute toss.

re the diamond formation - have we played it any of the earlier pre-season games? reckon it could be the main formation or just an option?

seems to me it could be useful in the home games vs bottom half - perez and vardy causing havoc could create more scoring opportunities
