Watch Perez's runs in the first few games of the season.

Some may moan that he isn't involved as much as he should be, but off the ball and particularly in the box, he thinks like a very savvy centre forward.  He plays 2 roles for us.  He helps to link play, but he makes it 2 up top more so than others in that role can.  I'm absolutely thrilled we have such a player.

Me too. I can't believe how lucky we are to have a player who has the technical and tactical ability to play anywhere in the attacking five or three.

I can't think of a better attacker to stand in if Vardy were not to play. Hope we get one more like him.

Yep I quite agree. From what I've seen of him so far the player he most reminds me of is Shinji Okazaki, except he stays on his feet more often and is a better passer and finisher. Maybe a bit weaker in terms of holding the ball up and lacking the Shin-jutsu ability to score the most scrappy goals that still count lol , but overall an upgrade coming into the prime of his footballing career.

I always though the move was a good one. It's maybe not as "blockbuster" as teams around us such as Haller, Cutrone or Kean, but all of those players are risks who are unproven in this league. Perez has literally fitted into our team immediately and looked like he could have been playing with us for a number of seasons. We looked at the fee and thought "he's worth it" so just went out and brought him out of his contract to get it done with no fuss and get him part of the team ASAP. I think it was very well handled for this reason.

Perez is very classy.

He was expensive, but we became aware of his release clause, knew that he was happy to move as a result of Rafa going (agent was shring this info) and for want of a better phrase...... we are rich as ****. We had to act quickly as others were sniffing.

I have every faith he will be a huge success and there are 2 other key reasons why.  We've never had 3 of the same ilk as we do now (Maddison, Perez, Tielemans) and players like that help one another to be a success. I'm really excited to watch them grow this year.

Gives me faith in the people who run this club that they were able to make a decision that quickly and make it happen.

Don't think Rodgers has ever worked for a club that had their shit together like that. One more reason why he decided to join Leicester. :scarf:

Had actually picked up on his movement a few times in a few friendlies. Especially the dropping into the edge of the box/penalty spot area for Ricardo when he gets to the edge of the box. We seemed to try that a fair few times against Stoke.

The clip linked above shows that all four of our forwards were dropping and getting into the box for balls coming in.

Was Okazaki a flop? We spent big money on him and his goal return was poor but he was instrumental in our title win.

In the same vein Perez should not be judged on his goal scoring alone, but in how he complements the team. He might not score a ton of goals but if he can be the perfect foil for Vardy then it doesn't matter who scores the goals.

Obviously I hope you guys are right! The signs are all there... let's enjoy that Albrighton goal again in all it's glory. Perez wins the ball, plays it to Ricardo, to Tielemans, exquisite through the lines through ball to Ricardo, fantastic cross, coll as you like chest control and wallop!

Fantastic team move! :scarf:

The most encouraging thing about this goal is that it's great play from 4 separate players. They all play their part!

Watching that again, I really appreciate the quality of that ball from Tielemans, perfectly weighted and with no margin for error either side.  Good also, how quickly MA gets that shot away and out of his feet as the defence threatens to close in.

I believe Mike Newell was a record signing at the time and improved, going on to be sold at a profit bit yeah there is otherwise a worring legacy when we spend big up front.

Think Perez will do well, if he doesn't get many opportunities to then that's because the rest of the side / squad are putting in comsistent performances which should lead to good results / season but if he is used fairly heavily then I have faith that he can do a good job and seems to have an instinctive will to get his shot away early and be bright around the edge of the box so I can't see him being a passive bystander when he's on the pitch. Seems to fit with Rodgers approach, not just about being quick but that economy of touches as in the title season.

I agree but you do have to worry what might happen to us if Vardy does get injured. It's hard to think of any other player who can produce the goals as the main striker like he can. Hopefully Perez can step up to the plate if he has to be the main striker with Tielemans or Maddison behind.

Whilst Ive not been a huge fan of Iheanacho so far, he could do ok in this team now if Vardy was out. Now we actually have more creativity in the team we could start creating more chances for Iheanacho. He is a good finisher when hes got confidence (as shown in pre season) but he doesn't create his own chances like Vardy often does and needs much better service. Perez is an option up front but I can see him most games playing wide or behind Vardy.

We will score a lot more than 51 this season - playing attacking football for a whole season under Rodgers. I reckon it’ll be around the 70 mark.

70 is the number I keep saying I want as well.

were all our ‘big bit of business’ the year they joined*, and they all worked out. I think the difference is that when people perform, you forget how much they cost you...

*ok, not Shinji, but 8.5m was pretty big at the time

I can't say I knew much about him before he joined other than that he liked to score against us and his form was streaky.  But that stat when he signed about him making the most tackles of any striker in the league really made me take notice and already in pre-season he has won the ball back a number of times by pressing high up the field.  I reallt think he could be a very good player for us.  The only issue he might have is that I have put him in my FPL team which means own goals and red cards are a certainty.  X

So far I like him.

Good support play.

Reasonable first touch.

Nice taken goal today.

However this opposition isnt quite EPL standard.

You know they finished 3rd in Serie A last season, right?

Bit harsh to blame Hume, the whole team relegated us with Holloway in charge, I quite liked him always put a shift in.

I know where they finished, but am I not allowed to make a judgement on what I think of the standard.

It was a friendly.  So the pace of the game the aggressiveness of defenders etc, was not of the standard of a top tier league game.
