England squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria - Chilwell and Maddison

The FA sent him home. That’s the official line anyway so I don’t see why all the fuss? Before anyone gets on their high horse, I’m sure most of us have done things we shouldn’t have morally been doing when we’ve been off work ill. He was in his own time.

I’m sure we wouldn’t make the news if we did though. Just a bit silly from him really.

Plain daft of Maddison to be putting himself in the spotlight whilst the game was actually going on.

Only a week or so ago he was being interviewed and explaining his desire about wanting to play for England and he came across pretty well.

Then a few days later, he can not even be arsed to watch his fellow team mates.

Wonder what our reaction would be if this had happened at LCFC ?

LCFC qualify for Europe, Maddison doesn’t travel, then is seen out and about whilst we are playing

It all seems a bit weird. I've not seen any social media from him saying he's disappointed to have to withdraw, which is really unlike him.

Disappointed that Gareth Southgate didn't publicly stand up for him more, even if in private he then laid into him. Surely part of his job is to protect the younger players from the press? I don't know what's going on there really - presumably GS has taken badly to the criticism he's had in not playing him and doesn't want to be proven wrong.

I expect Gareth is a but defensive right now.. let's see if he gets a reaction in Bulgaria... and how he uses both stick and carrot

Maddison never gets to play for England? Lose a few matches and they will panic like they always do , probably make him captain or maybe player manger after sacking South gate.

I'm not saying JM did a 'bad thing' - I just think it would've been wiser to keep a lower profile this weekend.

And I'm asking why? The reason people say this, isn't because there is anything wrong with what he did, as you say. But because they know the media will try and warp it... which is frankly bollocks and everyone needs to be grown up enough to know that. Especially those involved with England.

So if he did similar with lcfc ? We would all be on him like a ton of bricks..

I'm sure it's happened loads of times where players who were ill, suspended or dropped didn't bother turning up for matches.

And over many years I've heard of many examples where dropped, banned or injured players are actually pleased when their team does badly without them.

Wasn’t really my question..

Reported by the SUN get over it, what the fcuk its got to do with anyone what he dose in is own time.

Even Southgate said as much. It’s almost as if some players can’t step out of the front door of the house without someone digging up shit about them.

Hope he won more than England did.

He can do whatever he wants in his own time. However if he is keen on getting into the England team then it wasn’t the best idea. If he’s not fussed, then not an issue at all.

If I understand what's going on correctly (which I may not because I don't really give a shit so I've not looked into it), why does anybody care what a player does in their free time?  I'm just imagining all the moaners showing up to work on their sick days to watch their colleagues out of 'loyalty' lol

What is the problem here.

He isn't "skiving" work.

He's on an international break - not supposed to be in Leicester training, not supposed to be in England training camp - so he can do whatever he wants , law permitting. Is anyone complaining that Wes Morgan was out shopping at Lidl? or that Marc Albrighton was having a haircut?

I expect the sun to talk rubbish but why on earth are supporters even questioning this? Especially Leicester supporters?

I'm sure he genuinely was ill during the week, but then felt better on Friday. However, he has to be smarter and realise it's not going to look good if he gets caught on a night out. This just gives Southgate another excuse not to give him that first cap.

So the Sun vor to you too..!!

He was ill,Not dying!!

I belong to the old fogies-brigade,But the Suns Story is a non-story.He wasnt well enough to Play a game at International-level,Maybe even Club level.

That Shouldnt Stop him going out...IMO only the "Sun" Type Minded People will find fault with it.

If cant be compared with a normal Workers life...8hrs a day 5-6 days a week. Where you would try to curtail the Silent as  quick as possible..

None of you are Doctors, you dont know what illness Problem he had,or what ailed him...

But you lot carry on enjoying the crap all the poor Reporters dishes out under the presence of "Newsworthy"

from  the greatest newspaper since the Dino-herald..!!

Ffs. Some of you should Really get a life, und if you find one, intigrate all Sun reporters/Readers and Soap-lovers to your new found group.

Why? They released him from the squad, it's not like he phoned in sick. From the moment he was released his only concern should be Leicester and when he trains / plays for us. He can't play again for England for another month, so him playing a couple of hands in a casino doesn't affect him or England in any way whatsoever. Other than the press wanting to whip up a load of gullible people into thinking he's actually done something wrong.

I disagree partly because Morgan and Albrighton had not left the England squad due to illness - just stay at home until the England matches are over so there is no chance of the papers making stories of it.

I don’t think it’s the best way to impress the boss. I would have thought he might have been interested to see how the team that he supposedly wants to play in performed.

Hang on, the England management instructed him not to travel with the squad to Prague to cut the possibility of other players catching any illness. Maddison will have been frustrated at that no doubt, chances to win caps at international level only come around every few months and then sometimes much longer. He's been cleared to go back home and I assume do what he wants before reporting back to training with Leicester. There's is nothing else to even consider here, The Sun have jumped on this especially because a) they are the most despicable cretins in the press and b) Maddison mugged them off after they had a pop at that disgusting children's rucksack he had on for a laugh. The whole article was an attempt to further aggravate a rift between them and Maddison, they love an opportunity to do this.

If England actually wanted Maddison to travel but he overplayed how ill he was then that's an internal issue but they have confirmed they chose to send Maddison home, so it's not even a case of him being a touch unprofessional in the aftermath. Whether Southgate has an opinion on Maddison's character that he's unsure on and it gets further strained due to outside influences in the press, that's up to him to deal with. All Madders can do is keep killin' it for Leicester and make Southgate look even more inept by marginalising him, I think this is where Maddison will excel. He has a growing mental strength where he likes to prove people wrong and piss them off along the way. I like that about him, although i'm desperate to see him play for England i'd actually howl if he chose to play for Ireland instead.
