Knowing England this'll probably throw him down the pecking order further. Wouldn't be shocked if he became yet another flair England player that we pissed away.

You can see it. It's a travesty to be honest that Maddison's not had a kick for England yet while you get people like Rashford and Barkley who've done nothing in years still heavily feature. Mount is not a bad player but he's not as deserving either.

Problem with this story is I feel like it'll just be another excuse to not include him.

Mount is a great player and the type of player we should be integrating into the team. But Maddison is a step up from Mount and should be integrated in the team, yet we find ourselves with him having fewer opportunities than mount.

Rashford needs a rest from football, he should've been left out for this international. Barkley isn't terrible but we use him too much

Fuming at this.

Trippier isn't playing badly for Atletico, but TAA IS playing brilliantly for Liverpool, Southgate's own fault here.

Keane - Playing poorly for both club and county, with Gomez and Tomori playing well for club are ignored on the bench

Maguire - United are shit lately but Maguire is usually decent in an organised team.

Rose - Spurs are in freefall so he decides to start him. Chilwell isn't in brilliant form, but is doing damn more than Rose.

Henderson and Rice both doing well for club but Jesus Christ they can't be played together as they're way too defensive.

Mount- Playing well for club but expected to be the spark in a defensively set up England team.

Front 3 are all on fire, minus Kane but Southgate would never drop him. Tammy could've been utilised here.

Our bench was made up of keepers and defenders, as given 2 midfielders withdrew from the squad, Southgate deemed it wise to not bring any replacements in.

This loss was his fault, he's using players severely out of form and asking others to do way too much. He set the team up to create nothing and the Czech' s saw through that within minutes.

Edit: Forgot to mention Pickford. Didnt see the point given Southgate looks never to drop him. And you can tell, he's getting sloppy in certain mistakes which competition would probably remove from his game.

England's problem for years has been creativity in the midfield and the last match just proved it. Maddison has the highest chances created by any Englishman by far and in Europe! You should build an attack around his strengths. Kane, Sterling would love to have that kind of stat behind them. Just don't get it. Who you you prefer; headless chicken Henderson or creative Maddison. I know who I would choose.

Maddison isn't going to be playing in either game, he's withdrawn from the squad. It doesn't matter what he's doing to the sun or England, only Leicester for whom he's hopefully playing next week.

Can't believe some think that Southgate is actually decent. He's poor and has always been poor. Problem is that England NT can't get a decent coach anyway.

Maddison in a casino did better than half the team did against Czech.

Jesus Christ, yes scum of a paper,  but, generally, if your Not well you aren’t off down the casino on a Friday night are you.

And yes he’s allowed to take his mind off football but let’s not make out he hasn’t stuck to fingers up to Southgate here. There is probably nothing wrong with him.

And if you want to really stand up for him, and the sun have some hard evidence,  let’s back him in doing what he’s doing. Southgates doing a great job but it was criminal Maddison didn’t get a kick last international break and he’s clearly not to keen on giving him the minutes everyone else thinks he deserves.  If I were him I’d much prefer the casino to playing second fiddle to Mason Mount and giving up his entire weekend to watch our disastrous midfield for 80 minutes before thrown on as a token gesture.

He’s made his point. Hopefully Southgate listens, next time he gets he call up he gets the minutes he deserves.

U wot mate?

Southgate paired with cronies at the FA are the biggest waste of time, they are making me not care about the national team.

I personally would like no Leicester player involved in that farce of a setup, it's a joke

Maddison in a casino probably still lost fewers times than our defence lost possession.

Southgate isn't the best coach, I agree, but he did manage to make the country reconnect with the national team for the first time in a while. But his set ups are appauling at times, genuinely in scratching my head as to how he thinks this will work .

According to the sun "article" he was actually sent home by England. Probably to stop it spreading. So it's a bit of a non story really.

But S*n readers wouldn't realise he's sent home to recover and stop the rest of the squad/coaching set up getting it. They've made the 'article' to encourage people to get on his backs.

Surprising that the S*n would twist a story to get the country on the backs of a young pro...

Scousers are much more likely to get on an old pro...

Not being fit for work when your job is international, elite level, professional sport is not the same as not being fit for work to go into an office.  Madders is probably 95% fit and able to function perfectly well as a human.  It doesn't mean he has to be bed-ridden for the duration of the international break.

I think the you've summed that all up rather well. I am a big fan of Chilwell but let's be honest, in presented form he's lucky to be playing for us ahead of Fuchs let alone England. Whether Rose is deserved of a place is also debateable. Keane is so poor in a poor Everton defence it beggars belief. Arguably we're better with three at the back but 2 defensive midfielders and his choice of them anyway was poor. No good in having good forwards without creation to get the ball to them. From a great start in trying to play youth, Southgate is starting to show some very worrying traits as pointed out. A chimp should be able to manage a team to get us out of these weak qualifiers but feel that yet again, we'll have a chump leading us when we get there.

True. But there are plenty of thickos out there that won't understand this. So how about just staying in for a couple of nights and watching a box-set or two and not giving them the chance to ****stir?

The Sun running a story about Maddison spotted in a casino Friday night during the game...

He wasn't exactly hiding tbf, he was smack bang in the middle of Grosvenor playing poker with the public.

Not really sure why that means he couldn't be ill. Could be anything wrong with him.

:dunno:

A World Cup and nations league semi final says other wise.

if he’d of done slightly  better he’d be on the queens honours list.

I mean if you cared before Southgate and don’t care now, that’s just plain odd.

Not the best look to be pictured in a casino having been sent home ill but I don't think it will harm his status with England that much- not convinced Southgate is particularly keen. He might get some minutes but won't be an integral part of the team.

From the article, right at the very end:

Last night his agent said: “He was confined to his room with a virus on Wednesday and Thursday. He felt slightly better on Thursday but couldn’t be risked to travel with the team.”

The Sun know what they're doing. They've always incited outrage over minor things. Maddison was only spotted there between 8 and 9pm. Hardly a Gazza-esque bender straight out of the 90s.

Has nobody else ever been out when they're recovering from illness but not yet feeling 100%?

It's a non-story from that rag.
