England squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria - Chilwell and Maddison

Southgate has a strange loyalty / fondness for certain players like Rose, Rashford and Keane and it will cost us in the tournament finals next year. He said he’d only pick players that were playing well for their clubs but the aforementioned players have been dreadful for months. But there’s still time to sort things out. A front 3 of Kane, Sterling and Sancho is as good as anyone else and maybe if we played similarly to Liverpool we could work around our biggest weaknesses that is our midfield but relying on that front 3 and our fullbacks. 

 

I’d also get Maddison in ASAP and I’m not just saying that as a Leicester fan. He’s by far and away the most creative and possibly even most technical player and those are essential to winning at the elite level. 

 

Problem is I think Southgate will stick to his favourites. 

Feels to me like you could say this about every manager we had in the 40-odd years I've been watching. 

 

The 'lag' between the point where it becomes obvious a player isn't performing and them getting dropped has been an infuriating constant. 

 

Tbf to Southgate he has been one of the most progressive I can remember in terms of blooding young players. Then again, not playing Maddison also smacks of past managers and their poor handling of skilful players who might feel inclined to, shall we say, roll up the sleeves of their England blazer on the team photo.

Maddison dodged a bullet there, and Rose has just confirmed Chilly's place as England left back for the next several years.

Could Southgate have picked a more out of form bunch of players on one pitch last night? Saying he is at a match every week, seems a closed shop again in terms of form v big club scenario. To think Rashford and Barkley was our go to men from the bench.......

Southgate has not charisma - he got the job cox the fa wanted to avoid any embarrassment - they dont care  about results just want to get knighted.   

 

If results are poor hen managers are sacked - to align things at the  FA then martin glen should be let go if southgate stuffs up - that's is his gamble.

European team qualifying for the world cup or the European cup is out of date. Most of the matches are boring and it's always the same teams bar a couple who qualify. I suggest that any European team making the knockout stages should automatically qualify for the next competition and the rest battle it out for the remaining places. not only are England's qualifying matches boring but they interfere with the prem continuity. Ditch them.

England might have a problem at left back but southgate doesnt, thats why he picks danny rose. He doesnt consider his form an issue.

Jesus Christ, yes scum of a paper,  but, generally, if your Not well you aren’t off down the casino on a Friday night are you.

 

And yes he’s allowed to take his mind off football but let’s not make out he hasn’t stuck to fingers up to Southgate here. There is probably nothing wrong with him.

 

And if you want to really stand up for him, and the sun have some hard evidence,  let’s back him in doing what he’s doing. Southgates doing a great job but it was criminal Maddison didn’t get a kick last international break and he’s clearly not to keen on giving him the minutes everyone else thinks he deserves.  If I were him I’d much prefer the casino to playing second fiddle to Mason Mount and giving up his entire weekend to watch our disastrous midfield for 80 minutes before thrown on as a token gesture.

 

He’s made his point. Hopefully Southgate listens, next time he gets he call up he gets the minutes he deserves.

Spot ****ing on. The Sun hates the people who create football, and the people who support it. I cannot believe anyone still buys this filth (and that's nothing to do with Liverpool - I don't like Liverpool, they shouldn't have the rights to disliking the Sun). And I'm sure Vardy has had a word in his ear about what a "big" club fanboy Southgate is. Worst England manager ever (and I'm including Peter Taylor in that).

Knowing England this'll probably throw him down the pecking order further. Wouldn't be shocked if he became yet another flair England player that we pissed away.
