foxymat Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 Er-indoors wants to know what I want for Xmas, love a good read, any suggestions out there? Came across this, anyone read it? https://www.itsroundanditswhite.co.uk/articles/book-review-cant-buy-that-feeling-inside-leicester-city
Dahnsouff Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 Depends what you like, but this is excellent https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inverting-Pyramid-History-Football-Tactics/dp/1474609295/ref=sr_1_1?crid=12QJFBP57F9ZU&keywords=inverting+the+pyramid+the+history+of+football+tactics&qid=1576514240&sprefix=Inverting%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-1 I will never claim to be a @StriderHiryu (in house tactics Czar) mind...
Muzzy_Larsson Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 Paul McGrath's book is an excellent read, quite harrowing at times but excellent nonetheless. Once upon a time in Naples is also very good, about Maradona's time in Napoli. I've also got a now unwanted copy of 'Brendan Rodgers - The Road to Paradise' if anyone wants it

Fox in the North Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 It’s not letting me upload it but the third one is called The Mixer The Story of Premier League Tactics, from Route One to False Nines by Michael Cox. Has a particularly good chapter on a certain team that won the league with 4-4-2

That is a very good book but quite verbose. Can be a tough read, but the content is great.

If you have any interest in el classico. Theres a book called dance like the world is watching or something that's about football mascots, told is a great little toilet book so to speak, one you can read a chapter and put down and come back to next time you need a no.2

One might say the prose used to illustrate the juxtaposition bourne from the necessity to produce immediate results versus the desire to bequeath a lasting legacy of footballing tactics is overly loquacious.

Suzie the Fox Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 If not already posted the Vardy book is a good easy read.
cstrafe Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 Highly, highly recommend both of Michael Cox's books: The Mixer and Zonal Marking The Mixer is the history of the PL from a tactical perspective and how and why its evolved. Just started Zonal Marking but it's also about tactics, except globally and how different cultures have influenced the game over the years. LOVE COX!
Nalis Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 Echo those who have said The Mixer, great read. Secret footballer's guide to the modern game is good too though its been out for a good few years now.
Messi Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 Blokes abit of an arse but Paul Mersons autobiography is probably the best football book I’ve read. Ray Parlour, Craig Bellamy and Tony Adams are good, honest reads aswell.

The Blur Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 You will win nothing with kids- Jim White. It is a good heartwarming read about a father coaching his son's football team. A hilarious anecdote about a twattish Spurs fan is a bonus as well!
Zear0 Posted 16 December 2019 Posted 16 December 2019 Bit left field but https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2403975.Engineering_Archie is a superb read.
dmayne7 Posted 17 December 2019 Posted 17 December 2019 Think it's called 'The nowhere men' but an interesting read about scouting. Probably 5 years old now but pretty funny to see the names that people went for (or missed!)
