So the reason he's no longer a referee for the FA is because of a video he sent his friend. A video of a man walking with an impairment used in a joke about a parent's sports day race after being slandered as 'too fat' in the national press.

He gives context and explains the situation in a clear and calm way. After reading it, I feel for him, they took an incredibly strong stance, probably too strong. In my opinion he received a punishment too strong for the crime.

A very good read. Very harsh judgement and one would think he would have grounds for action.

But nowhere near as interesting as believing he was a dog botherer.

Imagine having a mate do that to you.

Can you inagine what young footballers joke about in their WhatsApp groups with friends.

If what he says is true  then i think the reaction was over the top. I will be the first to admit I've said/done stupid things in my life. I never went through this though.

Honesty is always the best thing when trying to move on. All the best, most people deserve another chance.

On the other hand, the fact thst he videod a disabled man and sent it to his mate is poor judgement. Its one thing to make a run of the mill unPC joke to your pals, its another to record a disabled person and mock him.

Incredibly poor judgement. But, for that particular offense shared just with a friend, he probably should've been given the opportunity to attend courses, be demoted a league and take time out. They've knee jerked this tbh

Agree with this. Work with disabled youth and others and better understand how these unfortunate incidents impact them etc.

He was already volunteering and helping with disabled groups prior to his incident, due to family having disabilities. Made it seem more out of character and just a terrible joke, hence why I think this was rash. Making him take a sabbatical or demote a division along with education would've been far smarter

That's the first thing I thought too.

Okay what he did was wrong. Who hasn't done something wrong in a private chat. But you literally cant trust anyone that you send anything to. Even people you think have your back probably would enjoy your demise. Scary world.

Don't condone anything said in the article and thought he was up there was Jonathan Moss as the biggest gimps we got as refs but its one of them where we all think back to what we say in private and know it really is harsh as ****.

Really harsh. Wouldn’t like to think of anybody losing their job over that. Especially given the context of his own personal/family situations.

He was an absolutely atrocious referee though.

Read this earlier on his Twitter. Seems extremely harsh but I have to ask why the cover up until now? Why wasn’t it all made public knowledge at the time of his sacking. He was a poor referee in the PL IMO but he’s had his career taken away which he worked hard for.

bollocks is he 32 though

I hadn't seen this thread, and I've just this minute read the Max Rushden article in The Guardian.  Reading it on my phone in bed.

I had never previously heard of those rumours that Mr Madley done anything unusual, so when I got to the bit of the Guardian article which went:

"At that point my world fell apart,” Madley says. What followed were a series of spurious rumours on social media and in the press – including one suggesting he had been filmed having sex with a dog. He ended up being given police protection following threats from people purporting to be animal rights activists. "

I'm afraid I guffawed out loud and woke the missus up.

lol

I mean, it's a shame about the cancel culture and all that.

And that former mate who sent in the memory stick to his bosses is probably an arsehole.

And you kind of feel a bit sorry for him, even if he was a pretty awful ref.

But to be accused of THAT.

A smooch with a pooch

A snog with a dog

A canoodle with a poodle

Fellatio with an Alsatio   (ok, that last one is reaching)

BWAHAHAHAHAHARRRRRGH.  lollollol

I can't even...

The next time I'm having a bad day at work, I'll just think of the police protection officers, round Bobby Madley's gaff, trying not to accidentally say stuff about dogs...

In all seriousness it's a disgrace. Really is worrying - he's been absolutely shafted here. I feel for the bloke. Was never a huge fan of him as a referee but it's not really relevant. He shouldn't be out of a job in my eyes.
