urban.spaceman Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Leicester City demand official response over handball controversy in Carabao Cup semi-final defeat Marvelous Nakamba appeared to handle James Maddison’s shot, but no penalty was awarded onfield or by the video assistant referee By John Percy 30 January 2020 • 10:30pm Despite the smiles, James Maddison was unhappy with Mike Dean Credit: Getty Images Leicester City are demanding a response from the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd over the handball controversy in their Carabao Cup defeat. Manager Brendan Rodgers remains frustrated over the “clearest handball” in the agonising 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa in Tuesday night’s semi-final second leg, and is seeking an explanation from referees’ chief Mike Riley. Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba appeared to handle James Maddison's shot in the first-half, but referee Mike Dean did not award a penalty and was not overruled following a review by Lee Mason, the video assistant referee. Leicester are also concerned that the wrong incident was reviewed by VAR: after the ball had struck Nakamba, Maddison took another shot which seemed to hit Villa defender Ezri Konsa in the ribs, and television replays suggested that was the moment seen at Stockley Park. It is understood that Leicester included their complaint in Dean’s report, with Maddison blasting Mason in a post on his Twitter account on Wednesday. Advertisement He wrote: “Not making any excuses, but how a Premier League referee watching this from multiple angles several times comes to the conclusion that this isn’t a penalty baffles me.” Leicester’s exasperation has been compounded by the fact that Mason will be the referee for their match against Chelsea on Saturday. Rodgers said: “It was probably, arguably the clearest handball you’ll see, I can’t see why it wouldn’t have been a penalty. We’ll definitely ask the question as it’s good to have the clarity so everyone is clear – if that wasn’t a handball then it’s nice to know why. “If the referee didn’t quite see it in the game, that’s why the VAR is there, so it would be good to get that clarity.”
TheLittleBigMan Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Surely they have looked at the wrong replay reading that? That's a proper clanger that is!
TheLittleBigMan Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Gimmie my fixture back! I wanna replay.
HybridFox Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Imagine the outrage if that happened against Liverpool or Man City. Hardly any debate when it's Leicester, it's only us making the noise
Tom12345 Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Should have been a penalty, but a replay will not happen and is not realistic.
urban.spaceman Posted 31 January 2020 Author Posted 31 January 2020 Imagine if we got a replay though and Villa got punished for the pitch invasion so it had to be behind doors. I'd piss myself.
Gamble92 Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 I do genuinely think they looked at the replay of the second handball and are covering their tracks.

I'd piss myself. I did a pitch invasion once, got to the middle and realised no-one else had the same idea. Very embarrassing day at the office.
Tuna Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 I'd settle for Mike Riley's resignation. The whole thing has been a poorly executed shambles all season.
HybridFox Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Won't make f*** all of a difference now. But I am still intrigued to hear what excuse the incompetents can cook up.
Lesta2014 Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 I’m going to be fuming if they come out and say they looked at the wrong bit!
Dan Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Won't make a difference to the game but about tme clubs started demanding answers about some of these disgraceful decisions. Absolutely inexcusable with VAR.
K1FOX Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Definitely looked at the wrong one. Crazy media don’t care about it. If it was Liverpool in a semi final wow
Guest SO1 Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Nothing will happen. An apology at most. But well played Brendan this is going to give Lee Mason and the League something to think about until Saturday. Subliminal suggestions.

WigstonWanderer Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 They’re a bunch of arrogant bastards. They’ll probably just put out a statement saying they don’t comment on specific incidents.
TheLittleBigMan Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 The one thing VAR was supposed to eradicate and yet here we are debating it. I expected teething problems with the tech but what I didn't expect was it being used by a bunch of tools who can't work out what footage to look at. Be interesting to see what happens with it next year but I can't help thinking the tech is sound but we lack the calibre of officials to use.
cruzFOX Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Maybe we need another independent body with multiple cameras showing multiple angles watching the VAR watchers. Supposed to be several people looking at these footages. did they all go on a toilet break for a no.2 when that incident happened? Maybe Arthur the 70 year old janitor covered for them. These bad decisions have gone from rediculous to plain embarrassing now!
fox_favourite Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Putting in an official complaint is good. Will it change the result...no. Will it force a replay... definitely not and shouldn't as Villa took their chances and we didn't. But it will highlight the frustration with VAR and we would all like to know why it wasn't given. Will we get an answer...no. The all mighty premier League won't want to as it will highlight failure in the technology and their referees on and off the pitch. For me, the standard of refereeing is falling it feels, season after season. This incident just highlights the problems. What's more worrying is the fact that Mike Dean was close by, and by some angles actually looking at the incident! That's the most worrying thing!!!
NaijaFox Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 Won’t make a difference to the outcome of this tie, but GREAT nonetheless to register a complaint. Well played City.

Dahnsouff Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 What are we expecting? An apology?!?!? Agree that it is right to ask the question though, too little of that occurs. If using VAR is a hard job, you have got VAR wrong.
st albans fox Posted 31 January 2020 Posted 31 January 2020 they already gave their explanation at half time on sky this seems to have been dug up by stringer at the presser yesterday and Percy sees a chance to hang VAR ....... apparently the shot was very hard so it went very quickly and the distance not very far ...... lost for words but that was the explanation given. They definitely reviewed it - dean delayed the corner after the Konsa block was viewed to show that clearly hit his ribs ..... it’s simply an example of why var doesn’t work unless the ref nearly always gives the decision of a pen and var is used to overturn clear injustices. So you never overturn a mane pen cos there was some contact ...... it’s jut a flipping mess isn’t it
