When was the league last suspended? WW2?
What happened with Promotion / Relegation then?

The 1939–1940 season was the 65th season of competitive football in England. In September 1939, shortly after World War II was declared, most football competitions were abandoned as the country's attention turned to the war effort.[1] Regional league competitions were set up instead; appearances in these tournaments do not count in players' official records. A few leagues, such as the Northern League, did manage to complete a season, but more than half of the teams were unable to fulfil all their fixtures and resigned. Many footballers signed up to fight in the war[1] and as a result many teams were depleted, and fielded guest players instead – Crystal Palace fielded 186 different players during the seven wartime seasons.[2] The FA Cup was resumed for the 1945-46 season and The Football League for the 1946-47 season.

looks like they just started again - with no promotion or relegation... but it was only sept when they suspended it... in those days they would have only play one or two matches by then

Makes no sense, surely you’d have them tested as soon as to save having to pointlessly isolate, pretty sure we’ve donated enough to local hospitals to wangle a few expedited tests

Especially if only one is proved positive the whole squad and staff will be isolated. Watford won't want us down at their place.

If somebody doesn't make a big decision soon it is just going to get out of hand. Matches will keep being postponed and cause problems for everybody. They really need to stop the season now, then work out if the matches can be played later. If not, some difficult decisions will need to be made on titles/promotion/relegation/cups - but it has got to the stage where health has got to come before sport.

There’s effectively no precedent and nothing in the clubs contracts to say what happens. If you have no promotion relegation, Leeds, West Brom and others will all sue for the £130m they’re missing out on, if you relegate teams who will all say they could have survived, they will all sue for the damages of relegation. The only way is to delay and fit as many games in once the virus has peaked (suspending EURO 2020, which has enough money tied up in it as well), or finish the fixtures behind closed doors, potentially killing 5-10 teams in League 1/2 who rely on gate receipts to stay in business.

No easy solution.

The cold hasn’t gone away and been replaced by COVID-19….

you’d suspect that it’s a cold, but, why take any risk?

Exactly any sign of a cough people are being isolated and for good reason... good chance that is all these three players have. Hopefully

Stringer’s comments on BBC website:

On the Leicester players self-isolating because of Coronavirus...

It’s my understanding that the players are first team players and haven’t reached a threshold where they require testing. Good diligent approach from the club. They will asses them again later in the week.

Sounds like they went through 111! No testing unless you've been away to high risk areas or been in contact with a known case.

I like the idea of using expected goals to work though all remaining league fixtures and play offs to sort it out.... by computer.

Don't know about promotion relegation but the league was decided on goal average, which would now make man city champions.

Liverpool  2.28 goals per game

Man City 2.43 goals per game
